Not me considering how much more money ALS Association has raised compared to last year. Its a good cause. Can't hate on it.

I know its for a good cause, I guess I just dont understand how ALS makes money off of this. I must be out of touch when it comes to how ALS is getting money from people posting videos on Facebook and stuff.



I would like to see people simply write a check for $100 for ALS Research, then challenge some people to do the same.

it IS entertaining, and some people give money just for being entertained. it really is good fun, and those celebs involved seem happy to score some pr points, drop a few bucks, and im willing to bet are often genuinely happy to help something that is good and fun.

in short, it makes money because its good and fun. Hell, I might drop $5 because I just watched the Shat hit himself with a bucket of ice water. good times.

It raises awareness thus increasing donations. It works, it's ALL good.

And Spencer actually said in the video that he's also donating money. I think it's in the cards that donations to the cause is the goal, not just to amuse people with viral videos, there's also a strong hint to the viewers to take part in either contributing with donations or awareness.

You're right, ideally people would donate without it, but unfortunately it is required that there is some kind of entertainment value to get people interested in donating, so a gimmick like this is created.

I mean it probably couldn't be any other way, just think of how many charities there are out there, all worthy of a donation from you so they need to stand out.

Good for Phil, he had a nice cold icy bucket it looked like.

I was watching some preseason football Saturday night and my local Vikings broadcaster did it and he had a couple people poor tiny little cups of water on him. I was like WTF? Maybe they couldn't poor a huge bucket in the broadcasting booth or something but if so move outside and do it.

Guy always seemed like a dumbass to me and full of himself. He was talking about it like he was all cool that someone nominated him and tried to make it out as a big thing, did a commercial break suspense even and then these guys drop little cups on him.
