Phil Spencer On Gears of War's Future.

MS and Epic obviously have a partnership over it and he will be aware of what Epic are thinking with regards to the IP. He got asked a question why wouldn't he comment on it as the the guy who decides if they publish it or not?

I would imagine his thoughts are very similar to what Epic are thinking. The story for 1-3 has run its course, where do they take it now?

Cosigned everything but the art direction. I like the variety the series gains with later titles. Made the game go from post-apocalyptic to the destroyed beauty tone.

It's not as good as Gears 1-3, but it's worth a playthrough if you can find a cheap copy.<

Some of the declassified missions were really fun.

Gears 3 is good. Gears 2? Cocaine is a helluva drug.

I just want Gears 1, that's smooth and works consistently. Intimate, up close and tight. Being bigger did not make Gears better or more badass. All that did was make it apparent that the small scale combat, environments and story suited the overall theme of darkness and destroyed beauty, much better.

Seriously, Gears 2 MP, for lack of better words, was straight up fucking terrible in almost every way imaginable. I'm not kidding or exaggerating one bit.

its the best of the series. i dont know how many days of playtime i put in that game.
best mp game i ever played after halo 3 and mw1/2
 
Make it online only multiplayer like Titanfall and introduce new story missions ala Titanfall during gameplay matches as well. You dont need returning characters. Just make everyone a grunt soldier in the locust wars playing out various battles during that era.
 
the first gears of war will always hold a special place in my memory. the 2nd i have almost completely erased from my memory. the third was good for the moment it came out. and judgment i never acknowledged.

KOTOR3 is probably not an option with EA owning Bioware.

Banjothreeie though... It's one of the games that would make me instantly forgive Microsoft's fuckups with Xbox One.

I believe Disney holds the rights to KOTOR now so theoretically they could license out the rights to Microsoft to publish/develop for the right price...
 
I loved the first two, thought the third was okay, and didn't really care for Judgement. I'm fine with this series taking a breather, so long as MS fills the void with another game.

Just please no more prequels. PCF is a great dev but that game's multiplayer was handled terribly. I'd love to see an HD collection (1080p60) on X1, hell, I'd buy Gears 1-2 and 3-J separately if they wanted to do it that way. Those games would all look brilliant in 1080p60.

For the record, I like Cliff. He's actually a really nice guy. I have a lot of respect for him. However, he's part of the reason why they added so much dumb shit to the game. Some higher ups didn't intend Gears to he the close range game it became. Epic has made several attempts to change the formula and basically dumb it down, lower the skill gap and just make it as much like every other shooter as possible. And they wonder why they have seen so much backlash. They wonder why people hated Gears 2 and Judgement so fucking much.

Epic made something really neat with the first game. The end result didn't live up to their planned vision, if there even was one. But we, the fans, loved it. Why Epic has insisted on taking away Gear's identity is beyond me. Why they wanted to eliminate almost every feature and element that made it popular to begin with, is utterly mind boggling. I don't get it.


It's not like Halo and CoD fans are dying for another carbon copy of their games. There is no point in catering to them, Epic. You'll never get them.

It was a different kind of game. Not bad but it didn't have a particularly interesting story or enemy arenas.

PH's statement kinda reads like PR equivalent of saying that Gears is no more. Strange saying it has no arc when it was an arc like series of 3 games. Even if the 'ending' of 3 was total weaksauce imo.
 
Gears is not coming back unless Fortnite or the other IP Epic is working on doesn't do well. Console exclusives are out the window for Epic, but anything could change with the right circumstances.

I'd rather have a new franchise that could hit in the same way the first Gears did, rather than more Gears itself. Hopefully, that's what Black Tusk is working on.

Honestly? The Gears franchise is in a sweet spot to end quietly and successfully. Don't ruin a great trilogy with more Pendulum Wars bs or, even worse, a continuation of the canon Storyline.

If they WERE to do another Gears game: it should be about The Stranded.

i think he means more gritty like the last of us or the original gears' mad world advert, like kinda bleak. not doubling down on more grunting space marines.
