Xbox one had an amazing first year and it totally destroyed PS4 in 2014

launching with Forza 5( good) Dear rising 3( good) and Ryse( shit)

PS4 launched with Knack( ULTRA shit) and Killzone ( shit)

in 2014 xbox one got Titanfall( amazing and would have been a masterpiece if it had more content) Sunset Overdrive( amazing) Halo collection( masterpiece of a collection despite the matchmaking problems) and Forza Horizon 2( masterpiece)

while PS4 had Infamous( shit) and Drive club( broken shit)

in 2015 was better for PS4 because of Bloodborne alone, ps4 got Until Dawn( okay) Bloodborne( masterpiece)

while Xbox one got Halo 5( amazing) and Forza 6( good) and Ori( masterpiece)

2016 was a tie between them, ps4 had Uncharted 4( good) Ratchet and clank( amazing) SF5( good but broken) Salt and Sanctuary( amazing) and The last Guardian( ULTRA MEGA shit)

while Xbox one had Quantum break ( shit) Gears 4( good) and Forza Horizon 3( masterpiece)

but in 2017 everything changed and ps4 is completely crushing Xbox one and we're only in the second month of the year

This isn't even the topic of discussion, and please don't start list warz

This gen has made me lose interest in xbox, and I've been a fan since day one.

Or people are looking for games that the company has historically failed to generate a decent amount of sales on, and dislike the company's trend towards multiplayer service-oriented games.

I mean, I'm fine with it, but it's obvious according to this thread and the many like it, that many others aren't.
Except that performance for those games is down compared to last gen, despite Xbox One selling better than 360. 3rd parties own the lion's share of the multi-player, games as service pie, and the audience on both consoles seems to prefer the third party offerings to Xbox's exclusives. When Ubisoft, EA, and Activision are all beating you at your own game, maybe it's time to try a different approach?

I wish Phil would learn and block the likes of Crapgamer, Tim dog and pretty much all of the other crazy asses with that scorpio symbol. They hurt more than help the brand.

They don't represent the majority of us xbox owners and are downright embarrassing in how they conduct themselves. It's like surrounding yourself with a bunch of yes men except they're also borderline racist nuts.

He also doesn't wanna piss them off to where they stop buying their stuff. It's a double edged sword.

He shouldn't have said anything in terms of this. He's obviously not going to say "it's not the best" but saying yes would be a bit silly considering the 360 gen was better for the brand.

You gotta leave that stuff to guys like Aaron Greenberg and Major Nelson.

If you're the head of the company I'm sure your most loyal fans can believe you're too busy to respond to every single tweet.

You don't see Reggie and Shawn responding to these things.

I love witnessing a meltdown live

I have an Xbox one, it see's no play. I agree with most of the sentiment, its the lack of compelling games. Only game seeing play time was Diablo 3, due to what I feel is an improved interface over M/KB on PC.

Now, I did move back to PC gaming this gen, but I do not have any MS games.

Burned out of Gears games, I like the RPG elements of the Division better anyways to get my cover and fire fix.

FH3, since they gimped wheel support that all other serious PC racing games have, no dice, I am not buying a different wheel.

I am interested in Halo Wars 2, but that $60, I cant justify that if my son cant play it with me also for that price, guess I am spoiled by PC game pricing, $60 gets me close to 2 copies of newer PC games from other developers/publishers.

If they are trying to capture the PC gamer, they are doing a poor job of it. They have so much they can leverage to add value to a person who owns an Xbox and a PC, but they fumbled the delivery with limits on PC anywhere use, UWP limitations, poor and unclear VR story, etc..

For example, if Halo Wars 2 had true family sharing on Xbox like all their other titles AND full Play Anywhere where Xbox and PC could play together, it would be a no brainier to drop $60 for it. Instead they tie it to an xbox account so both Xb and PC cant be played at the same time, and no PC vs XB. Do they really think they are going to make an extra $60 sale in a single household? No they will just loose a potential $60 sale instead.

That said I pretty much feel the same way about PS4, only 1 game I am really interested in, surely not enough to pay the cost of entry (do not own a PS4), so maybe my view is a bit PC bias.

Or you try and find areas that aren't exactly exploited but still within your strengths? For example, an RTS game. Or something in the vein of Splatoon. Or anything that isn't a shooter, but still makes full use of the core Xbox Live featureset in both a new and robust way.

Singleplayer games are not necessarily the answer. There's still a lot to be done in multiplayer.

Spencer taking a page from Trump I see.

But seriously, I feel bad for him. He inherited a mess. IMO he did not make the right decisions to fix it, but he still inherited a mess.

He also doesn't wanna piss them off to where they stop buying their stuff. It's a double edged sword.

Their presence and influence is overstated, even more so when Phil and the other guys at Xbox continually respond to them, invite them to shows, etc. The amount of people who follow them or are just like them is miniscule.

Most of us who own Xbox have real concerns, but also real praise for the system. Not like these dolts that are quite frankly just nuts.

I love you Phil but it's bad to lie to people like that.

I mean, considering that he has to fix Donny boys mess I gotta give him props for trying to slowly fixing up everything

In my opinion, the Xbox One is a complete flop. Apart from a few outstanding exclusives, and the excellent backwards compatibility initiative, it offers nothing that I can't already find on PC or PS4 - and done better on said platforms.

The hardware was a disaster from initial concept to launch. Underpowered from day one, I feel that MS is over-reliant on a key demographic that eats up the big Xbox franchises. Surely this pool of players is shrinking, both due to a lack of exclusives and great competition (from Sony especially).

I myself bought the Xbox One in good faith, having been more than satisfied with the 360. I'm struggling to understand how they sell so many consoles, when they don't appear to be putting much effort into pushing original software for the thing! Oh goody, Halo Wars 2. And that's IT for months.

I hope they can turn things around with Scorpio, otherwise I have not seen such a one-sided console war for generations.

It's not that bad. You are lucky you weren't there for the PS2 generation. MS just needs to do a bit more and they're right there.

I'm someone who used to be the kind of person who would want to own all the consoles. This time? Aw hell naw. A decent PC and a PS4 are really all you need to get the most out of this generation. Take your pick of the 3DS or Switch if you want Nintendo stuff. I'm sort of done with Nintendo at this point though tbh.

Speaking of Xbox 360. How many revisions of that damn console did they produce? Jasper, Xenon, and like 4 others or something ridiculous like that right?

Definitely not my favorite Xbox gen unless we're counting games I purcahsed and played on my 360 that also work on Xbox 1 as a part of this generation.

The first 4 years of Xbox 360 was crazy with exclusives and great games. This generation has kind of sucked. Xbox One base console was shit, poor OS. Hoping for big things with Scorpio.

It's not that bad. You are lucky you weren't there for the PS2 generation. MS just needs to do a bit more and they're right there.

PS2 gen wasn't that lopsided in terms of games, which is what we the fans care about. GameCube arguably had a better lineup than PS2, and even though XBox was comparatively weak it still had some unique titles.

Or you try and find areas that aren't exactly exploited but still within your strengths? For example, an RTS game. Or something in the vein of Splatoon. Or anything that isn't a shooter, but still makes full use of the core Xbox Live featureset in both a new and robust way.

True, and to Xbox's credit they have done a good job of this with a few genres. They have the only big console RTS like you said, and they are at the forefront of the racing genre with the Forza brand, they have the best racing games on the market and Sony has basically ceded that ground to them. The problem is that those genres are pretty niche, and they don't really expand their audience much because that's an audience they already had. The games they have in the big, popular genres are underperforming relative to their franchise and to genre competitors, and they aren't cultivating much in the way of new IP. Your 'game like Splatoon' example is moot because they aren't doing anything as creative or exciting as that. The one unique game in the multiplayer space they do have coming down the pipe is Sea of Thieves, but the level of excitement for that title is muted and I doubt it becomes a Splatoon level succcess.

I love DS and have 100% them all. I tried the demo for Nioh and didn't like it. But that doesn't mean anything. However, Japanese culture/style games are definitely a taste thing. And Kingdom Hearts is not a "Japanese style game"

???

Good for you liking Dark Souls and not liking Nioh, there are many many people who do though. If we're comparing giant AAA western games to just Japanese games then sure but my point was the variety of gameplay and style. Persona 5 to Nioh or Gravity Rush to Yakuza are very different. Saying that Japanese games not being on Xbox doesn't add any sort of value to Xbox customers is absolutely ridiculous. Why else would Phil take time out of his schedule to go to Japan to court Japanese devs? He sees the divide and I'm glad he's doing something in that regard.

While i would like to see more 1st party options and exclusives, I've definitely enjoyed the offerings this gen over the last 2 and have many more hours played in games than before. To each their own. It's all opinions.

Straight out of the playbook. Wow.

I personally think that right now is just the setup phase for scorpio and following through on Xbox anywhere pushing UWP games that run on PC/Scorpio/Xbox One? In theory, it could be the best gen for the division as there isn't any major hardware issues dragging down the division profits.

It's his job to put a positive spin on things, and technically it's their best generation in terms of sales so I can see why he'd want to use that data point, but he wasn't even being directly addressed, so I think in his shoes I would have ignored the comments.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. I felt PS2 murdered both xbox and gamecube combined in games.

This is a quick and dirty list excluding some minor titles gaf likely won't care about.

https://twitter.com/Tenkay23/status/834101763628212228

360 in the same time frame (1187 days) had more exclusives and a different variety of exclusives.

XB1 list is mostly Halo, Gears, Forza and remasters

I counted stuff that was exclusive for more than six months to the 360 and/or was console exclusive like Mass Effect and Bioshock.

the Trump comparisons are gross. There's a difference between being a figure head at a giant company and fucking President of the United States

Unit sales have been good but with the recent shift to having your xbox exclusives also come to PC kinda tells me that I might as well just not bother buying an X1 and get a gaming PC instead. That's why the idea of scorpio being a fairly powerful living room PC interests me.

I know people who only own an xbox one are happy with their device to the point of reactionary defense, but its Jason's opinion.

He feels XBox has ceased being competitive. Its not something that is an uncommon sentiment and its not a fanboy viewpoint to feel that way depending on what you prioritize in gaming.

What else would he say?

"Hey guys you know what? You're right, this has been total shit but we sure are trying!"

What he said is essentially the expected answer given what he was quoted from Jason.

Nothing. It wasn't something that requires a response. It just made him appear desperate.

holy crap at all the remasters.....remove those from the list and its even more staggering.

still awaiting my quantum break sequel though....I liked QB a lot

The Splatoon comment was more in the vein of design philosophies they should look to emulate and/or improve upon. And I believe the lack of concentrated hype surrounding Sea of Thieves is more due to the fact that Rare is constantly dripfeeding information rather than relying on a robust marketing campaign to hype it to hell and back. That, and they haven't shown much of it at all yet. Hopefully this all changes come E3, but we'll see.

Back to the meat of your argument, though, I agree that they need to do something to cultivate fresh ideas within their space, and that the performance of titles like Halo 5 and Gears 4 relative to the other entries in the series is subpar. However, this doesn't not necessarily mean that it will continue to be like this. Microsoft should focus on either utilizing old, reliable IPs such as Halo or Gears in new and interesting ways, whether or not they chase after new IPs at all, or create new IPs to facilitate new design ideas in this segment better than the old guard can.

Thank god some sanity, I like you.

LOL, you knew this is where the thread would end up. List war!!

Your blatant fanboyish and aggressive posts have gotten quite tedious.

Throwing 'microsoft fan' and 'nintendo fan' around as insults and labelling people with differing opinions as delusional is also quite annoying to read.

Cool it man, it's just video games.

My bad :(

Only point i was making is XB1 is way behind in the exclusives and software department compared to the same point in time of the 360's life.
