Phil Spencer will be on Giant Bomb's E3 Night Show

Last night's round of guest were great all around. 6 hours worth. Continues to be my favorite part of the E3 week.

Yeah especially with the Wolfenstein guy he was super laid back. Honestly i dont expect much from these Phil Spencer interviews despite some of the heat Jeff throws his way it still becomes way to interview style instead of just talking shit. But i understand why they have to do that.

I want him to ask about new IP and specifically if there is any in the works at studios we don't know about which they created or is it just Rare doing something on the side because I don't think you can use the crutch of known AAA partner studio totally working on something for us but we won't say which is code for we have fuck all in the works.

Hope Jeff roasts him.

Doubt he'll do that. Jeff is usually pretty respectful to all of his guests but I'm sure he's gonna bring up the fact the announced a bunch 3rd part exclusives that can be bought on pc at their conference or the fact that he doesn't even play his xbone because he can play in on pc.

they can ask about VR and true 4k but we already know the answers

1) They said they are not focusing on VR, or shall i say mixed reality, until its proven. Scorpio can clearly support it if OG PS4 can

2) True 4k depends on the developer. As we have seen on Assassins Creed Origins Xbone X is going to be on par with PS4 pro because the developer chose to do that. Games like Forza or Halo 6 will no doubt be monsters on the X

The question they need to ask, although they wont get a full answer to, is what kind of games are in development. Are there exclusives being worked on other than Gears, Halo and Forza that are AAA quality. I think the answer is yes but a hint towards something would be nice

Hopefully he dabs. Phil "Dab" Spencer

Well he immediately took it as a jab at the MCC but it was a question about games in general because that was the E3 after the holiday its seemed like half the AAA games where on fire.

Yeah, I don't think MS games are more or less prone to being buggy than the rest of the industry.

lots of mixed messaging going around on VR support and the nature of "true 4k". that's all i can think of though

I don't remember MS ever coming out and saying VR was coming to their ecosystem (I could have forgotten, tbh).

Exclusives? Price-point? Certainly nothing on the scale of MCC/launching games broken. I'd like to hear about cross-play and how difficult it was to implement between Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Price point seems like a strange one. For what you are getting with the 1X the price is not that much of a sting.

On cross-play, do you mean specifically with Minecraft? I don't know how much Spencer works with the Mojang team--would he be able to speak for them on this one?

So why haven't you invested in creating new internal studios?

Fair enough. I've never owned an Xbox of any gen so I have no clue what their studios are or what they make.

Boy I hope Jeff brings up the heat, for example, why should anyone even buy an XB X when 95% of the library is available on PC ?

LOL, they joked about this last year, you think you found his loophole? MS gets money either way, console gamers that want the best gaming experience, the Xbox X is for them. They dont play on PC, consoles only. Its that simple.

Its not likely to come up as its been answered.

So why haven't you invested in creating new internal studios?
Because they don't see value in it and feel they can find those same games with external partnerships. That's not a hard question to answer at all. It's a matter of differing philosophies. No right answer

.

High fidelity VR was literally one of the 4 bullet points when they announced Project Scorpio.

Now the official line is "we will get back to you on that" which is fine. VR is in a spot right now. So is Xbox. Best to play it safe.

This will end well...on gaf. :)

Somebody get the thread ready...cuz you know there's gonna be like 15 threads made by one sentence Phil says.
I mean, how is this different than the other heads of the big companies? Jim Ryan is saying some ignorant shit out there and there are rightfully a shit ton of threads on it.

I think that was a huge part of their pitch at last year's E3 when they announced Fallout 4 VR for Scoprio.

Saw some tweets recently suggesting that some Xbox people are saying no to VR but others have been saying yes.

Here's a story where some Xbox marketing person said no VR: http://gametransfers.com/xbox-one-x-will-not-support-virtual-reality-says-marketing-chief/

Nobody even noticed it gone or probably there to begin with.

Looking forward to it, this is usually good. Jeff pulls no punches.

Would love to see a straight up: "Are you opening new first party studios to develop new 1P titles - yes/no?"

A dab'll do ya! (I don't know what a dab is, besides a fish you can catch in Animal Crossing...)

Looking forward to this. I like it because it seems like GiantBomb might be able to get people get more candid in their meetups. Hopefully Phildo gets comfy on the couch, starts swearing and puts his hand down his pants Al Bundy-style.

Starts at 9PM EST

I'm glad you guys aren't asking the questions. I hope Jeff is less softball then the stuff you guys are coming up with. Jeez!

Jeff already knows the answer to that and even said it during their MS conference stream (not everybody wants a gaming PC).

Also LOL, "heat".

"We will continue to develop with our current 1st party studios."

Only one question needs to be asked and its about first party lineup and studios.

Pretty obvious.

It won't happen but it would be amazing if Jeff brought up The Last Night. The amount of cringe as Phil tries to navigate that land mine would be too much, unless he just says "yeah, we're dropping that game".

Gotcha. I was way off then.

Nothing substantial is going to come out of this.
Top level Executives are like politicians, they will always give non answers to stuff that hasn't been announced or will affect them negatively.
I enjoy the Giant Bomb night shows for the discussion and stories about the industry, not for sticking it to the "man", which is not what GB does anyway.

I remember the "What's it gonna take to stop releasing games in a semi-broken state?" from Jeff last year.

The face Phil made...

Was a magic moment.

I don't expect anything nearly as interesting tonight. Though with his PR speaking this week, who knows? Could get some serious gafs.

hmm true, isnt the old Live dead? Thats actually a good question. And achievements, will there be any?

Its literally the old versions of the game. So no achievements.

I dont know about online but you can system link your Xbox One to your OG Xbox and do local play that way. (or to other XB1's)

How will original xbox backwards compatibility games access a network for online play seeing as how original xbox live no longer exists? Tunneling?

Makes sense. Thats probably why they were mentioning how they have OG games working in system link with: OG, xbox 360 and xbox one. Cause they know there wont be any 'online'.

Its pretty impressive if you ask me.
