Doesn't look like they're aiming for juxtaposition in these; they're supposed to blend in. Like the OP said, he was aiming for an otherworldly feeling altogether.

Oh, I know the intent is to blend, the juxtaposition is an unavoidable result of mixing the natural with the unnatural. The artistry comes from either how the two blend or how the two clash.

And the reason people find it creepy is because of the stereotype associated with extreme fantasy/sci-fi/anime fans getting lost in dreaming about being in these worlds, specifically the "geek dreaming about being with female character" stereotype.

There's no point arguing. Most of you have your mind made up about this poor guy. He shows off his extremely artistic hobby that takes a load of talent, and all you guys do is shit all over him and scare him off.

The amount of talent and skill these photos take is a lot more than I can say for most people's hobbies. He's not hurting anyone, and I personally appreciate the artistic element of many of them. I thought it was pretty neat.

The Appleseed figures are from Hot Toys, which you can order off of Sideshow, or Urban Samurai online shops. From the info that I've heard, they'll be getting more of them in about 2 or 3 months, which means NOW is the time to order them if you want them. They're close to $200 a pop though, so it's not easy money to let go of.

In terms of me selling them, no I don't normally sell them. They're more of a hobby. I just collect them. Sometimes when I get tired of a figure, then I sell it. Typically, a regular 1:8 scale PVC figure runs about 6800 yen, plus shipping on top of that.

I collect anime figures because I'm a fan of anime. I am also an artist that spends time painting and doing photoshop. I figure that rather than let these expensive pieces of PVC just sit there, I'd make a hobby out of it, since I have the ability to do so.

Anime figures collecting and photoshopping should really be no different than DC comics or McFarlane figures collecting and photoshopping if you think about it.

sure. Here's one. I've yet to photograph Ignis...

You also have to remember, most anime characters are over 18. They're portrayed seemingly younger because it's in Japanese culture. Have you seen real japanese girls in Japan that are over 18? Notice how childish they are? Even japanese porn, the girls sound "cute" and squeal. It's part of their culture.

It seems for them, anime girls are either :
1. waaaay below 18
2. 18, give or take a year, but look 17
3. 34 years old
5. 100 years old

but nothing in between of that!
