Pitchformula -- the key to understanding pop music?

Wow. WOW. The lead story on Slashdot right now is about a musician who decomposed the record reviews on Pitchfork to come up with a "formula" for music which would be popular by their standards. I haven't listened to the MP3s of what this guy came up with (I'm still at work), but the idea is BRILLIANT!

I'm listening to the first song and I think it's pretty damn good. Though I don't think it really has anything to do with a formula, he probably is just a fairly good song writer. Reminds me of a Connor Oberst song.

Wow, that's pretty good. I agree that he got the formula down pretty well. The music he wrote (judging by the first song) isn't bad either, except that the drums sound too manipulated (probably because he edited the hell out of it).
