Pizza Hut changes its name to Pasta Hut

What's better. A bowl of spaghetti and meat sauce and a glass of wine for the game... or 3-4 pizzas, 5 sixpacks of beer? I don't think Pasta Hut would work at all. When people want fatty fast food, they want fatty fast food. They don't want friggin pasta!

It's really about families, IMO.

What's better than arguing over the last slice? Or who gets the pepperoni that falls in the middle of 2 slices?

If family wants to order food, they want greasy pizza. Pasta is all about mama cooking sauce for hours, and everyone sitting around a huge bowl, and splattering sauce all over the dining table.

How disappointing will the kids be when Daddy comes home with a box of pasta instead of a double cheese pizza?

Incidentally, there was a special on KFC on the Food Network over the weekend. One of the lines (and I'm paraphrasing) was something like: "It took a food that everyone loved to eat but no one wanted to prepare and made it accessible."

Basically, KFC took all of the hard work out of chicken, which was traditionally viewed as a Sunday meal (compared to say McDonald's and burgers).

I'M JUST SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS!!!

I saw that too. That was a great show.

Apparently, pasta is the new "dish that takes too much effort to prepare". Americans getting lazier with each generation confirmed.

If they don't want pasta they can still order a Pizza, they're not that stupid.

Oh well. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo and it was quite good. Not exactly like how I like it but just as good as the one I got at Olive Garden (From what I remember).

So you can commence calling me lazy and whatnot, but in this dorm there are only two communal kitchens and 400 students... no thanks.

I'll be ordering again tommorrow, Pasta Hut. You have my vote.

(And the breadsticks = New God)

There appears to be your problem.

My roommate cooks a single pan of spaghetti every weekend, and it serves as my lunch for almost the entire week. For something like $2-3 total.

This is a dumb move, why not just call it "Sub Hut" since they serve subs now also, or even better just call it "Wearreveryveryconfusedaboutourmarketingdirection Hut"

Stick to your day job Pizza Hut...

Hey, we're busy people, us Americans. The new seasons of... whatever the hell is on TV nowadays, has just started.

This is totally unscientific but ime pasta dishes are seen by many UK-ers as a utility weeknight dish you make at home, not something really nice and special you'd go out to eat. Its not like Italians who can get really excited about good pasta prepared expertly with a simple but first rate pomodoro sauce or suchlike.

otoh pizza is v competitive nowadays on UK high streets, there are many cheap, no brand alternatives which are around a quarter / third of the price of Pizza Hut and the other branded chains so I understand why they felt they had to do something.

I don't know if this was true in the UK but here in the US Pizza Hut advertised as Pasta Hut, when they were advertising pasta, they made it clear that it was baisicly still Pizza Hut but still...

It's a brilliant move. Take out/fast food Italian is like, an untapped market.

But then again, what does it say about Western consumers when we can't be bothered to throw some store bought pasta into a boiling pot of water and throw some canned sauce into another pan?

It says "I'm hungry and I don't want to cook tonight?"

There used to be a show on Food Network when they first started out called "How to Boil Water" (I loved that show).

I think it's time to revive it :lol

Rachel Ray and 30 minute meals? Pffftt....5 minute meals or no deal.

I remember reading that How to Boil Water was the lowest rating show on cable.

Until a few years ago my sister couldn't open a can unless it had a ringpull. So it's not just Americans.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to make a boiled egg in the UK.

All in all, it was an odd show for sure, but I liked the off color humor and miserably failed jokes :lol it was a meta-lulz type of show.

They need to revive it with a much hotter chef (Giada...ONNOMNOMNOM) and a much funnier comedian.

The first time I boiled an egg, I was thinking to myself "How the fuck do I know when it's done??" :lol

They did this as an April Fools joke this year in the US.

Chain Will Become World's Largest Pasta Company Overnight

DALLAS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- After 50 years of delivering great
pizza, today Pizza Hut revealed that efforts are currently underway to
rebrand the chain as "Pasta Hut" in conjunction with the arrival of its new
Tuscani Pastas, which are available starting tomorrow. Speaking to
employees at a celebration for the launch of the new pasta offerings, Scott
Bergren, Pizza Hut CEO, described the large-scale changes the company has
made to support this new direction:

-- All exterior signage at Pizza Hut's Dallas headquarters facility has
been replaced with the new Pasta Hut logo.

-- A national print and television advertising campaign begins today,
proclaiming "Pizza Hut is now Pasta Hut."

-- The company's Web site has been redesigned, including the new URL
http://www.newpastahut.com, the new Pasta Hut logo and a message for
consumers: "Pasta so good, we changed our name to Pasta Hut!"

-- Pizza Hut restaurants across the country have begun installing banners
that read "Coming Soon . . . Pasta Hut."

"For 50 years we've been all about pizza," said Bergren. "As we've
prepared for the launch of our new line of Tuscani Pastas our customers
have consistently told us these pastas are so good we should change our
name to Pasta Hut. Starting tomorrow, Pizza Hut is Pasta Hut."

Tuscani Pastas will come in two chef-inspired styles -- Creamy Chicken
Alfredo and Meaty Marinara. Both feature Rotini pasta and a delicious blend
of sauce and cheese that's added to the pasta before it is oven baked. Each
three pound serving of Tuscani Pastas costs $11.99 and includes five
freshly baked breadsticks.

Tuscani Pastas can be ordered online at http://www.newpastahut.com, or
through the company's newest method of ordering, Total Mobile Access, using
text messaging or mobile Web on your cellular phone.

Actually - I think he is right on point. If you go with Pizza Hut, for $12 + delivery and tax, you get a tin full of pasta that supposedly serves 4. The two pastas available are "meaty marinara" and "creamy chicken alfredo."

Take "meaty marinara" for example...

You could easily buy a 1 pound box of Barilla pasta (your choice - Angle Hair, Penne, Spaghetti, Linguine, etc.) for $1.50 and a $3 bottle of Barilla marinara and in under 10 minutes you are ready to pour a hot pot of marinara sauce into a hot pot of pasta. You could literally do this for under $5, in less than 10 minutes.

If you want to splurge a bit, and are willing to spend five more minutes in your cooking prep, chop up some fresh parsley and add to the marinara sauce (usually around $2 for several nice sprigs) and fry a 1/2 pound of ground beef (usually around $2.50 or so) for some meat sauce.

You are still under $10, and probably under 20 minutes.

If you really want to go all out, sprinkle some parmesan cheese over the pasta after you plate it, although at that point, you will go over the magic $12 (especially if you buy some nice reggiano instead of processed parmesan).

Now, granted, I have never had the Pizza Hut pasta, but I am willing to bet that what I have suggested above will taste much better than some processed pasta in a tin. And - there is just something about making your own food that makes it more enjoyable.

A similar set of circumstances apply for Chicken Alfredo, which is also inexpensive to buy and does not take long to make.
I'm sorry but your whole post is bullshit. The cost of hot food and drink has always been the most expensive way to buy. Period.

Do you go to a restaurant, and think 'Yeah, well, I could have made this at home for a third of the price!' Of course you could, but then you wouldn't be eating out.

Food and drink is all the same. A coffee from McDonald's is ÂŁ1 something, you think it costs that much to make? No, and people could make one for pence at home, but they choose to drink out.

By your definition there should be no restaurants in the world because they all make money on the stuff they sell.

Buying pre-made pasta is ridiculous. It's like a dollar to make a pound of pasta wtf.

At least making your own pizza takes quite a bit of effort in comparison...

Seriously, I boiled the shit out of that egg and even added more water :lol
:lol I haven't boiled an egg in a while, but I think there's like a 20 minute rule and then you spin it on the counter top. If it's not a wobbly spin, it's done.

Really? At least in the area of the US I'm in, there is a Fazoli's on every corner. Their breadsticks...oh so delicious.

Fazoli's is mostly midwest (IN, OH, KY). I wish they were here in PA. Fazoli's is so good and awesome.

God, I'm tired of seeing those Pasta Pizza Hut commercials. So cheesy. Shit looks disgusting too.

You know, I've noticed that Pizza Hut pizza is WAY better when you eat at the Pizza Hut. It's startling how much better it is when you eat there, really.

Yeah, we have a few here in central Ohio. They definitely have fairly good food at great prices. I have several "real" italian places that I'd rather go to, and I prefer Olive Garden (actually, I really, REALLY like OG) when it comes to chain restaurants, but fazoli's is a nice option to have. Awesome breadsticks, that's for sure. Too bad the one closest to me is closing and turning into a credit union. Same thing happened to the local Schlotzsky's. :(

Now THAT's a stupid move. In effort to get out of a saturated market, they're entering another saturated market dominated by Friday's, Applebee's, Chili's, etc.

Terrible move. At least with takeout/fast-food pasta, there is a relatively untapped national market.

Applebees a sports bar? Not any of them I have ever seen. They seem more like a laid back family friendly restaurant.

They still sell and deliver pizzas, only now you can come inside to a sports bar. Seems pretty cool to me. Pizza buffet with HD sports?

All the Applebee's/Chili's/Friday's/Ruby Tuesday/etc. franchises around here have bars and sports on all the time (central NJ).

Agree with this. I never get delivery with any restaurant because by the time it gets to your house it's crap. I always pickup (cheaper too since you don't have to tip or pay delivery charge), but Pizza Hut is best eaten at their restaurant. I like their buffet too. Too bad just about all their sit down restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale are closed now. It's sad to see the shell of a pizza hut restaurant now used as an insurance office.
