Planetside 2 launching on PS4 on June 23

I can make a thread with a simple List (gafname, psnid, Region). Is that enough?

Assuming the goal is for people to play together in some fashion, there'll need to be some discussion regarding server and, importantly, selected faction (New Conglomerate, Terran Republic, Vanu Sovereignty)

From what I know as a player on the PC version over a year ago, factions break down lore- and play-wise as follows:

NC - yellw and blue - largely mercenary force, employed by hyper aggressive 'space-capitalist' Megacorps. Troops talk about 'freedom' a lot, but they're typically just in it for the paycheck.
-- Faction 'flavour' guns are skewed toward slow rate of fire and high damage per bullet, lots of recoil.

TR - black and red - armed force underneath a group of 'space fascists', pretty much.
-- Faction 'flavour' guns are high rate of fire, low damage per bullet, moderate recoil.

VC - purple - brain-washed spandex-wearing zealots put to war by 'space cultists.
-- Faction 'flavour' guns are moderate rate of fire, low damage per bullet, zero recoil.

None of the three are positively themed military forces, story-wise, so it's a pick-your-poison sort of affair.

(NC 4 lyfe)

Forgot about this after the multi email fake outs from the beta lol. Nice surprise on my day off after I return from the beach!

If we are voting for which faction to choose, my vote is either the reds or purples, can't stand the color scheme of the blue-yellow guys.

Reason: I'm Finnish and the yellow and blue would feel like joining Sweden's national hockey team.

I'm all about Vanu. I like the purple and the weapons and vehicles are nice.

Downloading now from PSN store. Funny thing is it shows up in my download queue as "Planetside 2 Closed Beta 2" - anyone else experience this? Maybe they just haven't changed a setting somewhere on the PSN store.

Just gonna throw this out there as someone who has consistently played since beta on PC, but statistically speaking, VS is the best faction and NC is the worst. On PC the VS consistently win the most Alerts and have an average K/D higher than the other two factions with TR in the middle and NC in last.

There are two main reasons for this, first off is that VS weapons tend to be easier to use. Even though they generally have less damage than TR or NC they also tend to have less recoil and bloom making it easier to hit with. The Magrider stability while hovering makes it much more accurate than the other tanks and the hovering also makes it much less vulnerable to C4 and other rocket launcher.

The other reason, on the NC side is that their weapons are too focused on 1v1. The Vanguard will win any tank fight heads up, but in large battles the slow moving, slow firing makes it overly vulnerable to infantry. Likewise with MAXes, the NC will be able to one-shot infantry, but they have about 1/3 of the killing potential per reload which means that in any large push NC are much quicker to be overwhelmed.

Since, as far as I know, balance is going to be in parity with the PC version you'll likely see the same results on PS4, or more likely exacerbated as as the hard-to-use weapons on the PC will struggle even more on a controller and vice versa.

Tried it on PC around launch but it ran really bad, tried this beta for a bit but didnt get any sense of accomplishment really.. Just felt like a huge clusterfuck, gonna give it another try though

Fair points, but still, NC 4 lyfe.

One thing I'm curious about in terms of PC parity is the obvious factor of the game transitioning to controllers versus KB/M and whether controls will shift accordingly. Have the devs factored in some element of auto-aim to the PS4 version? If so, that could alter the approachability of, say, the NC's SAW, which has a high potential but a steep learning curve.

Also, just a tip, albeit personal and subjective and based on PC experiences: the game doesn't sell itself well as a solo affair. Try playing in a reasonably co-ordinated Outfit, run by officers who have a plan, before writing the game off as inherently complete balls.

Disclaimer: the PS4 version might actually be inherently complete balls, Outfit or not. Remains to be seen.

Well yeah, I've been NC since back in PS1. My hope is that when the PS4 population starts to stabilize and VS performance starts to edge up and NC performance starts to slide down maybe Daybreak will start to take a serious look at the balance issues. Meanwhile people will shut up about the idea that "VS has better leadership/teamwork/nonsense."

I think I will make a thread with a simple List first, gather some Information and add it to the thread. Not a real ot, but a place for team up and discussions. Thank you

Downloading now, is there a thread for PS4 users to join up together or is the game crossplay?
Will make one later

If GAF is sticking w/ Vanu, I'm fine with that.

In the beta and release on PC, I stuck with Vanu as well. Just liked their futuristic aesthetic.

Downloading right now. Kinda surprised though that it doesn't have a full trophy list and a Platinum. Oh well, not that it really matters.

If the Vanu is the safest choice I think we should go with the total opposite i.e. NC
I hate one-sided factions wars

What is the best purchase for this game as in DLC for starting off?
I see a membership, coins and classes but I'm clueless to what I need.

I am downloading from the PS4 storefront and the file is named Planetside 2 Closed Beta and an update file is downloading as well.

Am I downloading the correct files?

edit: nevermind, previous posts answer my question. Looking forward to playing this! Hopefully someone more motivated than myself will get a GAF clan going ;)

Would like to know this too. The item on the store is just called Planetside 2, but on the dashboard and the download list it's called Planetside 2 Closed Beta 2.

It looks as though the update file bumps it to the final version. Thats what posts in this thread are saying.
