PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

M16 has become my sniper when I can't find a sniper. Absolutely deadly. If I have a sniper available, then yea, I'll chose any other assault rifle or even the UMP over it.

The AKM is the vastly superior weapon for long-range kills for the 7.62mm ammo type alone.

I'm just not having as much fun as I was previously with this game. About 140 hours of play and it's stale to me now. The fun parts of the game are still fun, but there's so much downtime between those parts for me right now. This combined with a few recent changes makes those fun parts harder to get to. Think I'm putting this down until another major update.

Start dropping into major landing zones like military base or the big cities so that you get to the fun faster

Serious question: How do you use shotguns well? I have no problem killing an entire four person team with a UMP rush and attack strat, but I can't even kill people I have the jump on at close range with any shotgun.

M16 is the GOAT gun for single fire spam, almost no recoil. Can't manage recoil for shit, it's why I never go with the AKM or SKS.

I usually have good luck with the shotgun when people are coming to me and I only have to peek a corner to pop them. It's not meant for an aggressive run and gun playstyle.

logic won't deter me from hating the m16, i just never have had a game where i did anything worthwhile with it, something about it just makes me upset

the only thing i like about it is that its iron sights are better than the seemingly nonexistent AKM one

With so many people saying there is skill based matchmaking and based on my own experiences I think it has to be true, which is really frustrating. You play the game more, hopefully get better at it, but the finish line is constantly moving so the feedback the game gives you is that you are stagnating or even getting worse. How terrible would it be to just have a pure connection based matchmaking? You improve at the game, you do better and win more. Nothing unfair about that.
As far as I know, virtually every ladder (elo) system ever aims to bring players to 50% winrate.

It can be frustrating because A) being forced to play with and against mediocre players means you get into bad habits and it's difficult to learn good habits, and B) you feel frustrated because the game feels rigged against you to push you into a 50% win rate.

As with most games, I'd love to have easy wins most of the time. But think about it from the other side. If you won most of the time because it's connection-based, you would consider it "nothing unfair". But what if you're a lower-skill player forced to always play against high-skill players because of your connection? That's going to also drive players away and harm player experience (while also making your matches harder, as a side effect).

What a great game. First match I went straight to school, when I landed I found UMP immediately.
Few seconds later I found an enemy, I aim and shoot, but then auto fire bug happens.
Then he shoots me with a fucking pistol, because my gun was jammed.

Next round I was camping in a tower with SKS+8x.
Opposite side I see enemy camping close to window, I shoot him 3 times to upper chest. Does he die? Nope
Very soon after that I die again and finish match with zero kills.

UMP and SKS, both are trash.

Well that anecdote has convinced me, never picking either up again.

I don't think I've gotten a single one of my chicken dinners without melting a few people with the UMP. Are you sure you didn't have it on burst fire? When they added it it made me think my gun was jammed too. But it was set to burst fire.

I usually have good luck with the shotgun when people are coming to me and I only have to peek a corner to pop them. It's not meant for an aggressive run and gun playstyle.

Even in those situations I don't do well with any shotgun. I guess I'll just stick to my plan of ignoring them. I do better with pistols.

UMP with attachments is great.

If I have a scar/m16/akm/m4 and a UMP with mods.... if I am in a semi close quarters battle I will purposely switch to UMP to down enemies. That thing is no joke, even after the nerf.

Maybe it's just me, but this is how I use the weapons.

M16 is mid to far range.
Scar is all around good for any situation, but I feel best with it mid range.
AKM is heavy hitting, close-mid range.
M4 I like in close range battles mostly.
UMP only close range.

.
I also tried to tap fire, but it still didn't fire. Gun was jammed for good.
I really hope the next patch fixes gun jamming.

UMP is still great post nerf.

Are you sure it was the auto fire bug and not you putting it into burst mode?

edit: Oh you're sure? That's weird, even the autofire bug will usually single tap. I've never heard of the gun completely stopping before.

Well the gun started to fire after 5 or so taps, but it was too late at that point.

From my understanding auto fire bug is related to server performance, if the server lags when you shoot your gun jams.
PUBG surpassed GTAV, no wonder if there's some server issues.

Edit: To be fair, UMP is fine. I occasionally get really frustrated with the game and then I make rant posts. Gotta release my frustration someway.

my only problem with the SKS is that i suck with it, and it feels bad to tag people twice with it in center mass and have them survive because i am totally going to miss the rest of the shots and die like a dummy. the magazine just seems to empty so quickly. i get killed by it constantly though

if i never see another M16A4 again in my entire life it will be too soon

fuck that gun

It doesn't have the damage or firing rate of some other ARs, but it's super versatile. The burst shot is clutch in mid-range and even in close quarters if needed. You can scope it out for a competent DMR when you you don't have a sniper rifle. I didn't love it at first, but now I almost always pick it up because its the best contingency plan for mediocre loot drops.

My fav combo is M16 and AKM. M16 for mid to long range and AKM for close range situations.

AKM is a beast at long range too if you can handle the recoil, amazing gun.

Ideal weapon loadout for me is Vector with extended mag and holographic/2x scope (and other attachments) for close/close mid range and a AKM with 4x for mid/mid long range. I'd say 8x scope but I'm complete shite at ranges over maybe 150 meters so 4x is better for me, plus its way more well rounded.

My ideal loadout is AKM with 4X ACOG and SKS with 8X scope.

AKM slays both close and at long ranges. The SKS is great all-round sniper, manages to kill dudes at half a kilometer easy.

Manage to get someone to walk into a room and think it's clear by putting a Med Kit as bait, second I go to unload on them with my UMP at full auto..... NETWORK LAG

Fuck me :/ I'm sticking to Squads, I really don't have much fun as a single person anyway.

There is no auto fire bug? The UMP only has single shot and burst fire modes (3shot)

Actually there is and I believe it's a server issue as when you DC or have a slight loss in connection guns and vehicles will stop firing and stop on a coin flip until you re-apply the command (fire or move key).

It's common across all auto weapons and have cost many deaths for myself and team mates alike.

Almost at 200 solo games now and still no Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. Came in 2nd place twice.

Feelsbadman

Doing well but not winning makes it harder to win in the future, because Top 10 finishes will still considerably boost your matchmaking score. I'm kind of in the same boat as you.

This is what really frustrates me as I mentioned in my rant about SBMM earlier. I've played 398 rounds with only 1 win out of 77 top tens (and 8 2nd places which is the most frustrating of all). I can get into the top 10 with regularity and the top 20 constantly just by playing smart and using good situational awareness. But I'm also sporting an ugly 0.45 k/d so more often than not once I get into the end game I'm up against better players because the SBMM thinks I'm good. I'd probably be better off just going Rambo at the start of every round. Either I get everyone's gear and am strong for the end game or I die quick and keep my skill rating from getting too high. But I don't want to play that way. I enjoy the survival element of the game which is what makes it unique to me from other games. I guess until/if they change to a more sensible matchmaking system, I'll just keep splitting my time across the different server locations. I've not noticed any ill effects from having a higher ping and in some cases it seems like it might even be advantageous, which is a whole other problem altogether.

Oof, 8x scope with an M4 and I'm pretty deadly. Shame we lost in the last battle due to my partner's fuckup with a molotov lol. If we'd gotten that chicken dinner then I'd think it'd be pretty hard to do better than this.

You can't optimize for a 50% win rate when it is 1 v 100 (or 1 v 50). To spread wins evenly it would be a 1% win rate.

Yeah not sure if prefer the M16 or the AKM for sniping (obviously when a real sniper isnt available). M16 has attachments but the AK has more power

True. I should say "win" can be replaced with whatever the matchmaking condition is for a game, e.g. "top 10 finish".

It is so difficult to matchmake for this game. Honestly, it isn't that hard to get to top 20 or even top 10 by purposely trying to hide and get there. A lot of people do that too. So many people don't have Chicken Dinners, yet they have a good amount of top 10/20s.

I honestly don't have a better idea with how to matchmake though. Win Rate would be tough since the majority of the player base is at 0% across the board. They haven't published how they do it, have they?

I'm guessing a combination of damage done and position finishing would be factored in. If you consistently finish high, you're good on some level. If you consistently finish high and also consistently deal some damage, you're probably better than someone who does 100% hiding.

If you win much, that's probably a massive boost since you're actually succeeding, even if you hid most of the game.

Also, I think whoever suggests asian servers are easier because of the matchmaking should also remember that higher ping helps you, so you actually have a bit of an advantage.

Does anyone else here have an issue with the game freezing when trying to go back to the lobby from a death? I have to kill it with task manager and restart the whole game.
