PlayStation 3 Advertising Art is Impressive

I really like them. The first one is totally what the RE5 should be like. I think I might be obsessed with RE5.

Mhm, it's interesting that a chilean agency created the second pic, as the chilean army used/ still uses German style uniforms. So they really didn't have to look far for inspiration... but then again the whole aesthetics of the pic scream nazi to me, so in my opinion they really shoud have given this a second thought before greenlighting the ad.

Why? I think we are exaggerating here.

Neat artwork, they'd make a great background for a PS3. That said, I don't think they would help sell a PS3 if that really is their purpose.

The first one looks more LOTR-ish, why are you guys forcing yourself into believeing it has something to do with God of war III?

In fact it reminds me of Saruman's orc factory.

"Artistic" is one way of putting it, I guess.

You could also say pretentious. Kind of creepy, too. Great, it represents building a monument to honor the gamer - but it's being built by a bunch of ugly ogres and nazis? What the hell does that even mean?

Considering what gamers do to creatures like that in most games, why would they be building a monument to honor them? Does Sony even know?

I guess you could call the images "amazing", just don't think about them too much, eh?

Am I the only person that is a bit baffled by this? Seriously, Nazi style imagery to advertise Playstation in Europe?

Awesome art though.

The concept is, I think, the 'citizens' of the videogame looking out, seeing the player, and thinking he/she is some kind of God. So they build a monument to him/her.

Think of that episode of The Simpsons where Lisa accidentally creates a whole society by accident, in a petri dish, and they look out and see her, and come to worship her as their God.

I think the themes are general and not specific to any game. A war/WWII theme, a fantasy theme etc.

In terms of the advertisments intent/focus, I think it's trying to communicate that these games, Playstation games, make you - the player - feel like a God: in control, powerful etc.

What's with the "man in uniform must be Nazi" responses? it's just an army! This is as bad as "Black person used must be racist!!"

Well, if you can't see the references in that picture, you must be blind. But still, why would I care, it's still awesome.

I absolute love those two images. To me, they represent the gaming world inside-out: usually we create and build the VG characters - here the games and assets are creating and building gamers (their own Gods).

Nice art.

First one is LotR inspired, second one is Nazi Germany. This is not up for debate.

I agree. But are they building or destroying the statue ?

Is the message is " We, Sony, are supporting Gamers " (by building statue of them) ... it's like a love declaration to their customers... You know what I mean : Sony is doing it for gamers and they show it, to prove it's not like Nintendo, not making games for gamers anymore... Or so...

I like it, consumers are smarter these days. They expect to be entertained if you're going to try and sell them something.

That's why I think a lot of people don't get SCEE adverts.

and by gamer you mean someone who played games from the 1990s to 2006

They're quite clearly building these... but I don't think that conclusion of yours is sound. If you read it that way, though, more power to you. The actual interpretation is open to every individual and should remain so.

Probably. :p

Those are pretty awesome ads! PS3 owners each get enormous statue confirmed.

The second one is probably resistance 2.

As for the top one, not sure, probably god of war 3.

Wow, this stuff is awesome.

Personally I see it like a lot of other people here do. Its gaming's two most prolific enemies revering the player. Its sort of like a fear of god thing going on. Very cool.

Soooo impressive!

Great artwork but I'm not sure comparing the Playstation to the Nazi army is going to do wonders.

Those banners with X, square, triangle, are pretty damn close to the nazis.

Actually something about those banners remind me of Killzone for some reason.

Hmm... I wonder from where the artists drew their inspiration...
