PlayStation 3 ending production in Japan

+ 60GB HDD, built-in Wi-Fi, free online play, and later on streaming apps without additional paywall (after Netflix was freed from exclusivity to 360). The entry price seemed steep compared to the competitors, but the value of the package was better.

And to an extent it was the most powerful console at the time. It's a shame the convoluted hardware hindered what could have been an undeniable argument thanks a string of shoddy ports that plagued the system for the majority of it's life.

But the exclusives were a true testament of its visual capabilities, the console only started to show it's true colours in last few years, games like GOW3-ACENSION, Uncharted 3 and even Killzone 2 smokes anything on the 360 in my opinion ofcorse.

I'm sad, because I still use my PS3 regularly, much more than my PS4, which I boot from time to time mostly to play some Plus game.

Good bye old friend. Still got my fat 60GB with the silver trim. Afraid to hook it up and turn it on. I think it's better to keep it packed and imagine it still works instead of discovering it may be out of commission.

Still the best console Sony ever produced when you consider ps1 PS2 and ps3 capabilities. Also the memory card slots Linux and swappable hard drive. Wish console companies were still aiming high.

I remember when it was laughed upon having a 10 year life cycle :) To be a bit fair though, maybe people thought that it ment 10 years before PS4 would be released.

PS3, a great system! My most played console of all time.

Yeah, WipEout HD, Killzone 2, God of War 3+Ascension, The Last of Us, Uncharted 2+3, Journey, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls looked absolutely fantastic on the system. At launch Resistance: Fall of Man looked very clean at 1280x720/QAA, and had pretty good looking reflections. MotorStorm was also a looker back then.

To my recollection, some multiplatform titles were more or less better on the PS3, like Final Fantasy XIII, Burnout Paradise, and Batman: Arkham City. They were the minority though.

I wish I had the extra cash at the time to pick up one of those 500 GB super slims at Walmart when they had them for $150 so I could put my regular slim away as a back up.

Btw just for the future i was thinking of picking up a second ps3 so that i can only play downloads on one and keep the other for disc based activity .

the launch ps3 models are a bit cheap should i get those or another slim ?

I just love i have 3 sony console now psone, ps2 slim and ps3 and all of them can use the same video cable and both ps2 and ps3 use the same power cable as well.

Have 3 times the library for it than PS2. What an awesome system. About 105 games on it and 35 PS2 games.

The console I played and own most game, digital (86 but I should check my log) + physical (107 if i remember right).

Reall great console, despite its flaws and terrible first life span with games a lot worse in graphic and fps... but I still played and loved Bayonetta on it, so I don't care lol... XD

Worst generation? It's the one that gave us the Souls games, therefore it's the best gen. :)

Well, I didn't play them at the time. ;) The lack of horror and the downfall of my beloved series weighed more on the scale, particularly that of Silent Hill. The onslaught of FPS and tacked online modes didn't really help either. Then there's the closing of Studio Liverpool. It did give me gems like The Last of Us, Journey and WipEout HD, put that's not much compared to what PS2 and PS4 offered during the first half of their generations.

It's happened, the age of the PS3 Is over but never forgotten. Amazing how far the system has come since that infamous reveal. I wonder how much longer PS Plus games will appear for the system.

Already? But there's still so much great stuff released recently/still in development for it, like Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Persona 5, Steins;Gate 0, etc... RIP

Gee whiz... Havnt played mine in forever... Maybe I should boot it up again, I have literally hundreds of games on it to play still. Mine is like 9 years old now... My wife bought it for me in our first year of marriage on boxing day.

Might be time to buy a backup...

During the PS2 gen, dint had enough money to buy games, and now don't have enough time to play them and looks like this will be the norm going forward. PS3 happened at the perfect phase of my life and will always be the best console generation for me personally. Good bye old friend.

My original 60 GB got stolen, along with Steel Battalion, Dreamcast, a Technics 1210 etc. I hate thieves. :(

I should probably pick up one of those ugly slims before they're gone. It's always good to have a backup.

People should hack/jailbreak their PS3's give it more life

Can do stuff like playing MKV videos, backup your games to hard drive, cheats and mods, install xbmc etc
