I read the full message, you seem to be saying that in an environment where RR is reviewed poorly, advertised poorly, even though it costs less it may sell worse?

If I correctly interpreted that... then moving it over to the PSP....RR reviewed better on PSP, it was advertised more on the PSP, I can't remember but I think it was cheaper than NFS, but in the end it sold worse than NFS.

Wipeout even outsold RR on the PSP, and ATV wasn't far behind.

I'm sorry if I'm slow today I'm just not getting what you're trying to say.

NFS has established itself as a potent multiplatform brand-name and does well regardless. Competitors more need to do well against it than be expected to beat it out for the top sales crown. Remove the focus strictly from who sold best (which is why I only vaguely reference the numbers listed earlier) and how sales went among the competitors.

RR PSP sold very well against NFS PSP, helped no doubt by strong buzz about the graphics and how it would be a safe bet based on reviews for those who decided to pass on NFS.

NFSMW on 360 became a double threat, starting off with the popularity of the brand and then being reviewed higher on average than the 360 variant of RR.

And on 360, those who wanted a good well-reviewed game that decided to skip NFS...that was PGR3 in the 360 case.

Leaving RR6 nowhere to go among the street racing games.

I think he's saying the games' critical receptions had more influence over RRs & RR6. Which makes some sense, NFS is mainly a casual's game by comparison while RR really speaks to the gaming hardcore. RRs was trumpeted as the height of PSP graphics (still is in fact) and generally regarded as a AAA launch effort, the ultimate Ridge Racer in a sense... meanwhile RR6 was generally hailed as a visually inferior, low excitement effort and reminiscent of a handheld game. :/

I'd also say PGR and RR sell more to the same core audience than any of PSP's other launch racers do (NFS, WO, ATV). They're more similar in a lot of ways really.

RR6 on the PSP had a huge amount of buzz for it's looks and it was considered cutting edge. I don't remember looked like shit comments which were very prevalent for the 360 version. A couple RR6 levels looked plain dreamcast like.

It's uncanny...

that`s because of the Bubba factor, doesn`t make NFS better

Nowhere did I point out that one title was "better" than another(though obviously graphically RR is better than Underground Rivals) that conversation was focused around review scores, advertising etc... keep up now, and I have no idea WTH the Bubba factor is... but I'm also pretty sure I don't care.

Bubba Factor equates to the lowest of the low of the casual market, especially when it comes to EA titles being first in their menu because to Bubba: anything EA is good

read up on Deer Hunter's success story, it's amazing how Bubba turned into gold

Not really, the pics they released before are different, and from different areas. And they look better too. :P They have a different look to them too, different from teh hazy shit introduced in RR6.
Really? I just looked at them again and I think they look very very similar (comparing the new zoomed out city shot to them). I'd be willing to bet that larger pics will look very similar.

last year i would've blamed the infallible bad taste of xbots and their aversion to most japanese games for rr6's astonishingly poor sales, but that seems to be changing -- chromehounds and dead rising have had a lot of (well-deserved) success. nfs and pgr just squeezed ridge out, and ridge fans are probably playstation fans to some degree.

edit: and lair is probably next in the PS3 BULLSHOTS DOWNGRADE TOTAL procession. there was a shot in a fairly recent egm that showed off a dragon's tail in four big polygonal chunks. i remember they were touting really high poly counts for the dragons at one point. that seems to have gone.

It is funny you should mention Chromehounds. The immense joy that game brings to me was the inspiration behind giving RR6 a try recently. I am glad I did.

What bullshots? They've show the game running in real time at GDC. And that segmentation was also present in the E3 trailer that everybody (including me) believes is CG ;)
