PlayStation 4 All Access on 11/14 - 11pm EST on Spike + Live Stream

Dont. Set them free. Allow yourself to dream a little. New generations, greater power, more freedom for devs.

14 days.

New genres, revived franchises, spectacular open world masterpieces, scifi epic ship to ship battles, pirates, ninjas, lootwhoring, chickens in radiation suits, point and clicks, music to set your heart aflame, BASE jumping in Nepal, capturing all your flags, angels and demons losing their minds, and a boy, his friends, memories and tears?

One things for sure, there is nothing like the start of a new gen.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Dedicated to all the tenchus and giraffes out there.

Anyone who thought that a massive amount of games were going to be announced at Spike's event by my post I sincerely apologise - you have taken my post the wrong way. For that i deserve a ritualistic flaying at the hands of seven virgin dwarves for being a tad ambiguous. I did not mean that to be the take away.

I was merely making comment about those things that make devs excited in the coming gen. Things that should make you excited too :) And if a dev or several different groups of them based in quite a few different countries are making games that exactly fit the scenarios listed and do not want knowledge of their games leaking early have no fear. Let this letter of remorse quell your PR rage.

Even though epic ship to ship space battles are going to be cool, chickens in radiation suits are going to be delightfully glorious and BASE jumping off anything is something all games need to have, it does not mean i will spill the beans about them. Well, any further anyway....

It sounds like there's probably only going to be 1 new game announcement and it sounds like it is an open-world Space RPG/action kind of thing.

Lets be realistic here. The probability that Sony chooses a 11pm show on Spike TV to take the wraps of a new first party game is close to zero. The absolute most I could see happening is a GTAV PS4 announcement.

Sony have been very, very deliberate about where and how they release information on PS4 games. What would announcing a new AAA game the day before launch accomplish? They're already sold out (likely for months). They'd want to drive excitement one the launch surge starts subsiding. My guess is the VGAs will reveal one huge game and another reveal will come after Infamous releases. They're hoarding those game reveal cards for when they're needed.

I'd obviously be happy to be proven wrong.

It SHALL be glorious!

Well when we get the games anyways :)

I'll be patiently waiting for the games to announce then

Hmmm....

I love you Gopher, by the way.

I want GTA V on my PS4 but I doubt an announcement will come from Sony, would also be nice if they announce a PS4 version of GT6 released along with the PS3 version. It's either a new unannounced PS4 game or footage of the launch party.

Better not be fucking gta 5 exclusive. I want something new.

I'd be okay with a GTAV for PS4 announcement (whether it's exclusive or not) because I have been purposely avoiding current-gen purchases (including GTA V) due to wanting to spend money on next-gen. It would be awesome to get GTA V at an even higher fidelity and have that be one of the next-gen games I stay busy with.

Video game adaptation of Blade Runner coming to the PS4. Pants will be soiled.

yeah I know it's been done already SHUDDAP
Don't even joke about that dude. I want Quantic to tackle Blade Runner for a while now and after Kara, Singularity and pretty much flat out confirmation that their PS4 game is going to be sci-fi I'm getting pretty jumpy already.
So don't ever mention Blade Runner again ok?

The whole EPIC SPACESHIP BATTLING is making me giddy

Far Cry 4? It has been rumoured a bunch of times and would be an obvious feature after Far Cry 3. Hopefully this one will have 100% less racism this time around.

Thanks for the hints, GopherD. I'm hyped.

Who is GopherD? And why is everyone taking his post as some sort of tease of things to come? Am I missing out on a joke? Why am I asking so many questions?

GopherD works for Sony, he knows stuff.

He knows what's in the pipelines, and basically teases some cryptic stuff ( enough to not get fired) whenever it's good time to throw a bone to us.

I disagree. Sony hasn't announced many AAA games for PS4. The last one was The Order. Everything else before that got announced at the February event. Announcing a game at launch gives them extra attention, it could even sway people not getting a Xbox One after the PS4 hype train goes into frenzy from this launch event. I expect at least one AAA game from this event and another one at VGA's. Besides the PS4 lineup after inFamous and Drive Club seems empty besides The Order. If they wait longer to announce more 2014 games there won really be a big enough gap from announcement and release.

Pretty much. I think it's a really smart idea. First, timing it with launch gives the announced games a higher profile debut than they otherwise would've had (outside of E3 and the VGAs). Second, it makes launch seem like an even bigger deal than already was and keeps up their momentum.

And even if they announce, two big games between this show and the VGAs, they'll still have plenty of announcements locked away for 2014. It's only be two out of a dozen projects Sony have under wraps.

I wonder if epic space battles is referring to ND's Savage Starlight. Hmmmmm....

I feel like, as a tease, Savage Starlight was way too obvious. TLoU hint in Uncharted 3 was hidden so well that I'm immediately skeptical of something that was shoved right in our face like that. So I'd probably guess that the space battles hint relates more to Sony Santa Monica's new IP than Naughty Dog but who knows. Maybe Sony London will suddenly reappear outside of the casual/app space and debut a Colony Wars reboot.

I don't know. You guys keep saying this but is 11pm on Spike worse than a press conference at 2AM like TGS? How many people actually watch the VGAs anyway? The hardcore gamer audience is the only one that follows this stuff that closely and they will watch anyway or catch it on youtube later. No different than any other game announcement.

"Point and clicks" PS4 version of Walking Dead

That's very true! E3 and Gamescom weren't even televised either. If a game or two is announced, especially a big AAA game, word of mouth and the press will spread the news like wildfire.

Yeah I think people saying they wouldn't announce anything big with folks in line have the wrong perspective - the intended audience viewing this will be people interested in the hooplah surrounding launch, and the intent is to either get them out of the house and into a queue somewhere, or looking for a unit on the shelf somewhere the next morning.

For the people already in line, this is just going to be a lot of fun as we refresh our timelines looking for some cool news to talk about.

Is it possible for Gamestop to let people in the store and broadcast the special on their TVs in the store prior to handing out the consoles? Would be a really cool atmosphere I reckon.

Dayum. Demon's Souls 2 would make the PS4 a must buy for me. I've been contemplating waiting it out and seeing how the PS4/X1 pan out months from now, but with Demon's Souls 2 in the pipeline... no way I could resist.

Its not because the audience is in line. Its because there's no point. They're sold out, probably for the rest of the year. Showing a whizz bang AAA exclusive might get people to go to stores looking for a PS4. There wont be very many available. Much better to keep those announcements for when you need people back in stores like Q1 or pre E3.

The more I think about it the more a GTAV PS4 announcement makes sense (they won't mention the inevitable same day Xbox One version). Sony and Take Two are pretty cozy these days and Sony does have a small gap in their games lineup over Christmas.

i really shouldn't hype myself that there's gonna be something i wanna play at launch, but...

man i hope its something i wanna play at launch

This makes no sense. Why do you think Sony's advertising the PS4 launch if they're going to sell out anyway? It's because people don't have the memories of goldfish and they want to have as much momentum going in and coming out of launch as they can get. It's the difference between a Wii launch and a Wii U launch.

And if you're so down on Spike TV at 11PM launch night, where the hell are they going to announce those games in Q1 or pre-E3? GDC? Game Informer?

Ah, great. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I can be excited too! WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN

wow people. don't you read posts?

it's just cause 3
just cause 3
just cause 3
just cause 3
just cause 3
just cause 3

if only people read other posts to get some kind of clue.

Or maybe BASE jumping will make a return in the new Mad Max game Avalanche is working on?

TGS is not at 2am in japan, the place the announcements are for.
Then again people seem to be missing the point that this is right before the launch

I'm reading Gophers second post as "All this crazy shit is coming but I have no clue what, if anything, will be at this event"

Still don't know how DeS 2 can be possibly in production since its already have a spiritual sucessor and a sequel coming up
