Playstation 4 Pro 80's commercial.

If that offends you I hope you don't go into the Scorpio threads.

It doesn't offend me. Getting excited about one console "beating" another is just sad though. If you don't own shares in MS, Sony or Ninty, I don't see why you'd care so long as they're selling well enough to remain relevant.

lol no way they didn't do that "The Worlds Most Powefull Console" just because, seems like they are poking fun at "best selling console in America"

I don't think that 80's theme really matches the PS4 at all. Came off like someone just watched the Dark Souls\Blood Dragon spots and went to town. The for the players moniker is really cheesy as well, they should really drop it.

Eh, its a commercial?

Not sure what message its supposed to be sending. They already had the "World's most powerful console" branding for OG PS4, how are people supposed to tell the difference between the two models?

PS4 vs PS4 Pro

One released in 2013, the other releases in a few days.

And the attendants at stores will gladly tell customers PS4 Pro is more powerful.

Yeah, that one's a miss for me. I loved the Dark Souls 3 80's commercial - it was done with more finesse and felt more appropriate for the product.

Great ad, people really need to lighten up and take off their "critique" goggles sometime.

How am I supposed to know what benefits it will have for 1080P when all they did was show it running on a SD Cathode Ray Tube TV with no HDMI inputs? do I have to buy a RFU adapter to play the PS4 Pro? Sony need to be more to the point they are confusing consumers.

How they dare to show the original PSX opening screen? It belongs to a real awesome console that wasn´t plagued with remasters, and didn´t had mid gen "upgrades".

Eh it was ok I guess. Not super effective but gotta start somewhere I guess. Being a child of the 80s I groan every time I see stuff like this though because A. they're all made by people who didn't actually grow up in those times and they all try too hard (Blood Dragon, etc. as well) to be retro and B. It makes me feel really old that 80's commercials are considered vintage lol. The 90's can't be far behind.

What an awful advert.

PS4 Pro seems like something that they absolutely need to nail the communication for, and they're just not at all.

I'm sure the device will be solid, but they are doing a bad job of marketing it.

Agreed! Even their own website fails to justify the existence of the PS4 Pro outside of 4K support. You could replace the PS4 Pro with the PS4 Slim in this ad and the impact would be exactly the same.

I know that the PS4 Pro is designed for gaming enthusiasts, but that doesn't mean I should need to scour the internet for information on what it can do. I can only imagine how hard it will be for Gamestop and Best Buy employees to try to explain what this does besides 4K.

ok you didn't notice my "subtle" edit to the picture..

they really need to advertise the strenghts of this thing instead of doing cod ads

They don't really need to do anything except tell people that it's a more powerful ps4. It's going to sell. You guys act like vanilla ps4 isn't popular or selling or something.

You think putting an add out with bullets points that most casuals couldn't care less about will sell more consoles that an add associating the console with a new cod game?

It's been happening more lately. Console Wars

I don't understand. If it's the most powerful console, does that means it's more than the 2600's 1.19MHz CPU? I find that hard to believe.

The ad would have been ready for a while, they usually are.

And at least this one doesn't need a gigantic asterisk.

So tempting to get a Pro, I don't have 4K but I am interested in the 1080p upgrades.

Does anyone know if you can take your HDD out of the PS4 and put it straight into the Pro? I have a 2TB one in the PS4 that's full and don't want to download all that stuff again from PSN?

Also if I can swap them I assume I can stick the 1tb one from the pro in my old PS4 and then sell it.

Why do fans of sports care when they team wins? Or when your country does we in the Olympics. It's doesn't do anything to benefit you in anyway yet you root for them. It's a fan mentality. People sometimes have passion for the hobby and pick sides. So what? When you go to midevil times you don't root for all the Knights you root for your chosen color. Makes it fun.

It's misleading then because it's not out until next year and the ps4 pro does play games at native 4k.

That's the thing about marketing you have to be smart & they was smart enough to get this up on the website before any PS4 Pros was out on the market with 4K games & they also did it before PS VR was out on the market.

And PlayStation can keep their Worlds Most Powerful Console ads going until there is actually a more powerful console out there & even then they might still be able to use it.

Retail insiders have already said interest is high and it's been easy to explain what it does.

Contrary to the narrative on here, sometimes regular folk only care to know the basics, especially when the price is only $399.

It's made in the U.K. though so it has nothing to do with that. If they wanted to they could have said UKs best selling console.

This is different though. The whole point of a sports team is to compete; you can't play a game with just one team but you can enjoy a single console and it's games without having to resort to insults and side picking. Yes it's built into us to associate with a group we get it but that doesn't mean it's any less annoying. Saying that though it won't change and people shouldn't get all butt hurt over it; after all it's just an electronic device and these are multi-billion dollar companies that don't give two shits about you only your money.

I'm not really basing my opinion off of the narrative on here though. I worked in retail and sales for many years and I feel confident in saying that I would have a hard time justifying this to John Smith who is buying a PS4 for the first time. I wouldn't feel comfortable giving people blanket statements like "this is 2x as powerful" because I prefer to have examples of how that can improve things for them.

I'm not hoping the PS4 Pro fails, I just want to see Sony do a better job of explaining it outside of 4K support.

really? It is hard to tell customer on the floor that they will get 2x graphics power, larger hdd, faster cpu and best possible experience for only $100 more?

I am feeling confident to say that you did not do a great job at retail :-)
