PlayStation 5 as media player.

Both my PS5 and Samsung 4K TV are wifi connected, I do think content on the Netflix app is better looking on my TV but the one problem I have is my 2.4Ghz wifi on my TV is soo much slower than my 5Ghz wifi on PS5.

My internet speed is 250/25 and Netflix on PS5 is pretty much instant but my TV will take a couple secs or so to load something initially and slower when browsing the app.

My TV can't also handle 4K YouTube vids, it stutters and I have to lower to 1440p and I think its to do with the slow 2.4Ghz wifi connection, its just not great. But the PS5 will just load 4K YouTube vids instantly and play fine.

Yeah ATV 4K or a dedicated BD player are better options for features and image quality, the PS5 consumes an obscene amount of power during streaming/bd playback because the core hardware is used, there is no low power companion hardware to handle these tasks.

Flatpanels measured the PS5 uses up to 70-80w while working as a media player compared to 6w on a Shield or similar set top box.

If you do a lot of media watching get something else, those power bills will add up.

The lack of Dolby Vision on Sony consoles, is why I went with Apple TV. It also means I don't need to fuck around switching between game mode/cinema mode on my OLED. I just run PS5 in game mode and Apple TV in cinema mode. I guess I could use my TV built in apps, but Apple TV 4K is much more responsive, and their remote is great for scrubbing.

I don't like using consoles are media devices. My Nvidia Shield TV works best. Also consoles don't support Chromecast. Huge con for me

The PS5 is fine as long as you have a good setup. When all the tech aligns (4k HDR UHD Dolby Vision/Atmos, high-end AV reciever and TV, Capable Speakers, etc) it's a beautiful thing. :)

Sony has purposefully gimped the media playback capabilites of their last 2 consoles.

PS3 is still arguably the best for its time (tho the 360 was no slouch) but without the latest codecs it is now slowly becoming obsolete.

XB1 was a far better media player than PS4 and Xbox Series is likewise far better than PS5.

That said, I still prefer the nVidia Shield for most purposes, not least of which is superlative efficiency. The Series S is a close second in this regard now, however.

My Samsung 4K HDR TV does 4K Netflix much sharper then using Netflix from the PS5. But I don't think that's necessarily the fault of PS5.

I had the same thing happening when I used the XB One X for Netflix 4K content too. Same goes with Disney+.

I wonder why that is?

Are you turning off game mode? Most TVs have reduced image quality when in game mode.
