Playstation dun goofed

I've been Xbox since 360, but still like to keep tabs on what Sony are cooking up. I thought the presentation was alright. No console war nonsense here.

Didn't quite blow me away, but R&C, Spider-Man MM, GT7 and DS Remastered really grabbed my interest. Also SoulStorm as I'm a HUGE Oddworld universe fan but if it's timed exclusivity I'll probably grab it on PC or wait for the Xbox release. I won't be picking both systems up on release so it'll be Xbox first at release (all mates are on Xbox) and then PS5 at some point afterwards.

What MS have to do is really showcase some good first party games in July. Get some good first party footage in there. They don't want to drop the ball. Third party is third party whether it's shown first at an Xbox or PS5 conference.

Overall, was decent enough I think. Safe to say though as we draw ever closer to the new systems releasing I'm getting increasingly excited at leaving these God forsaken Jaguar CPU's behind :messenger_beaming:
 
I never understand these threads based on some hot personal take

1: Youre wrong, there were loads of ace games. Even Ratched and fucking Clank looked good.

2: no one cares what you think as a grain of sand on the gaming beach, buy whatever you want.

They showed a lot of exclusive games of objectively high quality.

Whether those games appeal to you personally or not is another matter but they showed sequels to very well selling games (Spiderman, Horizon, GT etc.), new IP from relatively respected/successful studios (Returnal, Sackboy) a remake of a fan favourite game from a very respected remake studio (Demon Souls) and a couple of third party exclusives as well (GhostWire: Tokyo)

I get if none of those excite or appeal to you because everyone has different tastes but it's also objectively wrong to suggest that they had no games or dropped the ball in any way. For the majority there will be games there that interest.

This is a really weird list to come up with as a reason to go Xbox instead

Literally all of those games can or will be played on current Xbox, 4 can be played on Playstation, one is 20 years old

Explain to me how a game simply having its main character be a woman is pandering? Is that really the point you're at? Any game with a female protagonist that doesn't look like a supermodel is automatically pandering?
 
The games will get better in time. You have to play the long game when it comes to these consoles.

On the plus side, Bugsnax looks incredible, so there's at least a glimmer of ho..
 
New Horizon, Spiderman, R&C and GT games, and a DS remake. I don't see how you can say they "dun goofed" with a lineup like that. You might not be interested in those games personally (and with the exception of DS, neither am I), but they're sequels to well-known, critically acclaimed, financially successful titles with a proven track record in terms of quality.

That being said, it's hard to tell if it's even possible for Sony to really fuck up in terms of consumer interest at this point. The PS5 hardware reveal trailer is barely 12 hours old, yet it already has almost as many views as the Series X trailer that's been out for over half a year.

Almost all the games shown had a lead female protagonist. Why are we now lacking male representation?
 
Thank you for sharing, this really needed the entire forums attention. Everybody was wondering if Cutty Flam was going to buy a PS5 or not.

Im glad we got that cleared and we can now move on as a community.

It's not Spider-man 2, It's an enhanced version of Spider-man 1 with extra Miles Morales content.
 
Just reinforced Sony's commitment to first party games, variety and giving us what we want. It 10000% solidified me getting a ps5 over any other console. Once again I saw a few potential goty contenders in the future which i never see or hear with Microsoft's anemic and very sterile two or three exclusives and indie fluff in between per presentation (shout out to tlou 2 BTW another goty winner by many for sure-we got another one!) With what was shown its hard to compete. Half the show was some great/interesting exclusives and other have a mixed bag of gd looking multiplat games. I'm all in. I've got 9 games on my buying list now 😊

game companies are dropping numbers these days

Look at how horizon zero dawn - horizon forbidden west or resident evil 8 become resident evil village

The only thing missing out was God of War(is coming), Infamous(Ghost on Ps4) and Uncharted/TLU (TLU2 on PS4).

Almost all Sony's studios were present... If you didn't like it.... Well... You don't like Sony games... And that's fine, just buy an Xbox or Nintendo.

Agree.

Whilst I enjoyed the event live I thought that the presentation format lost a lot versus a livestream of proper pre-conference show in a theatre, with an audience. With the result that even teasing 25 games in about an hour and then revealing the console's design felt curiously flat.

Nevertheless, looking at the hi-res videos this morning I'm feeling far more positive. They showed 26 games the majority of which (20 I think?) are exclusive in some shape or form. These games were pretty varied and the almost all looked, at least, quite good (notable exceptions Bugsnax and Goodbye Volcano High which look like Wii shovelware) with several titles being quite spectacular when viewed in 4K.

Of course we need to see more. We need gameplay, we need dates, we need tons more information about features, services, backwards compatibility, PS5 enhanced titles, etc, etc. but that wasn't the scope of the event.

Overall it was a good first showing, I look forward to seeing what else is to come over the next few weeks and months.

Spiderman is glorified dlc no number behind it. One is a remake of a series i have less than zero interest in. Now when naughty dog, god of war and days gone 2 come then we will be cooking with a more polished gt7. The games will come they have the best studios.
 
If most people admit that the Launch games and first few years are not great, then why buy a Console at full price at launch knowing there isn't much to play? :pie_thinking:

Wait a few years when the Library fills out and get them all cheap!
 
That's funny OP because PS5 has more to offer. Even if the game reveals weren't that interesting to you, Sony still had more to show.

That the next Spider-Man would feature Miles Morales has been obvious since the first game released in 2018.

And it's not "SJW pandering" for a game to feature either a black or a female protagonist.

What will be available day one other than Spiderman (doesn't interest me) and a bunch of sports games (not for me)?

I need a reason to pre-order.

They clearly made this game in the last few weeks to fit in with the George Floyd protest how else can a black person get the lead in a video game.

The only confirmed Holiday 2020 games from this, as far as I can tell, were Godfall, Spider-Man DLC and Jett. Actual launch line ups from Sony are rarely great.

Believe me there will be atleast 10 so if don't have time others will have you covered. Launches are always hit or miss that is why i snickered at all the whining about no launch exclusives for the series x. In the end they don't matter it is the steady stream of good games Sony puts out that wins. Not a few throw away launch titles.
