Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

In any case, We are ensured support from Sony, and Sony has some pretty darn capable studios. So I am not overly concerned.

I really think the PSN market is where the Move will shine though, and I hope dead space extraction being released on PSN is the first of many such releases. Release the individual games for Sports Champions for digital download, or add on packs for more variety of sports, and Sony will have my money.

MS is under more pressure to announce Kinect titles with core appeal. But it wouldn't be very beneficial for Sony to spotlight titles that probably won't be out until after next year's TGS.

The only interesting games from what I've played were Start the Party, Tumble, and Sports Championship.

I dunno but I couldn't seem to calibrate my Move controller well for Time Crisis. Now I'm not even sure if I want to buy it.

Yeah, I bought Sports Championship, Tumble, and am thinking about start the party and eye pet but kinda want a second controller first for me and/or company. Out of those two games vs. a second controller, what would you get?
 
If you're planning to focus on the multiplayer aspect of Move (like you'll primarily use Move when you have friends around or do some family bonding), get a second controller. Otherwise if you plan on playing solo most of the time, you can get the two games. Although I believe Start the Party is more fun with other people around.
 
Played move on my 100" screen/projector last night instead of Reach or Starcraft. I own all consoles...

Overall I am very happy with my purchase. Based on this and future wii lineup....definitely time to sell the wii. Launch lineup is weak, but I am looking forward to sorcery and trying kill zone. Would love a follow up to konami police 911.

-messing with camera for eyepet is lame and annoying

+Really loved every sport , and beats wsr hands down sport for sport
+more 1:1 than wsr but not by much
-- no Internet play....FU developer and Sony!!! With Internet would get 9.5
 
I think i'm going to return my Move. I just cannot get it calibrated correctly - I hate to compare, but my Wii just works without the need to calibrate itself. Perhaps it's my setup (distance/angle of PS Eye, screen size, lighting etc), but i'm on the verge of giving up.

The Move software has also not been that great. I know launches are early days, but I expected at least one game with a bit of substance. Echochrome II is about the only thing that really stood out. I suppose Resident Evil 5 as well, but I already played that in 2009 (and again, the calibration is not going well).

So, i'm not going to deny that the Move can work, but it's just not doing it for me and therefore I have no interest anymore.

What is your room setup? Maybe others can learn not to set it up like yours if that is the issue. Maybe you can post a diagram, or picture or at least heights/distances of the various things.

Or it could be the actual Move. At least one other person said theirs was stuck and always "leaning" left and worked fine after exchanging it.
 
So, I have to say that the lag is almost non existent, I was a little worried watching some videos, but I honestly believe it's their TV more than move itself. For example, if you use a 120hz TV instead of 60hz, it will add an extra frame in between, thus increasing the lag of your TV. Also some tvs just straight up suck.

What I found extremely helpful was the "input lag wars" forum on the AVSforums. It has just about every single popular tv with it's lag time in ms.

It's effectively free at the regular bundle price point too.....camera + move costs $90 purchased separately. Also that bundle makes no sense. You need the camera to play at all.
 
I think I'm gonna sit out on the Move for the time being. I was 90% sure I would pull the trigger yesterday but I've elected to get NBA2K11 on 360 and that game was 1 major point on me getting the move.

And it's 30 bucks. For completely useless pieces of plastic. Unbelievable. I mean, I know they had this shit with the Wii too, but it still blows my mind that 1) they make them in the first place, and 2) there are people who will actually buy them.

It's just a small bedroom with a 22" monitor on a standard sized desk. The Move is about 1-1.5 metres away from the PS Eye, like they suggested. The PS Eye is below the monitor, and angled slightly up, so that where I hold the Move naturally is in the centre of the screen. Like this:

I find that I need to make massive wrist movements to get it to go where I want, and even then it's a little hit or miss.
 
1 - 1.5 meters is not far enough away from the camera to work properly. I was having the same issues. I also have a small bedroom. But I angled the TV and was able to move back a couple more feet. That's when the calibration problems disappeared.
 
My setup is pretty much exactly the same as yours I NEED SCISSORS. Except I have the camera on top of the monitor. Perhaps try that? I have mine on top of the monitor, angled slightly down.

Not sure what distance I'm at. I would doubt much more than 1.5m though. I sit back a little bit from it, but not very much. Maybe try sitting back a little more (?)

Which games are you having issues with in particular?

edit - if playing sports champions or racquet sports, you really need to be standing up and back more. There's a guide box in the SC calibration, make sure you're back far enough to fit inside that. Pretty much everything else I've been able to play at not much more than 'desktop' distance.
 
I sit roughly 3-4ft from my 40" TV, and I have the move on TOP of the TV aiming downward.

I can successfully play Sports Champions, Tumble, and Echochrome ii all while sitting down.

I too had a couple issues with calibration in Sports Champions a couple times, but if you just "trick" it by putting the move where it wants to see it (notice the example guy's move location in reference to the white box around him and try to replicate this) then it works out just fine.

They say you need to be 8ft from the TV for Sports Champions.
 
Mainly The Shoot. But I find on Echochrome II, I need a a lot more effort to aim at the bottom of the screen, if that makes sense. Tumble works pretty much flawlessly.

I am going to try repositioning the Eye above the monitor to see if that makes a difference,

Would the bow even work? I mean, the camera always has to see the glow-ball thing, right?
 
Thinking about it more, wrt downward movement, I could easily imagine having more problems with this in a closer-quarters context if the camera is underneath the monitor and angled-upward. In that kind of set up, necessarily it'll have less visibility of space further down. Try it on top of the TV and angle it while imagining the field of view it has vs the space it'll be moving around while you're playing.

Also, I just found the calibration tool for the controller in the XMB menu, under Accessory Settings. It asks you to do some stuff I haven't seen in other calibration. That might be worth a try too, in case perhaps the sensors happen to be fudged up or something.


edit - oops, just deleted a bunch of stuff accidentally about calibration in The Shoot. But was basically saying that if you want subtle movement in it, use subtle movement/orientations in calibration! You're telling it quite directly how much movement should be required to move to the extremities of the screen when you are calibrating, and it will take that input as gospel. So if you want to be able to move to the edges with small changes in orientation, then when calibrating, hold the controller in your 'neutral' position and orientate it subtly towards the targets. I found this gives a much more sensitive response, it maps much small motion to bigger changes in the cursor position.

Very odd you are having issues with pointing in Echochrome ii since game doesn't even bother about where the sphere is. I can play it with the Move hidden behind the sofa no problem as it only seems to use the gyros.
 
I think I'm addicted to Bocce! The park level is crazy, just made a shot off a picnic table that hit a garbage can then knocked the other guys ball away and my ball ends up .6 inches away from the little ball.

The way you can spin the ball is awesome!

Ok, now I'm glad it wasn't on the EU starter pack demo disc.
 
I have really mixed feelings so far... only full game I have is Sports Champions, some games are fun but I'm finding the callibration really annoying. Not played anything yet that I felt could not be replicated with WMP, and it has struggled to replicate some motions especially with the gladiator game. The start select location are also terrible.

Looking forward to more support though, and really looking forward to giving RE5 a go.

whilst nothing in sports champions is out of the realms of what is possible with WM+ the fact that the controller doesn't keep losing where it is ala what ive found with WM+ (continuously having to place it face down on the floor to recalibrate it) is a big plus for me.

The augmented reality stuff in start the party is awesome.
 
Gladiator is pretty much perfect for me. I mean, you need to do the right moving to register it as a swing, but otherwise, the 1:1 motion is perfect.

My only complaint in gladiator: the weapons aren't being held at the right angle by the model. If you hold the remote straight, the blade is vertical, where it should actually be horizontal. Minor gripe.
 
I moved the Eye above the monitor and it's working a lot better now.

I could play the Shoot just as well as any Wii shooter I own, which is a positive direction. I must have encountered a bug, as this is the first time I have ever seen the pointer on the main menu and name selection. Weird.

The Echochrome problem is better too - it works flawlessly when i'm further away and just using the Move from a natural lap position rather than pointing.

XMB control is still a little wacked, but I think that's the same for everyone.

I'm fine with that. I played pretty much every game in Sports Champions yesterday. For a while. Fucking Gladiator game killed me with two Moves. :lol
 
People saying that the Wii Motion Plus is able to replicate what Sports Champions does are insane or haven't put enough time into it. The game's mechanics use depth (front to back) and side to side movements. Essentially, 3D space tracking is a requirement of Sports Champions table tennis and is where the true magic lies. Being able to manipulate and fine tune your shots.

I seriously haven't had this much fun with a sports game in a long, long time. Playing table tennis is like the real thing, it takes a while to get used to playing motion games that aren't a simple flick of the wrist approximation, but once you put in a few hours with it you become an expert at fine tuning your shots and the general mechanics of the game it's like poetry in motion. It plays EXACTLY like the real thing, which is simply incredible to me. On the harder AI difficulities it really gets challenging and rewarding with these back and forth matches that go on for a long time.

I am incredibly impressed with this game. It's a gigantic step up from WMP.

Calibration really isn't an issue at all. It never happens during a game itself, it's just a one time deal before you play a certain sports. WMP was much more annoying, constant calibration issued mid-game. Seemed to happen very frequently.

I don't know. I don't think WM+ positional and spatial awareness is robust enough to replicate what SC is doing. It's not designed to really give that info, at least beyond a couple of seconds of tracking.

Also, compared to something like WSR, I'm not sure I understand complaints about calibration too much. I only have the SC demo, but as far as I can tell the calibration is simple, fast, and most importantly - not intrusive on gameplay at all. I don't think it ever pauses to ask you to recalibrate (?) With WSR calibration was pretty spontaneous and more intrusive.

Yeah, the reticule can apparently appear and not appear in the menus in The Shoot rather randomly, apparently, which seems like a bug. But I'm glad things are better now. Yes, the XMB nav is a bit all over the place :lol Something more pointer-y would be better probably.
 
hmmm, all of these calibration issues are a bit disconcerting. I also had some issues with SC this afternoon with the archery, i would draw the arrow back and the bow would suddenly jump over to the extreme left or right. i had to turn the game off after a couple of re-calibrations. i still don't know why it was happening (the room was reasonably bright but nothing extreme). and there was one or two issues last night too.

If we're struggling (neogaffers) what chance does the average Joe have? I hope this doesn't become an issue with move...
 
Does anyone know how many of the games out now take advantage of having two move controllers for a single player input control? It seems like Sports Champions supports it, does anything else?
