Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

Thanks.

Sounds good. Wish they would update a few older PS3 games (uncharted, Resistance etc.) as well...

Can't aim with dual analog anymore, it feels just so tedious and opposite of fun.

Had a couple of my friends over this weekend that think the whole motion controller era that were starting is terrible and pointless for gaming and watched them lose their minds at the precision of tumble and sports champions. Especially entertaining was watching them do the archery cup with two controllers for the first time.

Downloading the Heavy Rain Move patch now. Going to take an hour but I already know it'll be worth it. :) Will be playing Heavy Rain with move, and for the first time!

Hmm...

Ok, I took the Move over to a house warming party the other night.

Wow...people seemed to be confused as to how to use it. After a bit of fun, they got bored by it pretty quickly (sports champion).

Doesn't seem to have that 'wow' factor that the Wii had back in the day or the hook that Kinect has right now.

It was kinda awkward trying to keep the move in the camera's view in the living room as well. Not sure if Kinect would be ideal wither, but I can see now how Wii's small gestures could come in handy.

Hopefully, Sony really pushes that 'realism' angle they got going for them. I don't really see casuals pursuing the move after what I saw last night.

When it asks me to point the controller at the camera to calibrate do I have to try and be accurate with my pointing, or should I just point in the cameras general direction?

I've had an awesome Sports Champions party around Disc Golf and Archery
/personal anecdote.

Move is great, I absolutely can't wait for Virtua Tennis. When is it coming?

With the move and casuals, really think it's a "been here, done that" type of thing as many got similar experiences with the Wii already years ago.

i see this as a good thing. it should push nintendo/sony/microsoft to make more interesting games because these wii sports games have gotten old ages ago. we need something more refreshing and deep with these motion controls.

Put it in the place you are going to handle it while playing, pointing with the ball to the camera. In my case, it is resting the arm in the sofa.

When it asks to point to some targets to calibrate in some games, I also do it in the same way. I have my arm resting in the sofa and I point "from the hip" just moving it just a centimeter or two.

This is the best way I found.

Start the Party is a much better game to show casual people some of the cool things move can do. Plus it has a much bigger "wow" factor for casuals.

This. Augmented reality is something that the Wii can't do. Watching them hold a virtual item in their hand will blow their minds.

Yeah I love the tech but software is really lacking, imo (especially for casuals). SC is no Wii Sports that's for sure as hell.

That said I was playing some more RE5 today, Move actually makes it bearable to play (though only just). Can't wait to get my teeth into some games that I actually want to play like Killzone 3. I don't know why they don't just patch into Uncharted or something, that would be awesome.

At first glance it's not different enough to people that have seen the Wii.
That said for newcomers it seems to work just the same - I showed it to my parents the other day (well, only table tennis, really), and my father started talking about buying a PS3. His only time playing a game to date was ~25 years ago on my brother's Spectrum... it's actually the first time I've seen this "motion" phenomenon in person, though probably that's because I was in Korea until this year and Wii craze never really happened there.

Someone please make an official thread because this is too awesome

I remember hearing this might happen, SO HAPPY right now :D

everyone should try the demo on their website....sure it looks simple at first, but then you get hooked...and that was just in black and white....playing this in HD, with I'm sure great sound....can't wait... wish I had a 3DTV though :(

PS Move/Dance functionality will be available for all SingStar titles as a free add-on from the SingStore on November 17. The update will also include the first twelve dance-upgradable SingStore songs. (Source)

I actually had a get together at our house this past weekend and I got the opposite reaction.

People would not stop playing the Gladiator game. Some were gamers with Wiis, some were people who never play games on any platform but maybe their cell phones.

After about two hours of taking turns and smashing each other, they were all exhausted and too tired to raise their arms anymore and they asked what else I have. So I switched it to Bocce and we played for two more hours because its far more relaxed.

One point everyone agreed on was how weird the characters were. And the whole night the games were between "the douches" Connor and Dallas.

Several Wii gamers said this is what Wii should look like or that the Move should have come out with the PS3 a launch. They really appreciated the high end graphics coupled with the motion fun. A couple of people asked how its different from Wii and I showed them Tumble and the demo for Start the Party and they understood instantly. They were sort of amazed at Tumble.

Overall, the feedback was very positive and I was surprised, I thought they would be far more blah about it. They also insisted I unlock more characters and stuff by the time they come back this upcoming weekend for our pre-Thanksgiving celebration.

I am half thinking of buying the unlock key. Can anyone tell me what it unlocks? A breakdown of the stuff?

Right. But what are those? How many characters and what are they? What accessories for which games?

I know for table tennis you unlock a tennis racket and move controller as your paddle, and two characters you unlock is the challenge robot in tennis and Greg, the Dural looking guy in the warning prompts.

Just ordered The Shoot and Start the Party from Amazon, using some credit I had and taking advantage of the "Buy 1 get 40% another" deal they have going now.

Gotta get stocked up on multiplayer games for Thanksgiving at my house!

Acid test with a casual is not going well :(

His exact phrases he's used so far are: "this is shit. This is shit. This is way off. Im not enjoying my self."

He just can't get ot to calibrate properly. So far he's playing time crisis.

e: more qoutes.
"it's really uncomfortable"
"that's better!"
"see it's working now".

:)) he's finally calibrated it right. Lets see if he carries on enjoying it now...

I had Sports Champs and The Shoot out for a gathering the oher day and it was a hit, but people did think the controller looked odd.

Can't wait for Auditorium next week!

I played a little with my girlfriend who's a non-gamer. She was impressed by some of the stuff like Eyepet, the face scanning in TV stars, and Tumble. Part of the problem is that it's a little overwhelming at first for some people, all of the calibration and stuff was frustrating for her. She played some Sports Champions and it was tough at first, it's easy not like Wii Sports and it's gesture based moves, but once she got a hang of how it works she really liked the Table Tennis.

it's no surprise that Move hasn't and most likely won't catch on with an expanded audience, but for me personally, it's exactly what I want out of a motion controller. It's far more accurate than the alternatives which is important to me and it can do some unique stuff thanks to the Eye Toy, and most importantly it will work as a hybrid controller with the genres that I care about.

Has someone already listed Move games coming in the next 3 months? I can think of:

PSN: Auditorium + 3 Gameloft games
Killzone 3
Little Big Planet 2
Virtua Tennis
Beat Sketcher
Socom 4

Pretty cool already and I'm sure I'm missing some.

One thing I don't get with Sony is why title like Sports Championship isn't allowing Home Avatar imports - it should be enforced by default if you insist on "realistic" character art for these types of games, and really while I am no fan of any of these designs, at least it would allow for some creativity with how you look in the game AND give their social platform more reasons to exist.

Of course it should also work online, but that's another issue...

Yeah, Dead Space 2 Move support would be fuckin awesome but I'm not getting excited until it's confirmed

Move support + Extraction makes for a pretty sweet deal

Yeah, this is Sony. I love my PS3, but synergy (especially regarding Home and anything else) is not one of their strong points.

Not really, since the orb isnt used for pointng :)

what would pink be? healthy?

I like to play scary games with lights off and something about the glowing pink orb could detract from the atmosphere

just kidding though, I love the lights and there is a ton of cool stuff to be done with this thing

I know they never caught on but I would give my left testicle for Sackboy Sports. I'm having a good time with Sports Champs but the no. 1 thing it lacks is personality but if it had LBP style and Sackboys (with costumes and everything) it would take it to the next level.

I don't necessarily want them super realistic. I was hoping for maybe other games' characters, or at least more varied personalities/looks. All we get is several giant macho men, and several big boob females.

That said, Home import may be fun. So could be Sackboys, god knows I have dozens of outfits for them and most everyone at the party has a custom sackboy outfit on my system from LBP nights. So could be Nate , Helena, Kratos, Sly Cooper, Hale, Cole, Ratchet, Clank and so forth.

One thing I did notice in Gladiator mode while watcing others, the orb turns red when you get hit. Only for a split second.

The #1 thing it lacks is online, who the fuck cares what your characters look like. I want to play against real people over the internets.

So Sony's own franchise characters in a motion game?.....besides Heros on the Move, and FU to who ever changed the title.

but PlayStation Sports Champions 2

Kratos vs Snake in ping pong with all their mannerisms.

Nate vs Logan in disc golf

Zeus vs Visari in Bocce Throw

Sweetooth in anything.

and of course everyone in Gladiator Sport....maybe an advanced one where you can motion projectiles...

yeah stupid concept, but hey add online, and it might sell well.

but seriously, I don't know why they wouldn't release DLC for their current game, of these various playable Characters like they did with Uncharted 2. The Player Models of Sports Champions are already pretty detailed...I'm sure they could do these other characters justice....recreating Kratos might be the hardest though :D

Finished RE5 for the first time and played the whole game with Move. I then played with the DS3 a bit.

Move impressions
(+RE5 rant)
:

+ you don't have to ready the knife.
(-) Though I didn't like that it basically activates the knife anytime you move/turn the controller and it's also not even recognizing a specific motion.

+ reloading via motion is neat
(-) but as you can only do it while aiming so your cursor is bouncing around.

+ biggest plus for me: aiming feels good, does not use the sphere at all (which stays pink the whole time.. see above, could be used for health, warning about partner etc.). Controls&button layout feel more natural than with the DS3.
(-) camera slightly moves which can fuck up your long distant aim (same with the DS3 though here you don't have to keep your hand steady as well)

- while aiming, you have to turn with the left analog stick. They should have used a bounding box for Move. This is the same with a normal controller though, side affect is also that you have to let the left stick go before you aim, otherwise you will aim upwards.

- you can't strafe with the Move controls (normal controls: left stick) or look up/down while running (normally: right stick). I often wished I could look around with the Move controller while running.
(+) Though as you only need it for aiming (and w/o the cam), the controller's current position doesn't matter as the starting point is set every time you aim.
+ Also, moving around with just one analog sticks feels better (they basically now mixed the functions of the two sticks into one but with the restrictions mentioned above). I use control scheme B (running on L1).

+/- some QTEs (like getting gabbed by an enemy) require you to do motions which seem to only be recognized if you do them really fast and full-on. For my taste it's too overdone and I even died at one scene because I was more casually swinging the controller (but in time) instead of swinging it around like crazy.

- you get a giant green reticle on the screen, I would at least like an option to change it back to the laser pointer.
+/- the reticle turns red (and Move rumbles) whenever you aim at a physical object/living thing/item (sometimes even behind stuff). Helpful, but I think in some few cases it spoiled situations that require you to find out what to shoot at.

(-) I would like to switch to Move button = ready weapon, T = shooting. On the other hand it didn't really matter in the end and you would then have to use the T button for contextual actions (to not accidentally activate them instead of readying your weapon)

- the biggest one for me:
every weapon with a zoom etc. like rifles are controlled with the left stick instead of aiming with the Move. That's inexcusable and annoying. It even had the side effect that I sometimes forgot to aim with the Move while using other weapons. I would then just aim with the left stick (which actually works...) while unintentionally holding the Move still.

So overall it's kinda a shitty control scheme, though mostly due to the shitty controls&gameplay of the original game. As we all know, you can't move while you aim.
Actual aiming works well (fast&precise), but coming from MAG this was a really disappointing execution, especially after hearing all the praise for the RE4 Wii version that features the same control scheme.
I guess Move made the game a little more fun overall, but certainly I imagine TPSs to play completely different with motion controls *fingers crossed for DS2 and U3*

Though it also didn't help that RE5 is a shitty game in many aspects (though somehow it still keeps you going and I even want to grind money now) and that I had to play some chapters with the NPC-coop which is SOOOOOOOO annoying. Feels also way too oldschool with its excessive use of invisible walls and not technically impressive either (but yes, graphics are still ok...).

The ball changes to a certain colour so it would stand out the most. If you have a sky blue painted room, it won't change to that colour to be as outstanding as possible.

I thought that, too, but there are games that use the camera for tracking and the sphere can have specific colors or even change the color during gameplay.
e.g. in MAG the sphere is either set to orange, blue or green depending on your faction and that doesn't change how good it is tracked in your room.

looks more to me like pink is the standard setting of the sphere (probably for the reason you mentioned though)
