PlayStation Plus IGC reception on YouTube

I definitely don't disagree in principle. While I do think there has been a decline in quality over the years, I don't think it's that dire - most of the games are still passably decent, with a great one every now and then. But there are definitely some titles like Infamous, Killzone, Knack, etc that they could throw in now and then for some variety and for the perception of value.

Uncharted, Bloodborne and Witcher III are not reasonable to expect any time very soon, but in the past something like one of those would probably be on the menu sometime about a year from now. I almost guarantee that won't be the case in the future however.

Right. I haven't seen Sony's plan for PS+ IGC, have you? Because maybe they have a strict plan in place. Maybe the plan is a remnant of the old PS before the SIE. Maybe there is a new plan, I dunno. Maybe they hope to drop the price of inFamous that more people will buy it instead of giving it away. I don't know, but you keep saying quality as if the games are horrible and play awful.

You fail to understand that the people complaining were likely subbed to Plus back in it's prime. They aren't new, and I find it baffling that we have unpaid corporate apologists on this site. So what if people want better quality and more value? Why is there an opposition group? These people commenting are subbed and paying just like anyone else, people who can't see the decline in quality are the same people who wouldn't notice if Sony started putting flash games on the service, and would attempt to defend it.

I get that. I subbed back when IGC was a huge collection with BLands and BLands 2. But then it changed. Now the service is required to play online ala XBL. GWG wasn't exactly awesome when it first got started.

There is an opposition group because people are clamoring for worse games(Killzone, Knack) just because they came in a box and I don't want that.

The only metric Sony cares about is the unsubscribe rate, I imagine they aren't worried at all. People mad that they fell for an obvious trojan horse and now feel trapped.

Like I said, loud minority. The people who don't like smaller budget games are actively getting louder and louder each month so they simply vote more than normal people. Each new monthly line-up fuels their rage more.

I mean, looking at comments on the PS Blog you'd also find the Vita is many times more popular than the PS4. It's just comments on the internet, it's a worthless metric.

I'm afraid I don't see this changing anytime soon. Perhaps these people won't get a PS5 and we'll be rid of that then.

Completely agree here. It's no mystery that there are pathetic people out there like that.
What you mention about the Vita comments on the blog is especially true. It's a bunch of obnoxious people trying to see who can scream the loudest. I really don't think any offering will make them satisfied. They are pretty much doing it just to try and establish or enforce some narrative.

This really isn't true. We are still getting about as much value for our money as we ever were. It just so happens that those games are 15-20€ indie games that we often get on the day of release or pretty soon after and not late generation AAA games that have seen their price dropped to 10-20€ because of stricter competition & diminishing sales by the time they hit PS+ 8-18+ months after release.

A game like Rocket League being part of PS+ at release probably saved gamers more money than Bioshock Infinite being made availalbe on PS3 less than a year after its release, yet some people think BI was a more worthy addition to IGC than Rocket League just because RL is an indie game.
No, I would say the value has dropped, we were getting retail games a year or two after release when they would be selling for 20 - 40 on Amazon, and the games people seem to want are around 20 on Amazon, most of the games we get not are 15 bucks and under.

There is an opposition group because people are clamoring for worse games(Killzone, Knack) just because they came in a box and I don't want that.
Not the same people, and really Killzone and knack are not much better than some of the games we have on plus currently. Some want these games to be cleared away so that better AAA can be given out too.

If you're used to getting quality retail games, why wouldn't you expect some people to be upset at the obvious change in IGC output, indie games aren't for some people.

As an aside, looking at amazon most of the AAA games people expected by now are around 20 bucks.

If you are paying $20 for Black Flag, Killzone, or Knack then you overpaid. I can't get Galak-Z for $10, But I can for any of those others.

There'd maybe be less anger if people didn't have to pay to play online and could choose not to pay for PS+ games without losing such a core function of the console and the online games they own.

I know I'd be happy to pay $10 a year only for online, and I actually like indie games... so much so that I probably already bought them and would rather buy them anyway.

Glad to see that someone took the time to look at some data and see what has been obvious from PS+ threads over the last two years - less and less people are happy with PS+. As someone who signed up back in 2011 for free games, I think it's shocking what happened to it and have let my sub finally lapse. The first way that it has disimproved is no longer getting the quality of game we used to. The second way is enforcing 'paid multiplayer', which is a massive step back from the PS3.

And yet here we are seeing the same shitty arguments we've seen these unpaid shills roll out again and again for at least a year.

The games are free! Beggars (fucking LOL) can't be choosers!

The games are not free. It's a paid service and Sony is obliged to deliver the games. Many of us signed up when all that ps+ was was free games. It's not a bonus - it's what we pay for.

Some people will always complain!

The entire point the OP makes is that the ratio of complaints vs praise has swung heavily in a negative direction. Back in 2010-2013 PS+ had an insane approval rating. The service itself was helping sell PS3s and Vitas. I bought a Vita just because of plus. Now, as the graph shows, approval is hitting rock bottom after a steady decline. Obviously people who weren't complaining for the longest time are complaining now.

Just unsub!

Would be a great option if cloud saves and multiplayer weren't attached, which was a massive bait and switch pulled when the XB1's negative launch gave Sony enough goodwill to do it. PS+ has turned out to be what many people were laughed at for suggesting it was created to be from the start - a trojan horse for paid online. I laughed. I feel stupid now.

You have shitty taste in games!

Again, this data is a large chunk of Sony's polled audience. Lots of different people included. Maybe you want to argue that they ALL have shitty taste in games. I'd argue that it would be wiser for Sony to start providing games that their fans actually like.

It's still good value!

There are still some gems!

As far as I'm concerned these two remain true. The rest are bullshit.

Not the same people, and really Killzone and knack are not much better than some of the games we have on plus currently. Some want these games to be cleared away so that better AAA can be given out too.

I can honestly see them trying to wait on Releasing Killzone PS4 on PSPlus until Horizon comes out. Just a little pub for the devs with their big new IP releasing.

Quality of the PS+ free games offering has dropped a lot compared to the peak of the PS3 days. It's useless to deny it.
You can have all the fun you want with small indie games but they have not the same production values of big retail titles. Initially with the launch of a new console they were justified because they had to build a decent lineup first but now...pretty much no.
The problem is that PS+ is now required to play online so in a way or the other you're gonna pay for it.
I don't think Sony will care about negative votes either, they're only looking at the amount of subscriptions they get and so far they're only growing.

I'd say of the PS+ games over the past 2-3 years, 70% of them have been between average and rubbish.
And that is simply bullshit. If we look at the last 2 or so years, there have been plenty of games that are top tier or at least great entries in their respective genres (Grim Fandango, Guacamelee, Rocket League, Styx, Helldivers, Resogun, Beyond Good & Evil, Dishonored, Yakuza 4, Killzone Mercenaries and many more I don't remember at the moment), and even more games that while not top tier can still be good/really fun (Broforce, Strider, Walking Dead S2, SSX, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Puppeteer, Mass Effect 2 & 3, God of War: Ascension, Magicka 2, Freedom Wars, PayDay 2 etc.), so many that they make up far more than 30% of the IGC offerings.

No, some of us actually enjoy a wide variety of games and don't base our judgment of a game's quality on its budget like people like you do.

Conclusion: people want retail games

People want games they have already heard about and thinking of purchasing.

That's exactly the opposite of what Sony wants to give you. They want to give you something to tell your friends about to drive more sales. People still like indie games as long as they've heard about it before.

Most of the titles given away in IGC are throwaway titles with not much marketing push so people's immediate reaction is what the hell is this?

Clearly not the majority judging by all the data, besides budget has little to do with it. Journey and The Walking Dead and Rocket League are loved by almost everyone.

There is an opposition group because people are clamoring for worse games(Killzone, Knack) just because they came in a box and I don't want that.

No they aren't. People are not dissatisfied because they didn't get those two games. Most people who post about Knack are joking and for those who aren't joking, so what? What is wrong with wanting Knack? Do you think the quality of that game is beneath PS+?
Why is liking AAA games frowned upon by some anyway?
Hipsters.

That would be bad publicity.

Well, it is pretty, and the multiplayer was awesome. And it seems that people have been begging for it for years no as a Plus title. It isn't going to hurt publicity wise. I think people forget that Killzone wasn't critically panned. It was a solid launch game that many gamers, and even reviewers, enjoyed.

Most of them are either children or people trying to get a chance to smugly say "I'm cancelling my subscription." Whatever. They're free games (or $1-2k worth of games for $60/year) take what you can get. It's this entitled nature that makes gamers look bad.

I love these posts. Dismiss everyone that doesn't share your opinion as "children", and calling the games "free" in one paragraph. Troll.

If Sony is going to spend this money that I'm forced to pay them for online play, then I'd rather them spend it on stuff like Shenmue 3 and Last Guardian and to play moneyball with Microsoft so that I'm not sitting here watching everything become an X1 exclusive, than on having "an unprecedented partnership" with AAA publishers to bring Gamestop sticker collectors like Assassin's Creed '13 and Watchdogs... and off principal I'd rather indie developers get that crucial economic assistance in the form of a wholesale buy, personally.

Well out of date first party games like Killzone and Knack shouldn't cost them anything, though. There's only so many now irrelevant non-sellers, though... next would be Order 1886, but they'd have to space it out, and people would expect it every month, probably get even more angry, and then want Bloodborne.

  • Rude and insulting? Check.
  • Propogating the debunked myth of PS+ games being free? Check.
  • Calling dissatisfied customers entitled while defending faceless corporation? Check.
Please leave this thread. This is the worst kind of shit-posting. We've had more than enough of this already.

I wasn't shitposting... nor did I outright say the games were free. And seriously, is this really worth getting mad over?

The thing that really grinds my gears is indies on the PS3 when there are so many great retail games to choose from. Persona 4 Arena making it to PS+ last month was probably the greatest thing to happen all year for me (wrt PS+).

But where is Dead Space? Where is Tekken Tag Tournament 2? Where is Steins;Gate? Where is Beyond Two Souls? The Tales of games? God of War 3? Okami HD? L.A. Noire? Dark Souls? Max Payne 3? Valkyria Chronicles? Ni no Kuni? etc, etc, etc.
We actually got Okami HD back in April 2013. And for some strange reason is Valkyria Chronicles not available digitally.
But I totally agree that the PS3 offerings have extremely tanked. Stardust HD and Last Guy are almost embarrassing to offer.

If the internet has taught me anything, it's that ppl will complain about ANYTHING. Even if we were given alien isolation + evil within one month, people will be like "fuck, I can't play horror games, too scary. Fucking shit month, can't even play these games!!@#"
lol

I'm looking through my PS4 and Vita Plus games over the last two years and seeing what I actually liked:

King's Quest
Never Alone
Counterspy
Luftrausers
Rocket League
Hotline Miami

I mean I guess that's not that bad. It's not good either

And this is why people are mad with PS+
It used to have these AAA games.
People tend to get mad when you take away stuff that you used to consistently offer.

100% this. They don't need to give out MGS5 one month, Bloodborne the next, but they should at least throw a couple retail titles out there. If PS+ wasn't required for MP I would just let mine expire.

People are complaining about complaining. "omg can't you entitled shits be satisfied with ANYTHING?!!@3$%#"

Negative people are often the loudest & most active to make their voices heard. People who are perfectly satisfied with the games that PS+ has continued offering don't really give a shit about going to vote down youtube vids or giving low ratings to PS Blog posts. I mean, in the last year I've enjoyed Transistor, Rocket League, Grim Fandango, Stealth 2, La Mulana, Grow Home, Super Time Force, Broken Age, Chariot, inFamous First Light, OlliOlli 2, Valiant Hearts, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, Freedom Wars, Guacamelee (again), Styx and probably a couple of other games I'm forgetting right now. And I would have enjoyed SSX, Beyond Good & Evil HD, Dragon Age: Origins, Killzone Mercenary and other slightly older games had I not played them already prior to them being added to PS+ in the last year.

You can't make any kind of serious argument that that is somehow an extremely weak line-up of games to get withing a 12 month period. Those are some quality games, some are even some of the best games the genre has to offer or at least near a top 10. Others aren't perhaps genre topping games, but can still be good fun & perfectly good choices for PS+ offerings.

Please consider letting it expire if you are not too into MP. I really hate that plus it linked to MP, it should be separated so that the cost of both plus and online mutilplayer can go down. Sony will just take the data that since not too many people cancel their subs and come to the conclusion that hey we can just continue to give out sub quality games.

People tend to point out that PS3 had been put for many years before the IGC happened so that's why the PS4 hasn't got the great offerings the PS3 had yet... the counter argument is PS3 would offer AAA games that were only a few years old, so PS4 is now on the position to provide games of a similar age...

I think it boils down to sequels too. We used to get PS3 games on PS+ when their sequel was about to drop. Tomb Raider DE would be great when ROTTR comes to PS4, Dark Souls 2 should be there ahead of Dark Souls 3, last years Pro Evo would be nice when the sequel drops. This is how I think it should work because it worked in a similar way on PS3.

That was only for PAL. I just went and bought it since I know it will never come since they've unified NA and PAL. I didn't know about Valkyrie Chronicles though.
