Introducing Team Asobi, creators of the Astro Bot series

Following the release of Astro’s Playroom for PlayStation 5, Team Asobi is now spreading its wings and growing bigger! This is a very exciting time for the team, and we are very much looking forward to this next chapter. We wanted to take this chance to thank all of you, the PlayStation fans, for your kind words of support over the years, especially since Astro made its big debut on PlayStation 5 alongside the DualSense wireless controller.

Rumour: The Last of Us Remaster (PS5)

The team (Visual Arts Service Group) began working on a remake of the 2013 hit The Last of Us for the PlayStation 5. But Sony never fully acknowledged the team’s existence or gave them the funding and support needed to succeed in the highly competitive video game market, according to people involved. The studio never even got its own name. Instead, Sony moved ownership of the The Last of Us remake to its original creator, Naughty Dog, a Sony-owned studio behind many of the company’s best-selling games and an HBO television series in development.

I say to some degree because people seem to think this will basically just be in the vein of The Last of Us: Remastered. Let's not blow expectations out of the water by hyping it up too much, but this won't be a "simple" improvement of resolution, framerate and textures. The kennel is going to really take advantage of PlayStation 5's power and features with the The Last of Us: Part II engine. Not just in terms of graphics, but a few other things as well.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake is the legendary tale remade on PlayStation 5

A pinnacle of Star Wars Legends storytelling, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is set over 4,000 years before the events of the original trilogy and introduced a new story of new heroes and villains in an epic struggle for the fate of the galaxy. The team here at Aspyr and Sony Interactive Entertainment have joined forces with Lucasfilm Games to bring you a remake of this classic Star Wars adventure. We’re rebuilding one of the greatest RPGs of all time for a new generation with modern tech, features, visuals and more, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters that we’ve come to cherish.

And it’s a console exclusive on PlayStation 5 at launch.

If you’re not familiar with “KOTOR” — as you’ll see fans lovingly refer to it — then you’re in for a treat. The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a truly groundbreaking achievement: an award-winning RPG of incredible scope, immersion, and ambition with an epic narrative to match. A diverse cast of characters to meet, multiple planets to discover, challenging battles to fight, and cinematic storytelling that responds to the choices you make — it’s no wonder that to this day KOTOR remains one of the most celebrated video games ever made.

PlayStation and Firewalk Studios announce publishing partnership for a new, original multiplayer IP

Today, we’re thrilled to announce a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment for our new, original multiplayer game. For our team, the opportunity to create new worlds and inspire more amazing moments for players around the world is the fire and ambition that keeps us going. The PlayStation team has a deep love and respect for the medium of games, and some of the best expertise and capabilities in the world to help make big ambitions a reality.

Introducing Haven, a new Montreal-based independent studio

And so today I’m announcing Haven, an independent studio where many of the talented game developers I have worked with for years (and love dearly!) are coming together to do what we are most passionate about. It’s time for us to refocus on GAMES in a place where we can practice our crafts without any barriers or impediments. We want to create worlds where players can escape, have fun, express themselves, and find community. We want to pour our passion into a project. We want to make something wondrous for people to experience. Because we believe in the power of games to bring joy to people’s lives. And Sony does, too. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched. It’s why I couldn’t be happier for their backing and support.

Together, we want to create games that are a haven for players, and we want to build a studio that is a haven for developers. So, while we don’t have many details to announce today, I want the PlayStation community to know that Haven Studios is already hard at work on an unannounced IP. We can’t wait to show you more!

Leave your feedback, this is very much a WIP.
(I was surprised by the amount of studios we don't know much about)

The aim was to keep it slim for easy scrolling, I may edit this post later for third party exclusives.
Cool idea.

So first, PlayStation Studios =/= 3rd party exclusives. If Sony is the publisher, its 1st party.

And the thread title should say "PlayStation" ... not "Playstation".. CMON BRO LOL

- San Diego Studio are making MLB The Show 22. And only MLB, every year, forever.
- Naughty Dog are doing the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection for PS5 and PC, that's announced.
- Add Haven Studios, Deviation Games, Firewalk Studios, and Aspyr Media. All 4 are doing 1st party games.
- Sucker Punch aren't making 2 games and we have no idea what their next game is.
- Media Molecule are still working on Dreams and have publicly said they are working on bringing it to PS5.
- Firesprite have publicly said they have 2 games in development.
- Nixxes are a support studio, they don't make their own games. No reason to include them.
- XDEV are a support studio, they don't make their own games. No reason to include them.

I would have the second post being playstation published games not necessarily console exclusives but do like the thread point.

Hopefully it doesn't turn into a list war.

Woah that TBA game must be huge if so many devs are working on it
Maybe it's just a code name? I actually think it's probably hinting at the word "BAT" and every studio in PlayStation is now creating different Batman games. Well, every studio apart from Polyphony and perhaps ironically, Insomniac. So that's 15 different Batman games in production in PlayStation and very likely not a single one of them will feature the Adam West Batman.

And here's a header/banner image if you want to use it:

-Have updated San Diego.
-Have updated Naughty Dog
-I'll add these into the second section once I get around to that.
-I thought Ghost of Ike was confirmed?
-Have updated MM
-Have updated Firesprite
-Are we sure Nixxes is support only?
-Have removed XDEV
-Added banner too, it's not quite as long as the other images so if it looks off we could always try find something better.

bitbydeath bitbydeath you should put one more TBA on Insomniac, Media Molecule and Naughty Dog, as all those studios are also working on undisclosed projects on top of those that we already know of.

Starting to wonder if I should just make it confirmed games only in the OP...
It doesn't hurt to add them but does it provide much value having so many TBA's when some might be staying in pre-production until their other projects are completed?

What's everyone think?

I would say to leave the ones where we know for sure that they are working on something, either because they have no games announced at all or because they confirmed to be working on other unannounced projects (e.g. Cory's game).

Hmmmm, interesting question.

I agree in that the banners could easily get into a TBA fest considering how several studios are tackling two, three or even four/five projects at the same time... so I don't know what would be the best decision given this scenario 🤔

I’m leaning towards without as it would cut into actual image real estate.

I've been considering adding Spoiler sections for more details beneath each, just wanted to start with it being as clean as possible.
Or maybe making the images clickable links would be better?

I think spoiler sections would work better IMO so we can prevent accidentally click on the images.

Yeah, I think that without the TBAs it would be the best approach.

All the unannounced projects would get to be discussed and speculated in the thread itself, so I don't think that there's too much of a need for having tens of TBAs in the OP.

I’ll test out some spoiler tags beneath them and can put that info there.

Personally I always thought the 3 or so exclusives a year they released for PS4 wasn't enough: I think 5 is a better number. That would work out at one every couple of months of the year, and then leave Xmas free for the big third party games.

If we take the 16 studios they have now, and then add a couple more for Inomniac's and Firesprite's second teams, and then probably another one for what everyone thinks is a Guerrilla second team, and finally another one for Naughty Dog, given their size and efficiency, then they've just about got 20 teams working on different stuff.

Then if you assume 4 years on average to make a game, that comes to 5 games a year. Not bad at all.

If you add in the 3rd party deals, it's clear they're going to have a pretty stellar line up of exclusives for the foreseeable future.

I've now updated a few, removing the TBA's after already announced titles.
Those can continue within Spoiler sections which I'll test out later.

A lot of multiplayer and Marvel titles are in the horizon of which i don't care at all but hopefully they have enough content cooking for those of us who like unique single player content.

I've added a bunch of empty Spoiler tags under each Studio to get a feel of what it'd be like. (Sorry TBiddy TBiddy hope this doesn't take up much more space)
The only other option would be to add Spoiler tags into post 2 or even at the very end of post 1 but then it may feel a bit disjointed.

Edit: Not as clean on mobile. What does everyone else think?

Keep in mind they have 25 games in development and we know less than 10 of them.
I doubt it will change my mind. I've always been more hyped over their Japanese exclusives. I pay attention to the Sony first party stuff just for fun even though I do buy and play some of them.

I've updated post two with the four studios and added an alternate Spoiler section for how the top could also work if we want the images to stay in a row without the incumbence of spoiler tags in between.
Let me know if anyone has any preference on the layout for these.

I think you should keep it 💪Some people don't know how many projects Sony really has in development

I've added some links (up to Guerrilla Games) and for the listed third party collaborations.

EDIT: Still trying to work out where to incorporate the above images...

The location map pics? Don't bother trying to add them to the OP.

Not really important, just wanted to post them in case some people wonder "where are the studios located?"
