PlayStation Vita Games Line Up with videos

Am I the only one who doesn't really "get" the whole "console experience" thing people keep using against the PSP and, now, the Vita?

Like, once you have sleep mode on a handheld anything becomes a "handheld experience" that you can just pick up and play whenever. I mean, I understand the difference between a 'real' pick-up-and-play game and something more full-fledged, but do people really want handheld gaming to be entirely constrained to the former?

Not to mention that it's not like we'd have seen these exact "console experience" games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the PS3 if the Vita was confined to only having "handheld experience" games (whatever that means). They exist to begin with because there is a handheld platform available to put them on.

Gotta say the lineup is very similar in scope to the 3DS one.

Lots of promising 1st party titles (that will take a while until release), but lack of 3rd party ones (mostly ports).

So what's the guess on the average retail price in the U.S.? I planning my gaming budget for the year and I want to know what I can buy. Right now I'm assuming Vita games will be going for $50. Just to be extra careful.

I really hope Nihilistic do something different with Burning Skies. We don't really know much about the story yet, other than it's set between 2 and 3, but from the gameplay vids it just looks like any other standard FPS. Personally, I'd love to see something a lot less linear. A small-ish open world, Falling Skies inspired Resistance game would be fantastic imo.

Just finished watching these damn, Uncharted and Gravity Daze look insane. I strongly suggest other folks to check out these videos, they are the best quality hands on video with direct feed sound

Not much you can do with a FPS,but the controls make it more interesting.

Not sure why they don't move the grenade aiming in Resistance to the back panel. It seems like you're encouraged to take your right hand off the stick/buttons anyway when using it on the front touch. Could clean off those icons from the right that way too.

If that's all Nihilistic are bringing to the table, the novelty of playing an FPS on a handheld will wear off quickly.

Resistance looks very nice. Demo goes further than on Sony pressconf, and firefights in Uncharted look SOOOO NICE.
Yeah the Resistance gameplay looks good.

Huh? you really think something like COD is goign to be different?Like I said not sure what you expect out of a FPS.They have unique weapons that upgrade and some nice controls for what I read of the previews.

Resistance could be cool but the bad frame rate kills it for me. Get ICE team to optimize that shit. :I
Well it is a 2012 game, and Uncharted did have framerate issues as well in the start.

Well, to be fair, the Uncharted seems to be running at something like 25FPS, though and though. Almost as if it's locked at slightly sub 30. That's mu only complaint about the game visually.

Resistance supposed to also have multiplayer as shown in the online features trailer. However I don't have faith in that game, but lets hope the developer surprises me. I know I'm going to check out Resistance Retribution on Vita with backwards compatiblity, still haven't played that game, it is made by Bend so it must be good.

Being able to pick exact targets quickly with the touch screen looks excellent, way better than moving a reticle around. Should be even better if assigned to the back touch pad.

When is CoD ever different? What I want out of an FPS is something other than just a straight up corridor shooter. Sure, the weapons are always fun, that's to be expected in a Resistance game, but I'd also like to see something a bit more open. Like I said though, we've only seen a small part Burning Skies so I'm probably passing judgement a bit early.

Is this old? It was in the Vita newsletter I received a few minutes ago, hadn't seen it before.

Vita trophy comparing interface.

That looks pretty snazzy, especially compared to what it is now. I haven't seen it before.

Have they said how trophies will work for games available on both PS3 / Vita? Are games like Dragon's Crown / Ruin 2 different trophy sets or are the two just under one thing.

It's true... I can see it in the video, and it's unfortunately confirmed by the biggest framerate freak I know, who's seen the game just now at Gamescom. I really hope they improve it just so slightly. It really seems like a shame to be that close but not hit 30.

Very nice. After hearing some of the network features, I was hoping they would have something like this.

I also hope that you can select an individual game, and compare your trophies on that game with several of your friends at once. This is a feature that's available on the PlayStation.com Web site, but not on the PlayStation 3.

Also, what's the "Vita newsletter" that you're referring to?

Somebody else is going to have to do it because mine is completely in Finnish.

edit: thanks gofreak. :)

Some people have the impression that the only games suited for handhelds are those you can play and forget, or only limited short bursts at a time.

I look for more, because when I travel I spend enough time in transit or in an excluded place, makes the investment of time and emotion worth it.

They way I see it, is that these consoles are vehicles and they are offering multiple experiences. If you don't like one type who cares, chances are someone else will. But trying to proclaim that there is only one way or method that is right, is just a bit conceited.

Anything else interesting in the newsletter?

Damn everything on the Vita looks so slick, especially with that OLED.

what are the impressions of little deviants like?

It will probably be your standard launch title mini game collection that takes advantage of all the system's features. It looks really good though.

Thanks :)

Is the one where they showed the browser, movie player, music player, and other native apps different from this?

When I clicked through on one of the links in the email to this page:

http://ie.playstation.com/psvita/#select-tab-apps

It had 'find out more' links under video player, music player, web browser etc. all pointing to one page with that other info. Unfortunately they've pulled the page and those links :\ The other apps, from Friends down, didn't have any links.

Oh my! I'm in love.

Btw, are the trophies separate for Vita or will they be added to our current PS3 level, if we use the same PSN account?

From the looks of things since you are keeping the same PSN account I think they will be added to your total, the question is how/if PS3 will display your vita trophies also, I'm guessing we'll get a firmware update around Vita launch that will actually change some things.

Jim Ryan said you'd be able to view your PS3 trophies on Vita so I imagine it would work the other way around too.

You and Icelight are right on the money. I like a wide variety of games, and I like having one machine in my hands that can give me that variety.

That would make sense. If you look at the screen shot of the trophy comparison, for each game entry, you'll notice that there is a "PS Vita" label under the name of the game.

Yeah, they could fade up the icons on-screen when your finger touches the backpad.

Yeah, that's what I think as well. Sony may update the PS3 when the Vita launches.

Just one list of trophies in those cases.

I hope the trophy comparison gets quicker and the in game "xmb" is more robust. Comparing trophies take forever on PS3, especially when in game.
