Playstation VR GDC Presentation: March 15th

For people who are predicting it will cost over $400, just promise me one thing: If it comes much lower than that (say $250), don't turn that into a negative against PSVR. If it end up being cheaper than you thought that does not make it a bad headset. It's still the same headset that has impressed most people who've tried it. I can honestly see people getting concerned over that.

You won't see me complain at a lower pricepoint. I'm in Canada, so they're probably x1.3 or 1.4 the price, whatever it ends up being.

People have already tried it and we have a good idea of what to expect. If someone holds the lower price against it.. then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

6 million North Mexican Pesos.

At least seems like you could pull it away slightly if you need to look down for some reason, without having to get it off your head.

Still looks plenty convenient to me to just plain remove it since it seems so effortless.

It doesn't flip up but it absolutely can move "out and up" at a slight angle. This is to help with adjustments for those of us that wear glasses (like myself) but you definitely have the added benefit of it being fairly effortless to pop off. The best anecdotal evidence I can give is the multiplayer demo (PlayroomVR) I tried at PSX with a group; we tried multiple games with each one of us getting a chance to wear the kit and at no time was there in awkwardness in getting it off. Everyone was able to pop it off and pass it on easily.

I can't wait to see it in person. Im pretty set on getting one but I tried the Gear VR and it seemed pretty low-red, and the PSVR is lower res than that, 1080p compared to 1440p IIRC.

Presumably the graphics will be better than what a phone can put out but hopefully the screen-door effect isn't too bad.

PSVR has a better screen. It has more sub-pixels. There's more to this then just resolution.

$399 - $449 for the headset only.

I know you guys want it to be $9.99 but it's almost impossible for that to happen.

I'd say your right on the cost being in that range. It definitely ain't gonna be some cheap thing costing 199 or 299$. At the 399$-449$, they are still cheaper than anything else available anyway

I honestly don't know for sure whether I'm going PSVR or using my PC yet, I still have to upgrade my video card I think (got a 770 GTX 4GB). Is there going to be exclusive games on either? Just started to care about VR a few days ago after checking out that Samsung Gear VR Demon at my Best Buy, and VR has me pretty excited now.

Put me down for $399 alongside the move controllers and the camera.
I'm pretty sure they rather avoid saying $499 or $599 at anything PS related XD

Am I the only one hoping that Sony puts out a new Home for PSVR, and delivering on the vision of the original? Think about it.

Getting trophies in VR games unlocks exclusive virtual items. And platinums have a statue that you can display in your apartment.

Going to the theater/mall/bowling alley with your friends.

BECOME your favorite character or your hero from destiny/diablo/etc

Decorate your apartment (or environment from your favorite game) with your Bloodborne hunting trophies or your VR pets and waifus

virtual spaces for games and events ( virtual concerts, virtual museums, virtual e3?). Imagine seeing full scale Trico in VR.

Plus it would be a great platform for developers to experiment with VR ideas in the form of mini games and virtual spaces. VR Demos?

I'm surprised no one (especially Oculus considering the fb deal) has taken a shot at an online VR community.

It would be a really easy sell to those on the fence or unsure about VR. Seems like a license to print money with dlc and ads. Or am I crazy?

Ah, that's good to hear.

Honestly I thought the Gear VR was pretty cool, I'd be happy if PSVR was comparable. If it look clearer, great.

Similarly I've heard PSVR has bad FOV, but I'd imagine it's better than Gear VR since that's just using a phone, and the Gear FOV didn't bother me.

Fuck, i will still be at work for another hour when the conference start D:

Because of the time difference I'll wake up a couple of hours after. Can't wait to read the topic titles tomorrow! Something's dead, someone killed it, someone wins/loses, regret, tears, bears and salmon!

$399 for me for the headset only (now that the Oculus is $599 and Rift $799)

$499 with the move and camera and 2 games.

it won't be $599!

VR Wars

Episode IV:
A New Hope

It is a period of Civil War. Playstation, striking from a hidden base, has won their first victory
against the evil Facebook.

During the battle, Playstation employees have managed to steal the plans to Facebook's ultimate we peon, the Oculus Rift, a VR headset with enough power to melt your eyes.

Pursued by Facebook's sinister agents, Princess Shuhei Yoshida races home aboard his starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save his people and restore peace to the
gaming industry...

My prediction: All new PS4's starting tomorrow will have PSVR included for free.

Sony didn't even include the PS4 Camera with the PS4, not to mention the Move was never included for free with the PS3. There's no way in hell VR will be. Maybe a higher-priced bundle, but not "free."

More and more I think it will be a big PR release coupled with new official photos and trailer-montage (as I'm convinced we will receive launch details today). Seems slightly late to announce live-streaming in the last few hours.

Can somebody make a countdown clock for people like me in weird time zones?

I really doubt there will be price and release date announcement because of no live streaming.

But I can't stop hoping they will reveal that.

I still can't believe they are actually using PS Move controllers
For the requirements of console based VR, PS Move is actually a pretty decent, cost effective solution. For all the shit it gets, the Move was a still a solid piece of tech. Valve's lighthouse is certainly better, no arguments there. The only thing I find surprising was that they didn't re-design them.

I still can't believe they are actually using PS Move controllers

Why? Move is a phenomenal 3D input device. And was the Undisputed champion and hands down best 3D controller on the market for the last 6 years. It's cheap effective and makes for a great VR controller.

I still can't believe they are actually using PS Move controllers
Sub-millimeter precision with mere 20ms latency (on PS3, probably better on PS4, especially PSVR).
It's right now still the best 3D controller on the market six years later.
And it can be had for very cheap (super cheap second-hand) these days.

Will be cool to see how well it holds up to Vive when benchmarks can be made in April.
