Playstation VR GDC Presentation: March 15th

$399 standalone

$499 with move + camera

$299 if one can dream :D

People keep adding like a hundred dollars for move and a camera. Does someone know something that I don't? I can't imagine them adding a 100 dollars to the price when right now them together doesn't go higher than like 50 dollars unless they would be bundling revamped versions.

I'm hoping for 399.99 with move/camera and maybe a small game ala NintendoLand to show off the new hardware.

Partly 'cause I would buy it at launch for that price.

Im trying to reel in my excitement here. Im beginning to have a strong feeling they aren't going to announce any form of price or release date till E3.
Thats likely to be their big announcement for the whole show.

I believe we get a lot of info about PSVR today, but price is not one of them (unless it's $499+ bucks as I don't think Sony has any interest in telling an entire E3 audience this kind of bullshit).

It's pretty widely expected that they're going to be announcing a price and release date today. If they aren't, Shu should have got out in front of it and set people's expectations appropriately.

E3 is too late. And with Oculus and Vive around the corner, it would be kinda suicidal to announce a delay and nothing else.

Release date and price are absolutely coming today. The competition has already announced their pricing and release dates. There's zero reason to wait longer even if it isn't launching until the end of the year.

If there is a bundle it's going to be the headset, camera, two Moves and possibly a charging stand.

then why is there no hype train?

You just need to search

change it to PSVR and all should be fine

in the same ball-park, £300 would be sweet - I already have the camera and 2 moves so just a standalone @ £300 and I'll be happy :)

Yeah £300 would be very nice indeed. I'm keeping my eye out for a cheap second hand PS4 camera but I think I've missed the boat on that one.

I already have the Move controllers.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to announce the PSVR will be available from June launching alongside no mans sky, which is fully VR compatible.

The standalone headset will be available for $349 / €329 / £299 with an additional 2 SKU's, one containing camera and controllers, the other the complete PSVR introduction pack containing no mans sky, PS4, headset, camera, 2 VR controllers and 2 dual shock 4's.

Everyone passes out, riots ensue, etc etc

none of the above is in any way factually correct

They're not going to sell PSVR without the camera, it's required for operation. If they do, it'll be a specialty limited online only deal. There are maybe a couple million cameras sold, and only a few hundred thousand of whom might be interested in actually buying into VR as well. They're not going to clog shelf space and supply chains doing 2 SKU's for that. The customer/retailer confusion, support calls, and returns alone would cost them more than just doing some sort of discount/rebate for the relatively few people who already own the camera and also buy into VR.

I'm Canadian so probably $500-$600.

Really don't know what happened to our dollar. I guess it's good for exports, bad for everything else.

If PSVR isn't that much inferior in components to Rift apart of screen resolution, why are people expecting a 200-250 pricetag?

You will pay 400, minimum, and you won't complain.

The reason Move has been so cheap is because retailers are trying to clear stock. They've done such a good job about clearing stock, there isn't a single move available form any reputable retailer in all of Sweden. And honestly, I'm not sure the Move (the original with the mini-usb charger) has even been in production the last few years. Sony might be ramping up production of new Moves (with micro-usb), but not releasing to public until PSVR.

You could look at it the other way. People who have move and the camera already probably are the sort if consumers who will initially be most interested in vr. If you don't accommodate these consumers, forcing them to buy all that again Sony could risk putting them off which would reduce early adoption and long term adoption.

I am one of those few people, and if they don't release a solo bundle I will be tempted to wait on a price drop. And will not be buying of it is over my £350 budget.

yeah, I think £35 at CEX - likely £25 was the cheapest on the 2nd hand market...probably get a bundle but that will likely include moves :(

I bloody hope not. Leave e3 for the big guns. Ps4 has been light on the heavy hitters this gen for me. Get the vr news out now and hit us with Sony Santa Monica gran tourismo and those other huge first party games we expect. God of war etc at e3. Sony needs to not drag this out and let the large pc vr headsets gain too much traction

Rift has 2 screens instead of one, includes headphones, a camera, a controller and a remote plus 2 games for $599.
$499 is not happening for PSVR headset alone.
Heck, $399 would be a bit on the high end of pricing compared with what we know.

Agreed. Even 400 is hopeful in my opinion. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm not seeing it right now.

Sony didn't force camera day one to help keep costs down to help remove a barrier, I don't see them raising a barrier by making some of us buy a camera we don't need for £50 more than we want to spend!
