Please gaf, help me pick between PS4 and Xbox One

I'm trying to talk myself out of going crazy, and spending way too much money by buying both systems. I'm struggling with really deciding which one I should buy, because both of them have pros and cons to me. I've played both systems at my brother's place, so I know how the controllers feel for both, and how some of the games look. However, when it comes to picking a system for myself, I'm really really torn. Just to kinda give you guys an idea of where I'm coming from, and how I feel on each system, lemme just list out some pros and cons for each that I have.

PS4 Pros: Lower price. Friend will by buying Destiny on it when it's released. PS Plus service which I'm already invested in on PS3. I'd would gladly try the free games out so far for PS4 thanks to PS Plus. Better potential upcoming indie game I can get behind. Third party support is fine.

PS4 Cons: Other than Resogun there really are no exclusives right now I want to play on it. No releases announced on that I'd want to play are coming out anytime soon, and I don't how I feel about Infamous, because I still can't forget how I hated the first one on PS3.

Xbox One Pros: There are actually games I want to play on it right now, and coming out soon. Killer Instinct was real fun, Forza 5 looked real nice, I wanna play Dead Rising 3. Upcoming releases like Titanfall, and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare I'd enjoy trying. Third party support just as good as PS4.

Xbox One Cons: Higher Price. Have to renew Xbox Live Gold subscription, because I haven't owned an xbox 360 in almost a year. I don't plan to use, or want Kinect at all, so the higher price isn't really "more value" for me. I don't even have television, or cable hooked up to my tv to take advantage of that stuff. Titanfall and PvZ GW I COULD play both on my PC if I really wanted to, but I'm one of those gamers who does just prefer playing games with a gamepad. Even if I tried playing those games on my PC, I wouldn't feel evenly matched.

One last con for Xbox One I feel I got to mention, is I also have an internal predicament that if I get an Xbox One, I really hate how I'm going to feel like a hypocrite. I vowed I wasn't going to get their new system after E3 last year, and with the BS microsoft has pulled with their company, including the Xbox 360, is why I dropped them to begin with. I was tired of the ads on XB360, I was tired of paying for XBL when I saw no value in it for me over the PS3. It just sucks, because I hate being a hypocrite like I said, but as I mentioned in my XBONE pros section up there, I can't deny that there are games I wanna play on it.

This is just the an idea of the internal struggle I have while I've been trying to decide which system I'd rather pick up in the next month. Could you guys help me, and maybe point out what you think you'd do if you were in my situation?

UPDATE: Well since this thread was pretty useful in helping me decide, I just wanted to give you all an update on what I decided, and when I saw it in the store, I couldn't resist ^_^

My PSN name is Ockman if anyone wants to add me ^_^

I find it more fun to be on a console my friends have. If most of your friends are on a certain console, that'd be my deciding factor. Else, exclusives that I'm interested in.

For the few coming months, i think Xbox one is the better system (PvZ, Titanfall). PS4 has Infamous coming in March and we don't have a date for Driveclub.

I wish I could go by that, but I only really have 1 friend, and he hasn't decided which system he's getting either, lol. He just keeps telling me that he's likely going to get Destiny on PS4 because that's where his other friends will play it.

You like the games better on the Xbox One? Go for that. Games are all that matter. Don't feel like a hypocrite. They changed their stance so people like you will buy their system. You changed their mind.

Pick up the Xbox now and a PS4 later, if you feel so inclined. If not, just wait until E3 and see what you'll want more then.

If Xbox One has more games that interest you, then get that.

They're just video game consoles, it ain't that big of a deal.

If there's nothing you are dying to play right now I'd say just wait. I've got both and they haven't been on in the last two weeks. Dark Souls 2 and South Park are still coming to "current gen".

If I were you, I'd wait til March at this point and see if Infamous or Titanfall pull you in a certain direction and let that be the deciding factor.

It comes down to one thing for me really. Naughty Dog develops games exclusively for PlayStation. As long as Naughty Dog remains in business I will always have a Sony console.

I would suggest waiting for the lineups to fill out more before making a call honestly.

If you can't wait and absolutely must spend your money now get the one with the games you want to play right now and the other in a few years when if its lineup pleases you.

If you're so undecided now maybe it's best to wait? If you don't want to wait it out Xbox seems to have more you want to play immediately so makes more sense to go that way at the moment.

Hasn't Garden Warfare been rated for the PS4 in some country?

And you've got until September for Destiny, so if you get a XB1 now, you can start saving for a PS4 later to play with your friends.

That $100 that you will be saving is a huge incentive in purchasing a PS4. Definitely one of the main reasons I went Playstation. That's a good chunk of change that you can use to buy actual games!

This is the most important, I think.

That's a tough one. I have both and their pros and cons set them apart. I prefer the One's exclusives, but the PS4 has a more thought-out UI, better 3rd party versions, and PS+.

I simply cannot even decide for myself if I had to pick one.

I noticed on cheapassgamer that sometimes people get X1's on Amazon for 350-400. Maybe by getting whichever one the cheapest, that's the way to go.

It comes down to this. If the majority of games you want to play are third parties (always better on PS4, you mentioned destiny), and you said you don't care about Kinect the choice is obviously clear.

Lower price
Vastly superior hardware for the best 3rd party gaming experience.
Naughty Gods

PS4 has to be the choice. Get an Xbox one in a few years when it's much lower in price and is Kinectless. Both will eventually happen.

I second this, at the end of the day all that matters are the games and if you get a platform that doesn't have many games that you're interested in then you'll regret it.

Don't invest in a $400-500 console based on what you want to play right *now* unless you have so much money that you can just throw it around like that.

Buy a console based on what it's going to bring you in the upcoming years.

For me, I decided PS4 because I like Sony's first party studios and have little to no interest in Microsoft's IP's. And I know most third party exclusives they get now and later will eventually go multi-platform, just like the GTA episodes, Bioshock, Tales of Vesperia (in Japan), Eternal Sonata, etc.

Plus the numerous other reasons, like the fact that I just don't like Microsoft.

As much as I detest what Microsoft was trying to do with the XB1 before they changed their policies (and trust me, they burned that bridge with me, I'm never getting one) I'd have to say that it looks like the console for you.
If Resogun is the only exclusive you want to play on PS4, how can you really justify getting it at this time? It simply doesn't make sense.

I will say that if I were in your situation, I probably wouldn't buy either one. Investing in a computer or some computer games sounds like the better option to me.

If you can't have both right now, pick the one your friends are on and the one that has the games you like. I feel Xbox would be better for you though. They're both great systems. You can't really go wrong unless you care about the hardware side of things, if you do then PS4 is obviously the place to go. I picked up a Xbox One first because it had the games I liked, and my friends purchased it. I plan on getting a PS4 when Infamous SS comes out.

If you're only getting one, all I'd consider are which exclusives look better to you.
Well, and which you have friends playing, if that's important to you.

Based on your post I'd go with XB1. If you like the games more, go for it. Personally I think it has better games right now by far, then Titanfall in a couple months.

Or wait for E3 I guess

If I had to buy one to actually play games on over the next year - XBONE. For all the hardware right moves PS4 has made, the exclusives up to now and near future (other than infamous) are weak IMO. Seems you tend to agree.

That said, the majority of games will be crossplatform...PS4 will have the edge here, sometimes significantly so. Add in arguably better development studios, I'd probably go this route...as the long term better choice if I had to do it now. That and what appear to be better sales trajectory should just solidify the spot.

If you have a good gaming PC I'd just hold off and let the dust settle...which is what I am doing.

If all else is even, get the machine your friends are playing on.

Actually just get a PS4.

I never liked this advice.

My friends all got Xboxes, but I don't like Halo or Gears or other Microsoft IPs. I'm not going to just get what they like and miss out on what I enjoy. That's why I got a PS3 (although I had an Xbox too) so I could play games like Uncharted and Warhawk. Screw my friends. I can make new friends online.

Why pick? Get both if you can afford it.

In all seriousness, PS+ is a huge deal especially as the library of games for the PS4 grows. Also, the PS4 will most likely be better off over the long run when it comes to exclusive games and content. The reason I bought the Xbox was mostly because all my friends bought one so I decided to go with both.

If you're that torn then wait to see what's coming out to make your decision. It's my honest belief that 90% of the people spend most of their time playing multiplats, and multiplats are better and will be better on PS4.

In a year's time, will having gotten to play Dead Rising and Forza be worth being stuck with the inferior box focussing on features you admit you won't use?

Get a PS4 eventually. No hypocrisy, and you get the better box.

I feel similarly at the moment in regards to PS4 being a more attractive system but xbox being better for games in the short term. Watching some titanfall alpha footage has made me realise though that while that game does look good it won't be the end of the world not playing it so I'm pretty sure I will be getting a PS4 due to better price and performance. Will probably wait until E3 though when I have a better picture of what's coming out this year, unless Infamous turns out really good.

Sounds like a tough situation to be in. Are you planning on getting both eventually? If so, then get the Xbox One now. If not, then get the PS4.

You could just buy an xbone cheaper on craiglist or something, my cousin did. Seems like you would like it more than a PS4 right now.

Remember, neither of these are exclusive.

I think PS4 has more worthwhile games coming up, and for now I think the Killzone multiplayer is awesome.

Sounds like Xbox One for you. Same reason I went Xbox. No denying the PS4 is better specs wise. But when it comes to games, for me personally, I rather Xbox.

Definitely a PS4, no brainer with the sheer power advantage and cheaper price, not to mention the influx of amazing games to come(not cancelled 360 games)

-For me personally, Sony has always had the better first party exclusives. They are more broad and span way more genres. You have you FPS with Killzone, action adventure with Uncharted and GOW, your family fun games with Little Big Planet, your racers with Gran Turismo, and it seems like the JRPG's are exclusive to PS with Ni no Kuni and Tales of series. Just feels like there is something different for everyone. Plus they have Naughty Dog.

-With the PS4, Sony really made an effort to get the indie games which I think in a year or two, is going to pay off big time.

-The hardware is just plain better. It really is as simple as that.

-PS+. 'Nuff said.

-$100 less for superior hardware.

-Garden Warfare is a timed exclusive. Its coming to PS4.

-Titan Fall 2 WILL be on the PS4. You can bank on that.

That's why I said IF all else is even. In your case it is not.

if the xbox one has more games you want to play right now, then consider that above everything. but look also at each systems projected exclusives before sinking that kind of money into any new new console. im personally more excited about things like Quantum Break, Halo 5, Kinect Sports Rivals, Sunset Overdrive, and D4 more so than i am about any sony exclusives. its why i went with the xbox one over the ps4, even with the sizable 100 dollar price difference and performance edge.

also, dont write off kinect so easily. i dont have tv in my room but using it to navigate the menus is really quite nice. and Xbox Fitness is really good. super useful app.

The fact you already have PS+ and games for PS3 on it. To me it's best to get the great service and games every month . PS+ is the difference maker

Simply from a gaming perspective, since your Xbone reasons mostly rests on games that are out and playable now, I say get neither console now.

Hold off. Find something else to play for a few months until E3. See what happens at the big show. Then you will have a much better idea of what the future holds for these two consoles.

You want to be picking a console as an investment in the future.
You don't want to be picking a console for a few more games to play today.

Seriously, you just want excuses to blow money right now. Given your dilemma, neither console is worth buying at this time.

If your only getting one console during this generation, then pick up a PS4. Garden Warfare is only a timed exclusive and from the ratings submitted likely not for too long:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ed-exclusive-pvz-garden-warfare-rated-for-ps4

If your looking for games to try on PS4 that are out right now or very soon check out these digital games see if any of them appeal to you:

Basement crawl (releases 28th Jan)
Flower
Warframe
Don't Starve
Contrast
Outlast (Feb 5th)
Octodad (March-ish)

Also it seems like your friend is set on PS4 (getting it for Destiny)

Honestly, Games will come for both systems in the future, but does the snap feature and kinect appeal to you more or less than the better multiplats?

Good luck making your decision though.

It sounds to me like if you were to go buy one right now and take no other factors into it the choice would be a bone.

If you decide to look at this purchase as an investment future (5 or 6 years) I think you will find that the PS4 is likely a better bet. We are already seeing some pretty large differences in technical fidelity and this gen has barely started. I also feel like Sony has a better pedigree of studios and have consistently had some top notch franchises. With the indie support, strong first party studios, and a more powerful machine I think the PS4 is a better option for a next gen console. You also get the added bonus of an online subscription service that actually gives you something back every month in the form of free games.

Dark Souls 2 and South Park are still coming to "current gen".
No they are not. Those two titles are coming to LAST GEN.

If you have a 360 you can get Titanfall on it. Other than that game, the X1 doens't offer much outside of what's already been launched. I don't get why people say it has such a strong line up, we know as little about it as we do about Sony's games. Halo in late 2014, everything else... who knows.

If you're interested in multiplat games, PS4 is definitely the way to go, and the Sony exclusives will come. Unless you're a humongous Halo fan, there's no merit in an X1 at this point. Wait for a price drop. I doubt Dead Rising will remain exclusive now that Capcom sees sales potential in it again (well, DR3 will, but DR4 or whatever won't, same for Titanfall 2 or whatever Respawn does next), Ryse wasn't very good (the X1's Knack), and there'll obviously be yet another Forza game this year. MS' reliance on third parties will really come around to bite them.
