Please gaf, help me pick between PS4 and Xbox One

Really, the only questions to ask is how much did you enjoy Sony's exclusives of the past and how much the known PS4 exclusives interest you. If you don't much care for them, get an Xbone.

Of course, waiting is still a really viable decision right now.

I'm trying to talk myself out of going crazy, and spending way too much money by buying both systems. I'm struggling with really deciding which one I should buy, because both of them have pros and cons to me. I've played both systems at my brother's place, so I know how the controllers feel for both, and how some of the games look. However, when it comes to picking a system for myself, I'm really really torn. Just to kinda give you guys an idea of where I'm coming from, and how I feel on each system, lemme just list out some pros and cons for each that I have.

PS4 Pros: Lower price. Friend will by buying Destiny on it when it's released. PS Plus service which I'm already invested in on PS3. I'd would gladly try the free games out so far for PS4 thanks to PS Plus. Better potential upcoming indie game I can get behind. Third party support is fine.

PS4 Cons: Other than Resogun there really are no exclusives right now I want to play on it. No releases announced on that I'd want to play are coming out anytime soon, and I don't how I feel about Infamous, because I still can't forget how I hated the first one on PS3.

Xbox One Pros: There are actually games I want to play on it right now, and coming out soon. Killer Instinct was real fun, Forza 5 looked real nice, I wanna play Dead Rising 3. Upcoming releases like Titanfall, and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare I'd enjoy trying. Third party support just as good as PS4.

Xbox One Cons: Higher Price. Have to renew Xbox Live Gold subscription, because I haven't owned an xbox 360 in almost a year. I don't plan to use, or want Kinect at all, so the higher price isn't really "more value" for me. I don't even have television, or cable hooked up to my tv to take advantage of that stuff. Titanfall and PvZ GW I COULD play both on my PC if I really wanted to, but I'm one of those gamers who does just prefer playing games with a gamepad. Even if I tried playing those games on my PC, I wouldn't feel evenly matched.

One last con for Xbox One I feel I got to mention, is I also have an internal predicament that if I get an Xbox One, I really hate how I'm going to feel like a hypocrite. I vowed I wasn't going to get their new system after E3 last year, and with the BS microsoft has pulled with their company, including the Xbox 360, is why I dropped them to begin with. I was tired of the ads on XB360, I was tired of paying for XBL when I saw no value in it for me over the PS3. It just sucks, because I hate being a hypocrite like I said, but as I mentioned in my XBONE pros section up there, I can't deny that there are games I wanna play on it.

This is just the an idea of the internal struggle I have while I've been trying to decide which system I'd rather pick up in the next month. Could you guys help me, and maybe point out what you think you'd do if you were in my situation?

Stick to your vows. The PS4 will have the better exclusives over time (including Persona, Chieavatar user).

1. It's cheaper
2. The games will come over time, just be patient and play persona 4 again.
3. Crossbuy on so many games if you have a vita, which I hope you do so you can play p4golden
4. Your friend has a ps4. Go where your friends are. It makes gaming SO much more enjoyable.

I wish I could go by that, but I only really have 1 friend, and he hasn't decided which system he's getting either, lol. He just keeps telling me that he's likely going to get Destiny on PS4 because that's where his other friends will play it.

I will play PS4 with you! (Seriously, I will)

*Control F '60fps'...*

I'm impressed, GAF!

I've been able to experience/use both and I have to say you really can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. I'm using the Xbox One more because that's the one I bought and it's where my friends/history, but the PS4 is a fantastic device with a snappy UI, much improved controller (though I still give the edge to the One's) and some great features.

Similarly, the Xbox One's Kinect features I think are actually pretty great. "Xbox, Record That" after an insane Battlefield moment is probably my favorite new thing about next gen, and you'll probably be surprised at how often you use Kinect to navigate around the OS. That being said, there are some really odd decisions made with the OS and it can be incredibly cumbersome/awkward to navigate at times, though a fix is supposed to be coming.

Both are great, both have great first party titles, I know this hasn't helped but I've been enjoying both.

If you really want a shiny new console now, Xbox One is the way to go. If you're willing to wait for the Sony exclusives to arrive, get the PS4 later.

You like the games better on the Xbox One? Go for that. Games are all that matter. Don't feel like a hypocrite. They changed their stance so people like you will buy their system. You changed their mind.

Pick up the Xbox now and a PS4 later, if you feel so inclined. If not, just wait until E3 and see what you'll want more then.

I lucked into getting discounts for both as a result of some lucky employee stock trades and piled up gift cards but if I had to buy one at full price I'd say Xbox One if you like the launch titles. Pretty sure I'll change my tune when the Sony exclusives roll in or if it turns out this is it from MS for a while and we've got nothing but inferior multiplats to look forward to.

Do you really want to play Knack? Pick yourself an XBO and superior exclusives. Down a year from now when Sony actually makes a better case to pick up a PS4 instead of just being all talk then the system is a must buy. I don't trust MS but they are definitey delivering what Sony promises with the PS4.

I own both and like them both. Friends list not withstanding I would buy a PS4 if I could only have one. Titanfall is the game I am looking forward to most, but even that is probably not enough to beat the 100 dollar difference and the free games coming on PS+. Infamous looks great too so it's not like there won't be a big game on PS4 around the same time. They both have good exclusives coming which is why I couldn't choose.

That said, either way you go, you are going to be happy.

also, dont write off kinect so easily. i dont have tv in my room but using it to navigate the menus is really quite nice. and Xbox Fitness is really good. super useful app.

Lol I dunno, I've used the kinect at my brother's place when he got his xbox one, and the entire day we kept trying to get the darn thing to work properly. It rarely recognized anyone's voice.

Why pick? Get both if you can afford it.

I really did consider just getting both, but that just seems kinda silly because of the similarities in titles available.

I can't deny that Xbox One kinda has the advantage, because it is the only system right now I feel that has that "exclusive games" advantage. PS4 kinda wins every where else, but I don't really feel like owning both systems makes a lot of sense. If I had a Xbox One, buying a PS4 doesn't sound like it makes sense because it doesn't have anything on it that I'd want to play that the Xbox One doesn't have. If I got the PS4, it would have most games I'd be happy with too, so buying an Xbox One would be redundant.

at the moment the xbone has the better launch lineup and probably a better line-up for the rest of 2014..in saying that multiplats are looking like they will always be better on ps4 and the xbone interface and party system is a horrible piece of shit

The ps4 is cheaper...has a better much more streamlined interface but you will either hate the ds4 because of its crap build quality and stick placement or it will be the next coming of jesus to you

Id go with the ps4...the free stuff you get on PSN more than makes up for it

Based on your interests you should get the Xbox now and the PS4 as soon as the exclusives start dropping

Just noticed that, If a persona game gets a home console release next gen i'm pretty sure it will be PS4.

I'm a long time xbox fan, but i can't recommend the xbox one right now. In many ways it's worse than the 360, but i do think that it will eventually be a system worth having.

Seems like at least in the short term the Xbone is right for you, but PS4 is a better, more reasonable choice on all fronts.

If you plan on eventually getting both, might as well get an Xbox One now.

This is also true. You seem to want a bone right now for the launch/early releases. Get this now and wait a couple years for the PS4 to drop in price. Definitely a viable option, you're just going against that last section where you Vowed not to.

It's not like anyone knows you vowed not to get the One.
Except for all of us O_O

I'd get in on the cheapest price entry console with the better games. I have no issues with Sony 1st part long term like MSFT has had. The 3rd party stuff is up to you to weigh. You can also add the value of Plus vs XBL and other things to make your own mind up.

Games matter most. Go where the games you want to play are. Persona will be on PS but it sure won't be for awhile.

Get a PS4. The games will start coming as soon as this year. Chances are you'll regret it later on if you don't buy it.

I'm having a hard time understanding why he would regret getting a first run console.

Anyways, it's all about the games. If I had to make a choice right now between selling my xbox one and Ps4, it would be the ps4. Killer instinct is just too good (and ps4 market is still in high demand).

Go into a store, secretly take both consoles out of their respective boxes and have a friend help you with this last part, you hold one console, your friend holds the other.

You then start from back-to-back and take 10 paces then turn around and throw both consoles into one another. Which ever survives is the console you will choose.

Also, remember to run out of the store, because usually, you can't play a console in jail.

For me I went XB1 at launch for actually having games I wanted to play now. Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct were the main draws and both are great, but I always intended on getting both consoles at some point which makes it easier I suppose. So it can be a tough call in a scenario like yours, but I would just wait before dropping money on a console that had nothing you have no interest in playing yet.

...Yes get a PS4 for a Persona game that'll likely come in 2020 if at all? Get whichever your friends are on. The Xbox One exclusives are kind of tempting me to not sell my boxed Xbox One right now but I kind of want some Rareware or JP moneyhatted goodness before I decide on that.

Do you enjoy Sony's exclusives? If so, then the answer is easy because you know they're coming.

Just wait on them like I decided. By then there wont be a shortage of consoles. Im really waiting on Infamous to grab a PS4.

If you can only get one then just grab the console your friends are on or has the games you want to play.

Lol I dunno, I've used the kinect at my brother's place when he got his xbox one, and the entire day we kept trying to get the darn thing to work properly. It rarely recognized anyone's voice.

well if you had a bad experience with it then you had a bad experience it. i wont write that off. but ive had mine set up to correct volume levels and havent had any problems with it. i think its a neat device that unfortunately doesn't really have a killer reason for existing yet, outside of menu navigation and xbox fitness, which as i said, is quite excellent for starting or supplementing any of your exercise plans. i think Kinect Sports and D4 will make Kinect's value proposition a little more enticing, but those games are still a few months out

If you're only gonna get either or during the first couple years, why waste $500 on a system that's probably gonna be used as a doorstep in 2016.

Don't make a decision on games that are out now, go for the system that will have the better library throughout it's lifespan. The PS4 is gonna have support from the West and Japan, you're not gonna be missing any good games on there. Xbox is only gonna offer you a couple exclusive shooters which probably aren't that good anyway.

I'm having a hard time understanding why he would regret getting a first run console.

OP is saying he's only planning on getting one or the other. If the PS4 doesn't turn out to be the one he gets he will regret it. Truthfact.

If you have no plans on buying both, PS4 it is. Sure you'll miss out on Titanfall, but you'll have a good backlog of exclusives coming.

Easiest decision ever, going by recent events; the technical disparity is reasonably big, one company has more story of messing with consumer over the other, and well one is more expensive and has paywalls (even INTERNET EXPLORER and SKYPE are behind one). Not to mention the apparent confirmed superiority of one in mutiplats that will be retained for 5 years so I'd say don't sacrifice the most of your future gaming experience (which will be multiplatform), as someone said below mw, don't pay more for less.

*Edited in better terms.

Unless his a big Halo fan, I just don't see the merit in it right now. Dead Rising, and Titanfall's sequels will probably end up on PS4. PVZ, as others have mentioned, is a timed exclusive. Unless OP really loves Halo and Forza (which we'll no doubt get yet anther installment this year), there's not much point.

If he has a 360, he can get Titanfall on that for now. Outside of that, we know very little about the X1's lineup (about as much as the PS4s). There's no solid release dates for anything, Titanfall (a multiplat) in March, and Halo in late 2014? Sunset Overdrive sometime in 2014, Quantum Break probably in 2015. I'd say, but a PS4 enjoy the upcoming Sony exclusives + the superior version of all multiplat games, get an X1 when it's $300-400. I don't get why people say Xbox has this killer lineup, it doesn't (unless I'm missing something?).

Buy the Xbox One now, then buy the PS4 2-3 years down the line. That seems the best thing to do based on your current gaming wants.

Heck, if the PS4 doesn't have exclusives that you want by then, you don't even have to buy it, you save a couple hundred bucks.

Content is king. You've said there's more you want to play now on Xbox one, so you should get that if you're definitely going to invest in one of them now.

Ps4 isn't going anywhere, the price wont go up and I'm sure that later down the line there will be stuff you want to play on it.

Sounds like you want to stay away fron MS but want to play the games, same thing happens to me. I'd say go with PS4. Buying an Xbone sounds more like an impulse thing.

You know the PS4 will have the big AAA games, but they also have some awesome indies, and F2P, Save $100, no kinect, no powerbrick, smaller unit (if space is an issue) pay $10 less than XBL on PS+ and get some quality free games, and if you have a 40' TV or bigger, you can take advantage of that 1080p ;)
