Please gaf, help me pick between PS4 and Xbox One

I remember the OP making the same thread but with the Wii U.

oh gawd Knack. I'm gonna hurl my 100% organic veggie burger. Do you have PS+? Resogun is still free, I think.

Yeah, I got PS+ plus, and I got Knack, cuz it still looked alright to me last time I looked at it, and between that and Killzone, I didn't want Killzone.

Yep grab the PS+ games quick changeover is coming.

Also high 5 on buying Knack, It gets a lot of stick but it's a fun game and has couch co-op.

Yeah grab Resogun and Don't Starve soon. I am assuming Don't Starve will go away in February and Outlast will be added.

Been way ahead of you. I've been a PS plus member for a while, and I've already had all the PS4 free games added to my account via the SEN website.

MS has to drop the price even further to become an attractive option. The weak hardware specs (=inferior third party games) will be a deal breaker for informed shoppers. It's crazy that the difference between games on the Xbox One and PS4 currently is far, far greater than the difference between the PS3 and 360 gamer ever were. 720p vs 1080p, 30fps vs 60fps. I would never have predicted such a power gap.

30 FPS vs. 60 FPS happened last gen (for different reasons); 720p vs. 1080p is a bigger gap in comparison to 720p vs. 650p (or whatever) though.

Just saw your update OP. Have fun.

Congrats OP, will add you on my PSN list. Enjoy the games and have fun! Eventually you can get a One down the line. But for now enjoy the games coming out soon from Thief to Strider and more.

Be sure to give Infamous: SS a shot even if you disliked the previous games.

Sounds like you want to stay away fron MS but want to play the games, same thing happens to me. I'd say go with PS4. Buying an Xbone sounds more like an impulse thing.

You know the PS4 will have the big AAA games, but they also have some awesome indies, and F2P, Save $100, no kinect, no powerbrick, smaller unit (if space is an issue) pay $10 less than XBL on PS+ and get some quality free games, and if you have a 40' TV or bigger, you can take advantage of that 1080p ;)

And better multiplatform games

Owning an Xbox One, I'd recommend you getting a PS4. Grass is always greener on the other side (I'd be telling you to get a Xbone if I had a PS4, I tire easily of things and love the smell of something new)

THIS. I don't know what my problem is, but when I have one I always want the other and can't afford both presently.

UPDATE: Well since this thread was pretty useful in helping me decide, I just wanted to give you all an update on what I decided, and when I saw it in the store, I couldn't resist ^_^

Don't listen to the haters - Knack is a lot of fun if you like those kinds of games. I played it all the way through on hard, def worth it.

Congrats on your new purchase! Make sure to download Warframe! Lot of GAF peeps play!

I'm trying to talk myself out of going crazy, and spending way too much money by buying both systems. I'm struggling with really deciding which one I should buy, because both of them have pros and cons to me. I've played both systems at my brother's place, so I know how the controllers feel for both, and how some of the games look. However, when it comes to picking a system for myself, I'm really really torn. Just to kinda give you guys an idea of where I'm coming from, and how I feel on each system, lemme just list out some pros and cons for each that I have.

PS4 Pros: Lower price. Friend will by buying Destiny on it when it's released. PS Plus service which I'm already invested in on PS3. I'd would gladly try the free games out so far for PS4 thanks to PS Plus. Better potential upcoming indie game I can get behind. Third party support is fine.

PS4 Cons: Other than Resogun there really are no exclusives right now I want to play on it. No releases announced on that I'd want to play are coming out anytime soon, and I don't how I feel about Infamous, because I still can't forget how I hated the first one on PS3.

Xbox One Pros: There are actually games I want to play on it right now, and coming out soon. Killer Instinct was real fun, Forza 5 looked real nice, I wanna play Dead Rising 3. Upcoming releases like Titanfall, and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare I'd enjoy trying. Third party support just as good as PS4.

Xbox One Cons: Higher Price. Have to renew Xbox Live Gold subscription, because I haven't owned an xbox 360 in almost a year. I don't plan to use, or want Kinect at all, so the higher price isn't really "more value" for me. I don't even have television, or cable hooked up to my tv to take advantage of that stuff. Titanfall and PvZ GW I COULD play both on my PC if I really wanted to, but I'm one of those gamers who does just prefer playing games with a gamepad. Even if I tried playing those games on my PC, I wouldn't feel evenly matched.

One last con for Xbox One I feel I got to mention, is I also have an internal predicament that if I get an Xbox One, I really hate how I'm going to feel like a hypocrite. I vowed I wasn't going to get their new system after E3 last year, and with the BS microsoft has pulled with their company, including the Xbox 360, is why I dropped them to begin with. I was tired of the ads on XB360, I was tired of paying for XBL when I saw no value in it for me over the PS3. It just sucks, because I hate being a hypocrite like I said, but as I mentioned in my XBONE pros section up there, I can't deny that there are games I wanna play on it.

This is just the an idea of the internal struggle I have while I've been trying to decide which system I'd rather pick up in the next month. Could you guys help me, and maybe point out what you think you'd do if you were in my situation?

Thanks everyone for the "choose wisely" posts ^_^ they're amusing, and cool to see.

I've mainly just been downloading, and updating all the games first before I dive into any of them. Playing more Demon's souls on ps3 while the ps4 does that ^_^

I forgot about the $10 free that comes with the PS4. That in addition to the $50 card I got gives me enough for another full game on PSN if I want. I originally got the PSN card for some small games, but all the games on PSN that I kinda wanted were already free with PS plus.

I'm kinda considering a 4th retail game with my PSN credit, but I'm not sure which. I would consider Killzone, but I already got 2 other FPS games. Kinda considering Lego Marvel, or Need for Speed. Wouldn't mind rebuying Injustice if anyone who's added me to their friends has it also. I already got it on PC, but it's a fighting game, and more people to play against would be cool.

Injustice is my most played multipat at the moment since I beat the others. I enjoy it a lot then again I also enjoyed the PS3 version.

Btw, make sure you grab all the freebies! :)

I'd wait on Tomb Raider, Thief, or Infamous to use that PSN credit if you want a retail game. Lego Marvel, Killzone, and Need for Speed just aren't worth it at full price I feel. You also have plenty of multiplayer goodness with what you already have.

Good choice!
I would've chosen PS4 hands down if i didnt already have a much powerful PC with cheaper games.
PS4lyfe!

Assassin's Creed IV, Tomb Raider, NFS Shift, Killzone Shadow Fall or NBA 2K14.

Pre-order inFamous. You don't want any of the games out right now, and then in March it'll just load up on your hard drive and you can start playing.

Gonna send that friend request cause why the f not.

I don't really understand why anyone would buy an Xbone at this time and thus pay more for less, even given the small handful of good exclusives it has at the moment. We know PS4 is going to get a steady stream of quality exclusives, starting soon.

The OP says he already has PS+, which is yet another reason to go with PS4.
Since Xbone locks ALL online features behind the Live paywall (while really giving you nothing in return), there basically is no way to avoid paying for Xbox Live, as well.

A sensible strategy would be: Buy a PS4 now, make it your main platform for which you purchase exclusives and superior multiplats (=all of them, as it looks now) and use it for playing online.
Then wait a couple of years until a few Xbone price drops have occured (which will happen rather sooner than later, also depending on how much Xbone is outsold by PS4), then buy a cheap Xbone to play its worthwhile exclusives.

In my opinion, Xbone simply does not offer good value for money compared to PS4. Given the power gap, Xbone should cost closer to $300 USD instead of $500. Makes sense?

I'm being as objective as possible here. My personal opinion of Xbone and Microsoft is much more negative; I still believe they need to be punished for trying to take away game ownership from us. Given how they already succeeded with this stuff on the business side (OS and Office), I am convinced they'll try the same again with their next console, depending on how well Xbone does. I also don't agree with their practice of bribing companies to withhold games from competing platforms, and pressuring indies into releasing games on their system first and forcing parity for indie titles. I also don't like how virtually all of their Xbone launch games are littered with microtransactions, which is not exactly a good omen. Last but not least, Xbone appears to have been very much rushed (to prevent a PS4 headstart) while its OS and launch titles are still under construction even now. Beta tested in the future?

To summarize my opinion: The smaller Microsoft's market share will be during this eighth generation of game consoles, the better for gaming as a whole.
To be frank, these reasons above are EXACTLY why i left xbox and back with PS. I have been a long time xbox gamer (along with PC) since the original xbox but MS really have disappointed me and left a salty taste in my mouth and it made it all so easy to go with PS4 this generation.

Simply put....a gamer really only needs a PC and PS4 to fulfill 98% of all the best of what gaming has this new generation. Don't get me wrong...there will be titles on X1 that may propel me to get me to buy an X1 later down the road but it will be when there are enough X1 exclusives and a much better price point.

MS has left me perplexed over so many things, its not even funny. Sad but true story!

If I was only getting one console I would be adhering to your line of thinking as well. Can't argue against games people want though even if it doesn't make sense to you. I bought a XBone for a mediocre but fun zombie game and a Halo game I will likely be disappointed with as well. Does it make sense. Not really but that's what I wanted. My reasoning is if things get really bad for the X1 I should be able to get at least half back and it won't have felt like money wasted to me.

When people are asking for advice on a 400 to 500 dollar machine..its only right to weigh everything out and give him or her the best advice as possible because we know nothing of his her income level and how long this person wants to make this purchase last and get the most out of it...

Long story short...We should be giving the OP the "best bang for the buck" answer and as if Money is very precious in this situation...no BS like selling the console later down the road losing half the investment,etc...or stating that some of our own choices "Does not make sense, etc" like you stated...This is someone's hard earned cash for all we know...

EDIT Looks like OP went with PS4 after all!! Good!

Another reason I outright refuse to buy an Xbox One right now, is to reject the kind of anti consumer, deceitful bullshit Microsoft has been peddling the last several months.

They do not deserve my money. And gamers should reject their tact, policies and current ethical culture with their wallets.

The PR lies and deceit, the whole DRM, used games, online only, cloud will give you 4x more power, forced Kinect etc crap. The micro transactions in nearly every exclusive game, the crap Major Nelson and Albert Penello peddled on GAF (which they still owe us an apology for btw, based on their own admissions), the constant obfuscation and rubbish from their PR, the recent debacle about them paying people for positive news and not allowing promoters to disclose the information, the army of shills that had to be banned from GAF that Microsoft sent out and/or paid for and so on.

Why anyone would support a company like this is beyond me.

They need to earn my trust back, and that's going to take a LOT more than just some easy 180's, that were more because their sales and image suffered and less because they were thinking of the consumer. Throwing money around willy nilly (especially for false advertising) is not the way they earn back that trust. They need to change the entire culture of their company, and the way they do business.

This recent one was a gem.

timdog starting to crack now too? lol

edit. I know, im kidding..he's bone for life..what a moron

There aren't very many reasons to get either right now.

If your friends have already decided, then I would probably just go with that choice. Unless they're malleable.

On the games front, XB1's library is more enticing than PS4's for right now (I loved Dead Rising 1, couldn't get into Dead Rising 2, and don't know how I feel about Dead Rising 3. TitanFall looks good). But the 360 wasn't known for its exclusives, especially these last several years (unless you're a Halo or Gears fan). I'm honestly not a huge fan of most of what Sony puts out either, but they put out a lot more than MS, and some things I do like. Indies also seem to be favoring Sony, although MS has been making a push. For me, this category is basically a tie, although Sony wins out slightly. If I cared about Halo, I'd give it to MS.

Next, in term's of importance is probably the controller. I was a big 360 guy, but I've really taken to the PS4 controller. I still miss asymmetric sticks, but it's not as big of a deal as I previously thought. The changes Sony made to the controller (widening it, better sticks) make it as good as the 360 controller for my money, possibly a little better. I haven't held an XB1 controller, so I can't say. I've heard mixed things, but I can't say for sure. For the sake of being fair, I would personally consider this a tie. If I were making a buying choice, I suppose I would want to go down to Best Buy or Gamestop and try out both controllers. I think you're probably ok with either console though. Last gen I hated the PS3 controller though, and that was a scenario where, for me, there was a clear cut winner.

Next important thing is internet functionality. I never played much online on PS3, but I've heard some 360 gamers say that it was not as good as 360 online. From the time I've spent online on PS4, I would say there is no difference between 360 and PS4. Everything works as you would expect it to. Tie.

The Super Special Bonus category is where we rank random bonus shit you get with one console or the other. For XB1, we have Kinect and tv functionality. Kinect is dumb. The tv stuff is kind of cool. I personally wouldn't get much out of it because the only tv I watch is Hulu and Netflix, but if I was a cable subscriber with an XB1 I think I would be pretty impressed with what XB1 has to offer. PS4 has Vita functionality, and this is super cool to me. I've used Remote Play some, and it works great. I can definitely see myself playing some games like this start to finish (probably most RPGs, because I like to play that genre handheld). There's also the added benefit of PS+ contributing to Vita and PS4 simultaneously. This doesn't benefit everyone, but for Vita users it's really cool. If you don't have a Vita though, MS wins with a "kinda neat" feature. If you have a Vita, Sony wins with a great proposition.

So, so far this whole thing feels pretty tied up. Sony might be winning a little, but it's not a land slide. Time for extra innings.

First, resolution-gate. The current batch of multi-platform games all run at higher resolutions on PS4. Several of them run at higher framerates. The thought is that this disparity will get worse throughout the generation. It's not a deal breaker if you're an Xbox fanatic, but it's probably a pretty big deal if you're on the fence. I mean, why buy the worse version of a game if you have a choice?

Second, MS's dubious DRM strategies. This doesn't matter to everyone. It probably doesn't matter to most people. But it matters to some of us. I don't trust MS, personally, and I think they'll try to strong-arm their customers into some sort of DRM situation, eventually.

Third, Government spying. Paranoid much? Maybe. But I'm a little uncomfortable putting that camera in my bedroom. We know MS has already worked with the government with hotmail/outlook accounts. I'm not saying MS wants to, but I am saying that it's a pretty good possibility that in the next five years we hear about some shitty Kinect spying thing. I'll pass.

Final nail in the coffin: Price. Sony is $100 cheaper and offers some strong positives. It's a pretty easy choice for me.

NBA2k14 is really good if you like sports games. One of my favourites and I don't normally play basketball games

Either one you can't go wrong. For me it was about the games at this point in time so I went with the XB1, and I'm very happy I did, I'll be picking up a PS4 once The Order is released.

My brother owns 2 PS4's and 1 XB1, the last time I talked with him (around new years), he told me his PS4's been collecting dust for the past month and him and his wife find themselves fighting over the Xbone controller more often then not.

But everyone is different, I'm sure you'll be happy with your PS4, I personally just don't see the games there at the moment (maybe you do). The power between the two systems at this point in time was not a concern to me, the games look awesome on my 46inch Samsung, it's not like im playing my XB1 on my 106inch theater screen, so far I have been extremely happy and been having a blast with my Xbone.
