Yeah, I know a bunch of non-anime fans IRL who literally turned off Steins;Gate within minutes because the protag was so painful
The MOST anime.King of the Hill
Everyone in Attack on Titan sucks? Dunno what you're talking about, AoT has amazing characterization and development. Then again I read the manga which I like more so maybe you just haven't been exposed to the source material.
Edit: Is there an anime with a great female lead that isn't sexualized for stupid reasons like it happens in Kill la Kill? I'd be willing to watch something like that.
My girlfriend is watching My Hero Academia and I really can't stand this fucking kid. He sucks. Everything about him sucks.
Tried watching Attack on Titan acouple years back, but aside from the sister character, everyone in that show sucks too.
Watched the first episode of Durarara on a random whim (the Netflix image looked neat) and instead of doing cool shit with Japanese Lady Batman, we're stuck spending 80% of the time hanging out with the teenage equivalent of Otacon from Metal Gear Solid."IT'S JUST LIKE ONE OF MY ANIMES!"
I mean if I just wanted to see cool fights, I could easily just type "best fights from ___" into Youtube. Hell, studying and referencing that shit is already part of my job. But is it so fucking hard to find a show that can actually come off genuinely cool, or at the very least, somewhat endearing? Little Witch Academia is literally the first success I've had with anime in maybe years. It manages to atleast be really charming, even if the attempts at a more dramatic story don't really work towards the back end.
Is it so fucking hard to find something that atleast makes me think of Cowboy Bebop, or Ghost in the Shell SAC? I haven't checked out the newer GitS series, that's on me.
I suppose I may wanna check out Polar Bear Cafe too because... I mean look at that fucking title. Of course I need to see what that's about.
Help. I'd like to have some actual enthusiasm towards modern anime again without rolling my eyes constantly.
I mean... no.
One of my favorite heroes in any animated show is Aang from Avatar. He's playful, he's adventurous, he wants to believe in the best in people. But that also can risk him being naive and viewing the world in simplistic and childish terms, which constantly clashes with the teachings of his spiritual upbringing. Those same teachings are also the only thing that he has to connect to the community he's lost.
He's a rounded character, and very rarely an asshole.
But when I talk about Deku or most other characters of the sort, they so very rarely have that same level of believability and humanity to them.
Anyway, watch Tokyo Ghoul too
Don't do it, it's a trapRead it if anything
The MOST anime.
"Bobby, don't you go bein a little baka."
You do know Kill la Kill has a bunch of underaged girls naked right? Then you got the super revealing outfits that shows more than it should.
One Punch Man.
I tried watching this, but if my brain doesn't fail me, the protagonist was too much of a "cute girl who is too shy and yells in cute voices and shit", so I couldn't stand her.
I love My Hero Academia but I agree that Deku is a suck-ass protagonist.
Would it kill you to develop some personality, you whiny little bitch?
One Punch Man is the best manga/anime ever made. It fixes everything wrong with anime: shitty protagonists, dumb power creep, sometimes creepy glorification of youth...
It nails everything except for the presence of women, but almost makes up for it by having not just equal but slightly more amounts of naked men than naked women, and overall objectification is actually rare.
ONE is good people.

Yeah but Ippo is a dweeb, literally the opposite of what OP's looking for lol.. HNI would work for OP if Takamura was the main protagonist. And you really not bother to mention the guy in your OP first when he's looking exactly for that kind of main protagonist?
![]()
Ippo is totally a dweeb.
I just realized some seem to be implying that OP shouldn't watch Ippo? What is wrong with y'all?
Yeah but Ippo is a dweeb
Ippo is totally a dweeb.
Of course he should watch Ippo.
But Ippo is a dork.
It's not even the best thing ONE has made.
ITT: assholes are the best heroes
How can you not like my hero academia smh
Probably the most overrated animu in a long time. Can't stand it.

What.
WHAT.
He may not give any fucks but is still a one-dimensional character with a super boring personality that is interchangeable with other light novel self-insert protags.Ehh but Touma isn't a dweeb, he punches everyone in the face without discrimination. Men, women, boys, girls, young, old? He doesn't care.
YOU'RE pedestrian
I think the traits I'm describing are present in most of the popular anime in the West
Main characters are 13-17 year-old doofuses, the world they live in eventually leans over and caters to them, women only exist as a 13-17 year-old's idea of what women should be
They're certainly the most interesting characters.
Have you ever watched Bojack Horseman? The main character is genuinely fascinating and he is one of the most disgusting and vile characters I've ever seen.
Hardly.
The most interesting characters are the ones with the most interesting responses to the conflicts they face.
Assholes are only good at seming cool or edgy or whatever prototypical idea of masculinity that pervades western thought.
Probably the most overrated animu in a long time. Can't stand it.
Eromanga sensei.
The protag is a cool dude and definitely not a benchod.
