Please recommend some good, regularly-updated gaming podcasts

I can't believe Squadron of Shame hasn't been mentioned yet. Every month or so they do an in depth episode on a specific game they've voted to go through (the most recent was Uncharted, the one before Pathologic). The discussion is quite intelligent and goes far beyond what most game podcasts consider when discussing games, and the production quality is in a similar vein. Definitely worth a look.

Thanks Just downloaded the Uncharted one and the music one

I can't believe I haven't listened to these guys before! They're great!
Got some cool music recommendions of these French ukulele guys who cover game music, it was awesome

Thanks to this thread I checked out the Giant Bombcast and listed to the last episode fully while studying. I liked how it was informative yet casual and a lot of joking around. Is there a good regularly updated PC gaming podcast that is similar in style to Giant Bombcast?

There will never be another GFW Radio :(

Best there is right now is http://www.pcgamerpodcast.com/ which is nowhere as good nor even at its best but the latest episode (200!) is a hilarious quiz show and even features GAF's own Gary Whitta!

I was surprised to hear on that podcast that the new editor has already been moved out and Logan Decker has taken over.

I think most of the good stuff has been pretty well covered. So I'll just pointlessly tell you what gaming podcasts you should absolutely not listen to. Destructoid, anything at all from Destructoid. I've tried out their various podcasts and they're all shite. Terrible audio quality, unbalanced volume levels, completely disorganized, and they make jokes that maybe a 12 year old would find funny and then laugh like crazy.

Stay far far away.

I get more and more disappointed with Rebel FM for everytime I listen to it.
just boring ramblings with the odd fart and burp thrown in.

Seems they never can decide what they really want to do with the podcast.

Bombcast: my number one
CAGcast: holds a special place in my heart.
4 Guys 1 Up: impressed me so far.
Out of the Game: needs more regularity. As does A Life Well Wasted and The Bungie Podcast.
IGN podcasts are also pretty good.
Borecast is also fun

Already miss Idle Thumbs

The Bombcast has been somewhat lackluster the last few weeks.. it's making me miss GFW and 1up yours very very much. The golden age of gaming podcasts is over :(

I checked out an ep of Out of the Game again, and although i like everyone involved with it.. it just doesn't "work" at the level that GFW did. I'll give 4 guys 1 up a shot.

~ = Hit & miss.
/30?

Have we jumped forward in time?

updated often:
Player One Podcast
CAGcast
The Hotspot (Gamespot)
Giant Bombcast
Exploding Barrel
Gamers With Jobs
Mobcast
Drunken Gamers Radio
Joystiq Podcast
4 Guys 1Up

Not updated so often but still awesome:
Squadron of Shame
Retronauts

For those you who have an affinity towards pc gaming, trine, far cry 2, Jeff Goldblum or puffins, I strongly recommend listening to Idle thumbs. It may be finished now, but the episodes still hold up really well and there's some great interviews in there.

I very, very much miss the old days of GFW Radio, too.

Here's what I listen to every week:

Player One Podcast - Very funny guys with good chemistry. The best part of the show are the occasional stories from the old days of EGM. The only problem is that they're very narrow in the kinds of games that are played-- don't expect to hear any PC gaming talk.

Giant Bombcast - I think this might be my favorite current podcast. Everyone on the show is really funny, and they all seem to be good friends, which I think is very important to the quality of any podcast. Most importantly, these guys play everything, so they're always talking about something new and interesting.

Retronauts/Active Time Babble - Parish has put out an interesting podcast off-and-on for what's been over three years now, I think. The new show, ATB, shows a lot of promise and is really fun to listen to. Parish sometimes seems down on the shows, but they've always been great.

Rebel FM - I fell out of this show in the Spring, and I think a lot of people on GAF did as well. However, it's really come in to its own now, and the show's a lot of fun to listen to.

Geekbox - This show's fun for me, but I think that you kind of have to be familiar with the personalities before it's really likable.

4Guys1Up - I was skeptical at first, but I think this show is going to be really good. The guests have been great so far, and David Ellis makes a great host.

In fact if your looking for something to listen to I would HIGHLY recommend Going back and listening to all of GFW and 1up Yours. I did. I used to drive along way to work and they were great. and even tho the game talk wasn't up to date it was still very good. I listen to 1up Yours from Luke Smith starting (Awesome) and I think the start of GFW I can't remember.

Has anyone else ever gone back?

YES! GFW Radio is a gold mine.

I'm lost too. 1st ep of 4G1up open up with NPD. great....

might give it another try, but I'll wait wat Garnett is brewing

Retronauts can be awesome depending on the game(s) they're focusing on in the episode. Doesn't really have a steady release schedule though.

4 Guys 1up is pretty good so far.

I used to listen to N4G podcast but I haven't listened to any podcast in more than 6 months so I don't know if it's still good.

In Game Chat is always one of my best listens each week.

Oh, and fair warning--I'm going to start repping my own podcast if these threads keep popping up.

I suppose I'll go back and listen to old CGW/GFW radio episodes. Listened to one today and it still held up. Much better than pretty much any other current game related podcast now that Idle Thumbs is gone. :( There are now no more weekly podcast to look forward to.

I believe he is pointing out your podcast release dates.

What's up with that?

Out of the Game - although they don't talk about games that much.

Gamers with Jobs - that asshole Corry Banks is almost annoying enough to ruin the entire show.

Emailing this man a dollar.

With the demise of Idle Thumbs, I'm now down to the marginal RebelFM in my RSS feed. It seems the golden age has ended; is there anything out there that I'm missing?

EDIT: Forgot about Giant Bomb - I do enjoy that one.

GFW radio.

I say again, people really should check out G4's Feedback. Sessler is the host now, and it's a great show. It's only about 40 minutes a week, but it's one of the most well put together podcasts around.

Also:

Giant Bomb
Podcast Beyond (it's gotten a lot better recently less rambling and screaming, and much more gaming focused)
1up 4 Guys has been good the past couple weeks. The first episode was rough, but things are settling in.

Co-Op is of course great if you want video.

That's it really.

PixlBit's PixlTalk podcast series is from a new multi-platform video game website. In addition to a regular podcast that gets updated every Friday, they also have special episodes such as the New Super Mario Bros. Wii audio review and developer interview specials.

Nintendo World Report's Radio Free Nintendo is a pretty good podcast if you are looking for a podcast from a great Nintendo centric website. They also have the Newscast series if you are looking for a podcast that focuses on Nintendo news and the Radio Trivia series that focuses on songs from classic games on Nintendo platforms.

A Life Well Wasted
Giant Bombcast
Out of the Game
EA Podcast (hey, Jeff Green's on there)
Mobcast
Pixel Revolt
Exploding Barrel

...and to everyone that's said nice things about the Squadron of Shame's SquadCast, you're awesome, too. ;)

Wait! Oh man, how could I have forgotten Feedback on G4? That show is by far my current favorite gaming podcast. I have to admit, I never really felt like Patrick Klepek's personality was a good fit for 1UP Yours but on Feedback, he shines. Sessler's the MC and the discussions that take place are sharp and funny. Highly recommended.

Unless I'm mistaken, Out of the Game can't really be classified as a "games" podcast anymore. Some controversy or other has limited their ability to discuss games (which they didn't do at all on the last episode). The most likely candidate is Shawn calling out IGN on setting up Activision music game ads masquering as a community "musichub." 2K doesn't need its employees attacking people who will be reviewing their games now does it?

With OoTG effectively shut down due to being too free spirited, the next best alternative is clearly Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
