POKÉBOMB 8: Blinky, Pinky, Inkay, and Clyde.

Nice Jojo fanart.

I would like to predict that we must have fairy type pokemon in our party in order to evolve Eevee into Sylveon.

I think so too. I love most of Gen V and I feel like certain designs get hate because of *who* deisgned them. I've seen more than a few people say that James Turner's designs aren't real Pokemon because he's not Asian/Japanese. In fact, I've seen people say that Tepig, who was designed by a Korean, is OK because that's still an Asian country, but Vanilite is bad because it's designed by a Westerner. As if it mattered.

Anyway, at most we've now seen about 25% of the new Pokemon and I'm pretty darn impressed so far. I imagine by launch they'll have officially announced 35~40 of the new ones.

Yeah, it's disgusting and rather prejudiced to be honest. I've seen people on other sites claiming that the new cotton candy Pokémon and Honedge were both designed by Turner because "they don't look like real Pokémon." Opinions regarding the Vanillite line aside, people tend to forget that Turned also designed the rather terrific Golurk and Mandibuzz lines. I personally love Vanillite and its evolutions, but even if you don't then you shouldn't start irrationally hating on an artist's entire works. That would be like saying Apocalypse Now is a horrible movie just because Francis Ford Coppola also directed Jack.

Eh, people can be stupid. I see people hating on Harmoknight because it was designed by him and that "it looked like Samurai Jack" lol

It's interesting that people seem generally ok with cotton candy and swords, but not garbage bags and ice cream.

Actually, I'm not entirely okay with either of those things. Although, at least the sword is a weapon instead of a Pokemon made of snow and ice that battles, or plastic.

Do we know what's up with that Mewtwo? Did the original one make himself a wife or what

The original no longer exists. They made a story as if the first movie, the initial anime special, and the second anime special that took place never happened.

Say Joe, what makes you sure about the name reveals being later afternoon?

Are you serious?! Thanks for ruining my childhood GF.

GF has nothing to do with the anime.

And technically it's more of a "different mewtwo" than "original no longer exists".

...Anyway, I wonder how they'll let us transfer Pokemon from the previous games this time. I'm guessing with some sort of separate transfer app, like a reverse Dream Radar of some sort.

Just throwing this out there, what are the chances Famitsu's "big scoop" willvturn out to be something akin to Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros with new X/Y information. Generally I wouldn't go there, but it's the only thing relating to Pokemon -- that I can think of -- that would be a big deal. That or maybe the revelation of that second rumored Mewtwo form.

Pancham's evo is man-tastic.

I have to say that this is probably the first time since Gen 2 that I love so many of the new PKMN designs.

I've been avoiding X/Y info, but I was wondering if there has been any indication of whether Pokemon will be transferable from B/W2. Yay, nay?

Individual pokemon have individual designer credits? I assumed it was just a team at Gamefreak who made the pokemon and they were credited as a team. What you're saying is news to me. Is there a list of who created which pokemon?

I've never played a pokemon game.

What's so good about them?
It's a monster-based JRPG with a focus on 3 things - collecting monsters, battling with them, and trading them with other people. It's simple to pick up (little kids can beat it), but has deep, complex mechanics hidden underneath.

These games are usually among the "must have" RPGs on any given Nintendo portable.

Well usually all the designers for a given gen are credited as a group, but there are a few sources here and there which drop hints/outright say who came up with the initial concept for what. From a list I made earlier:

Ken Sugimori
--Heatmor

Hironobu Yoshida
--Wobbufett
--Deoxys
--Celebi
--Dunsparce
--Magmortar

James Turner
--Vullaby
--Mandibuzz
--Golett
--Golurk
--Vanillite
--Vanillish
--Vanilluxe

Lee HyunJung
--Tepig
--Pignite
--Emboar

Atsuko Nishida
--Pikachu
--Minccino
--Lillipup (or Ibe?)
--Herdier
--Stoutland (her favorite)

Mana Ibe
--Victini

Yūsuke Ōmura
--Piplup
--Oshawott

Reiko Tagami
--Snivy
--Pidove
--Sewaddle

In G1, there were 4 people credited - that number is now 18, with the people changing every gen or so.

Oh cool, are the pokemon voiced in Japanese or English?

EDIT: The Pokemon have digital animal-like sounds.

In addition, you can play the game how you want. You can focus on collecting, you can focus on making a good team, you can even just use 3 Pokemon, steamroll through the story, and never touch it again if that's your thing. Alternatively, you can also use 6 very weak Pokemon to challenge yourself. You can also spend lots of time post-game just trying to get a record on the Battle Tower/Subway. There's other stuff you can do, too. It's a very flexible game.

Also, the battle system is different from a lot of RPGs. You can only have 4 moves on a unit and you can only have one unit out at a time. Most RPGs nowadays are focused on a team and also give you a lot less units to choose from (aside from, like, SMT). Your units also have restricted movepools and healing moves aren't broken.

Oh, and the games are colorful. Way too many games nowadays seem scared to be colorful and that's a shame.

Yoshida made both Dunsparce and Deoxys? Neat.

ahh, so how do they communicate?

Well they're treated more like units than pets (it's more of an RPG than a virtual pet sim) though Pokemon-amie is making you bond with your mons more.

ahh, so how do they communicate?
Mm... they sort of say something, and people catch on. Or they'll mime whatever it is they're trying to say. As for the other way around, I don't think Pokemon have any trouble understanding what people say.
Can they die?!
Although there are Ghost-type Pokemon, and there are references to Pokemon dying throughout the series, no Pokemon actually die through main gameplay - they only faint, and can be recovered at any Pokemon Center for free, or through items.

Can they die?!

No, but they faint and are out of commission if their HP reaches zero.

Certain players attempt special runs of the game known as "Nuzlockes" in which any Pokémon whose HP reaches zero is considered dead however, along with several other limiting rules such as only being able to catch the first Pokémon encoutered in each area.

Oh, to finish up the design thing:

In lore/NPC interaction they have Pokemon death but in your team (and your opponents) they only faint in battle.

The cries for old Pokemon definitely sound different in Pokemon-Amie. Especially Snorlax, and Pikachu goes "Pika!"

I think they updated all the cries.
