Mobile 'real life' Pokémon collecting, battling and trading.

A collaboration between Niantic, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company.

Masuda involved in game design and music.

Iwata was originally involved in the project's start, Pokemon Snap was an inspiration.

It seems like it is based off of Niantic's mobile game Ingress which is an augmented reality MMO that you play in real life locations.

Optional accessory called Pokemon GO Plus, a Bluetooth enabled wristband that lights up or vibrates for notifications in Pokemon GO, can be pressed to perform in-game actions.

Crossposting from the stream thread:

Really excited. I was worried about losing mainline games to mobile, but this is just a Pokemon spin-off done in the style of Ingress (one of my favorite mobile games). Super awesome sounding.

Loved Ingress for a little bit. I'm not huge on the Pokémon franchise but I could see it being a fun element to bring to it.

Imagine if they make it like the actual games and pokemon are native to certain regions and certain "routes". Want to catch a Pikachu without trading? Gotta travel to Wyoming.

An Augmented Reality game where you go to points of interest in the real world to catch Pokémon.

Oh ok. When I posted that, the title hadn't been updated with the Ingress section. Seems like the Pokemon Company will slowly start making a transition to mobile with more and more stuff. I'm sure they'll make a ton of money through this though.

Didn't MGS Portable Ops do something similar to this with radio frequencies or wifi networks that were exclusive to certain global regions?
