Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire | Review Thread

1 more day.

But wait, where is the OT?

Has there been any confirmation as to how the team bases work in this game? Is it like R/S, where it's the same base and just the team changes, like Emerald where both have their own bases, or a combination of those two (like they're separate places, but you can only go to one in each version)?

Having read this stuff, and with R/S/E already my least favourite mainline pokemon games, I've decided to hold off for a while. I still have to play Bayo, Bayo 2 and Smash Wii U, so no point rushing in. If I hear good things I'll get it for Christmas. I really thought, though, that they'd focus on endgame in this one. That was the case with Emerald, and it's where X and Y were weak. I don't know, I'm just really, really surprised that the endgame is supposedly weak in this one.

Stuff like secret bases or new mega-evos does nothing for me at all, and the engine is still flawed. Really isn't the effort I expected from Gamefreak. Oh well, I loved X, so not like I'm mad or anything.

I never played the originals since I skipped Gen 3.

Can someone tell me what are the main differences between OR and AS? I just want to make an informed decision on which to purchase.

Main difference is the evil team.

Team Magma are scientists who use fire Pokemon, Team Aqua are pirates who use water Pokemon.

In Ruby, Team Magma is trying to awaken Groudon, and you ally with Team Aqua to stop them.

In Sapphire, Team Aqua is trying to awaken Kyogre, and you ally with Team Magma to stop them.

And if they keep the same exclusives as the originals, Ruby will have the Seedot line, Zangoose, Mawile, Solrock and Groudon, whereas Sapphire will have the Lotad line, Seviper, Sableye, Lunatone and Kyogre.

So... they haven't improved the engine, or kept all of the features from X and Y, or even kept the features from a ten year old GBA game.

Game Freak, I enjoy your games, but you're really taking us for a fucking ride on this one.

Starting to believe the time locked/DLC patch content but it's just speculation.

Spoilers

The weird part is about
Wallace replacing Steven but you can't challenge him.

Yeah, I refuse to believe the Battle Resort is that disappointing T-T

Is there any deals specials or promotions on this game guys? I know you would know I found Ziltch I might just download it

Anyone know if Gamestops are doing a midnight release for this?
Some are but not all of them IIRC so just call your local GameStop

How is the framerate this time?
Same as X & Y apparently

That just seems like wishful thinking, GF would force the player to wait days for the BF but that Episode Delta stuff kicks off right after the E4?

That's too bad that the Battle Frontier isn't in. X and Y's main flaw is their lack of post-game activities. Was really hoping it or some equivalent feature would be included.

Recently I've been playing pokemon games Nuzlocke style. The games are just too easy and Nuzlocke makes things a lot more interesting.

It's difficult when it's a new-gen game and there's lots of new pokemon I want to catch and try out but, seeing as it's a remake, it will be easy to do it on my first play through.

Huh? Is the Battle Frontier for sure not in? I honestly didn't even think that it wouldn't be in. -___- HGSS went all out, so I assumed these would, too.

Ugh, I think I'm finally burnt out on the franchise. I'm only even buying OR because RSE are my favourite Pokemon games, and even then I'm not very excited for them. Gen 7 is going to have to blow me away.

Yeah see this is what I've been thinking. They made HGSS into Crystal remakes with version differences and extras. Why couldn't these have been, IDK, like Emerald but only one evil team succeeds at awakening their dude? Keep Juan, and the battle frontier, and fighting both evil teams. Will we never see that stuff again or is there a third version coming I should wait for...?

In the Kotaku review, they heavily implied that there was some very exciting end-game content that Nintendo refused to allow them to talk about.

TL;DR: Want to play Pokémon again. Which one should i choose; X/Y or ORAS?
They both appear to have the same flaws so far. Lacking postgame (completing the Pokedex is no easy feat but it is nice to have more battling facilities to play), very easy main quest, poor performance. XY will be ever so slightly cheaper but ORAS has some more features (e.g. Secret Bases). The good thing is the games hold up value pretty well so for that reason I'd say go with ORAS.

Does anyone know for sure if the JP version of the game includes an English language option? I'm stressing out. :(
XY had English. ORAS Demo had Japanese in the non-Japanese versions and was Japanese only in the Japanese Demo. As for ORAS itself. Leaked footage boots to a screen that isn't a language selection but has a number of options*. Perhaps one of those leads to it...

*-Quote for link. About 03:20 is what I'm talking about

Serebii.net will be playing the Japanese version (I don't believe the owner has a US 3DS) so you'll know about language selection for sure at that point.

Well it's gotta be something, but that makes it sound more like they're gonna give ORAS B/W 2 style sequels to be honest.

... I'd be okay with that.

Do some of you feel more and more hesitant to get remakes instead of actual new generation games because you're retraining the same Pokémon over and over?

I know that Masuda is against DLC and all, but I really rather pay $10 to $20 dollars for an Emerald DLC than $50 dollars for an Emerald remake. (though, in all honesty, if the end up making Delta Emerald I would buy it anyway, damn my pokemon addiction!)

Saw a picture, looked pretty real but might be faked, implying you obtain [POKEMON SPOILERS]
one of the Johto Starters in the post-game from Birch, like you did in Emerald

It was real, guy was posting all the megastones he found.

Also apparently mewtwonite y is in AS and mewtwonite x is in OR
