Well congrats because now you don't! Just join up a gaming community (check), find people who like Pokemon (check), exchange Friend Codes and whammo! You're already 2/3 of the way through to being able to trade-evolve Pokemon.

It's 2016 there's no need to go outside when you can use the internet to find a buddy to trade the Pokémon and get the newly evolved back. Plus you forget that Pokémon by large is a children's game.

Personally I just use my little brother's handheld for trading purposes, not ideal but it will do.

.... "go outside the game" does not mean go outside. It means requiring you go out of your way to do so, outside of the game. GAF, Reddit, whatever is outside of the game.

I'm not even on a side here lol. But failed reading comprehension bugs me x.x Causes a lot of unnecessary problems on the internet.

I'm in college and I actually could just go outside and shout "HEY WHO WANTS TO TRADE MY GRAVELER" and I'd get a response.

I have no problem going outside I meant outside of the game itself. I just feel it's unnecessary and doesn't really make sense.

The point being, is that I hate the constant yo-yoin' of adding/subtracting features, where instead they should continue to build upon the foundations and stick to it. And I honestly don't care about the hats. If my rival could remove his/hers, then why can't I?

This right here. I really liked some of their ideas but like you said the constant adding then removing is pretty silly. Some are obviously removed out of pure ease of play-ability or accessibility. Like taking out the day/night/seasons cycle to make all pokemon accessible at anytime, but it does suck since those features are sometimes genuinely cool. Among a list of a dozen other things.

That's fair. Same thing happened to me, although this is even worse because...

Trading was literally invented to go "outside the game", dude. Hell, Pokemon was pretty much created for that. It was meant to be something you talked about and shared with friends. You're never gonna get what you want if you want that, dude.

I must be one of the few people who couldn't care less about having following pokemon. Such a useless feature, IMO. Customization, on the other hand, I hope they bring back and vastly expand upon it.

You realize the whole reason they had their hat removed was because they WERE the Rival, right?
I'm sorry, but that bit of reasoning is a crock of horse shit. So what if they are the rival? If there is a model for the Male/Female Trainer that is hat-less, then make it an option.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Were you not paying attention? The PC has always had headwear and they'll continue to have headwear. If you want that to be customizable that's fine, but GF isn't going to give you the option to remove it because it's a symbol of the PC.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I don't think anyone is arguing for the removal of features or saying they want it.

The entire series was build on that aspect thought. Asking it to be removed if completely pointless since it's NEVER going to happen. It may not make sense from an in-game standpoint, but it encourages socialization as I previously mentioned, which is one of the goals of the games.

You can't take off the hat, it gives you your Mary Sue powers. How else are you able to be Pokémon Champion, tamer of God creatures, and be the savior of the world in less than 30 hours since you moved to town?

I'm actually excited
1.0

I'm okay with hats.

Only Pokémon fans would say something hilarious like that. Stuff like this is why is taking this series forever to move on to the 21st century.

3D will always be better than sprites because sprites are restrictive and there's only so much developers can do with them. I'm completely glad they're gone forever from the main series.

Some of the best looking games to this day use sprites.

On a surface level customization is just as useless as pokemon following you. They both add nothing to the gameplay, they just make you think "that's cool".

We should get both back though.

I'd love to see that lol

I dont see the problem with trading to evolve. I love the meta-game aspects of Pokemon.

Not everyone has the means to trade evolve, say, Slowking in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire i.e. a 2nd 3DS and copy of a game they can be traded to and from. You could do it over the internet via say a trading thread on GameFAQs or Serebii but there's still a risk involved in that.

Pokemon doesn't exactly have what I'd call a small fanbase. If you're on the internet then you can probably find a reasonably trustworthy person to do a quick trade and trade back

I think the problem with grid is that many calculations like finding mons and phenomena are tied to the grid aspects. They'd have to alter encounters and such to make them less grid.

I find that, rather than encouraging me to seek out people to trade with, trade evolutions only deter me from using that pokemon at all. I have plenty of friends that play these games, but having to rely on other people for progression just feels really needless.

I like the grid system, and playing A. Sapphire today proved that. I was using the circle pad and I couldn't get in this one-square wide area because I needed to be 100% accurate. Thank Arceus the D-Pad exists.

I don't see why people are against it. It works just fine. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Why not just trade on GAF? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's easier to just pick something else to use.

How is it easier though? It takes 5 minutes to evolve a trade Pokemon when it could take 30 to evolve a Level Up. Even if you're leveling to a certain move, it still doesn't take any longer so long as you've got a connection with a part of the fandom (which you clearly do). Either way all this is a moot point, they're definitely not getting rid of Trade Evos

Pokemon Platinum is one of my favorite games of all time and the amount of customization in that game was amazing. You could even customize your freaking Pokeballs.

I'd say for some Pokemon, it's worth the trouble. Electivire and Magmortar are so cool, it's definitely worth the trade. Also, sometimes it's nice to have a variety of evolution methods instead of just leveling, or give X Pokemon Y item. I can understand where he's coming from though. It can be a hassle. I've got two 3DS's and multiple gen 4 games, so it's no trouble there, but when I was much younger, the only few people I had to trade with were my friends at school and my older sister.

It's not as if I'm not going to have to level up a pokemon just because it has a trade evolution, and 30 minutes is wayyyyyyyyy overblown for mass leveling. I don't expect them to get rid of trade evos, I just don't see why it's such a bad thing to not want them, and I don't think that the short-lived social activity that they're meant to encourage do much to justify them.

Said it a couple times on Gaf, before X and Y my last Gen was the OG Gen two. Trade to evolve back then was the bane of my existence. Especially since my favorites back then were Gengar (almost still is) and Scizor. Coming back after 4 Gens I noticed right away how easy and fast it is to trade evolve that I prefer it and wish it were more common when I'm training competitive Pokémon that I like.

There are other aspects of the game that use socialization that I'm fine with (trading, battling,Ect) but those instances can all be handled in the game. If I decided to trade my high level Pokémon with a random player over the internet, they have no obligation to trade it back to me. So my other option is to come on gaf or reddit and set up a date and time with someone who is willing to trade my Pokémon back and forth. I just feel this process is to much to have to go through. Especially for something that does make sense in game.

How would you like it? Just will your Pokemon to evolve?

I think the problem with grid is that many calculations like finding mons and phenomena are tied to the grid aspects. They'd have to alter encounters and such to make them less grid.

For the most part, they'd be changing one variable which would affect various equations. That variable being step size, which is currently 32.

I don't think that mechanics that are currently tied to the grid system are deterrents from switching from it. That'd something they could change without much effort.

The main reason they probably don't want to change is because there isn't really a reason to. The current graphical fidelity and design of the overworld don't benefit from freer movement. Adding it now would essentially have the same benefit of adding it to Red/Blue: virtually none. Even in a polygon world, mainline Pokemon games have still not reached the point where the overworld has proper scaling (or a proper sense of scale), and therefore pixel-perfect movement doesn't add anything. It's not an action game like Zelda, so arguing for "movement accuracy" wouldn't matter.

I think it's a feature Game Freak will add once appropriate advancements have been made elsewhere in their presentation.

They should take out Happiness evolution methods, way too bothersome, especially Sylveon's.
Toss away time-dependent ones too, why should I be made to wait to evolve my Pokemon?

Nah, because I can do both of those things on my own.

Edit: Should day/night cycles be taken away again for some reason though, those evolutions should be available via sun/moon stones instead of needing to own a console, the spin-off game on that console (Gale of Darkness was awesome to be fair), and a weird link cable thing.

This is a Pokémon Company reveal, your expectations should be nothing more than a silhouette for a random Pokémon from the new 'dex.

Last gen they revealed the Pokemon XY's mascot legendaries, starters and the region's name in just its announcement trailer. There's a good chance we'll see a lot of good info tomorrow.

My guess for the reveal:

Minimum: Full reveal of box legends. Basic region info (IE Region Name, Maybe shape/world location). Default Trainer reveal.
My Guess: That+ some starter info.
Best case: All that+Trailer with gameplay footage. Region Gimmick info. Maybe some additional new pokemon beyond legends and starters.

No. This is a Pokémon Company reveal so actually expect stuff. It's not something people are making out to be a reveal, this is a proper reveal

I saw a lot of fake leaks of the starters but I could honestly get behind a water starter that looks like this:

From a /vp/ thread 2 weeks or so ago.

Pls no grass owl.

I still don't expect much, but I'm hoping we see the world's locale. We've had Japan, America, and France, something like Australia now would be awesome.
