Pokken Tournament: Combo Video

I'm not into smash. This looks way more my taste. This entices me to buy a wii u.

Pokken looks hype.

Shame this is splitscreen/multiple setups i feel like this is a oversight that should be corrected in the sequal

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Street Fighter in tournaments played with 2 Setups? That's what I got from the Capcom Cup tourney for SSFIV a while ago.

Unless you're talking about just playing with pals. Then I'm dumb.

Online and LAN modes are there and The double screen set up for local multy is there to avoid a splitscreen impossible with that camera

Praticaly every combo is on Duel Phase, therefore no "field phase pokes" like suicune ...
Suicune has Duel Phase combos too, but they aren't really flashy. His main BB is like Y2Y, Y2Y, X, Y2Y or something like that. It does plenty of damage but it's not really combo video material. lol

Wait...WAIT...

IS MY MAN MACHAMP GOING FULL ON JOJO?!

DAY ONE

This looks a lot like the Naruto games.

The similarities end at the camera/field phase. This plays very differently from the Storm games.

Those combos looked hype though, damn. Especially Blaziken, Lucario, Machamp, and Sceptile.

It still feels like a less than optimal solution for playing with friends. I mean I completely understand why they had to go this route though as the Wii U doesn't have the horsepower to handle split screen. It's the same situation with Gundam Extreme VS.

Sometimes it's Tekken, other times it's Naruto. What's that whole phase shift thing? TBH I would have preferred one style or the other instead of a mishmash.

Got to try this out when it was at Dave & busters in NYC and had a blast with it. Can't wait for the real release to start tossing people around with Machamp.

Certain moves cause a "phase shift" between the two. I wasn't sure about it, but one of the preview videos had the full tutorial in it and it actually looks really fun.

..... what's the Amiibo card thing at the end? Did I miss a memo?

There's a secret boss enemy Shadow Mewtwo. The game comes with the card, which when you tap it unlocks him as a playable character. You can also unlock him without the card (if you get the digital version I guess?)...but it's apparently difficult and takes a while to do so.

Definitely my kind of combat system, duel mode is very Tekken-ish with a bit more flair. I'm guessing some moves will either knock the opponents back into field phase or there might be a juggle limit into field phase so things won't get too cheap. I really can't wait and I hope this does well for them because I already have a huge list of Pokemon I want in a sequel since they don't want to do DLC. Hope they change their minds.

Wait what does that has to do with horsepower?
It is a matter of camera Angle. For the camera, the second screen is simply optimal.

If you are talking about for than the cut to 30fps would have taken place even with a split screen and doesnt have to do with the second screen.

For competitive play the LAN party should be perfect with the online based on connecrion quality and server fidelity, still to be tested

Btw both combos and fluidity and variety seem spot on from my play through so far

I don't believe that is true. Other games have split screen on Wii U and still maintain 60 fps. Every game that has gamepad as one screen for multiplayer cuts it to 30 though. Rendering on the gamepad (and streaming to it) definitely is the primary source of the fps cut.

Pokken has the ugliest depictions of Pokemon in a game since Pokemon green.

What is it about the art style that makes it so creepy? Uncanny valley?
