Polarium (NDS) - Gamespot review

I guess the cries of hypocrisy are almost justified here because Gamespot gives almost every dippy, ugly little Mobile phone game that comes along higer scores than Polarium, which is a perfectly good game. I'd definitely be closer to IGN's score on this one.

They simply don't like the DS & the quicker the forum comes to terms with it, the better off we'll be.

I reckon games whould be reviewed in context though, especially since the Gamespot review system is based on an average that involve the technical side of things. If a game like NES mario were released nowas a new, there would be justified low scores, but if a game that looked beyond teh machines capabilities were to come out, it'd score higher.

Polarium is a solid game, but that's the best that it can achieve.

^ but thats the best games are gonna get on a phone. DS games will get much better,
wait till there something for DS on the level of OOT :D

This is a thoroughly dumb system. It makes them graphics whores on the DS, which has shitty graphics (it seems more to me that graphically they are judging DS games by PSP standards!). It leads to any halfway decent cell phone game getting an 8+ score.

Again, I don't think most of the DS lineup is awesome or anything, but it's kind of amazing to me that only one game has score above 8.0 from them. The library isn't THAT bad.

I don't really place much stock in their reivews, so I guess it's more the forum response than the site itself that I'm responding to here.

No, cell phones are increasing in power more than any other platform, all the time.

Besides, I don't see them doing this with any other system, though. It's completely inconsistent. After all, by that logic since the PSP is only using 2/3 of its clock speed right now, shouldn't they save 2/3 of their graphics scores for the time when the developers begin to use the whole CPU?

Yeah, fair enough comments. I love my DS, and think the games are great, but I probably wouldn't rate anything in the current library higher than an 8/10 anyway. Maybe Mario64. but only maybe.

Nintendo didn't make Polarium.
I know, actually meant as their system libraries suck because they basically work on their first parties, the few big collaborations/exclusives they get, and ignore everything else. Nintendo still makes a quality title more often than not, but they don't push for quality from 3rd parties pretty much at all it seems.

Gamespot is just biased towards Sony. They love Sony and everything Sony related, Gamespot wouldn't do anything to hurt Sony in the least unless someone there was having a nervous breakdown and were out of control or something. Not a joke here.

But GS can give Nintendo games very good scores sometimes. Most of the time though they let Sony and Sony partners get away with bad things and overrate other things and sometimes they're very hard on Nintendo. That's pure bias. However when a game is not seen as direct competition to anything Sony they allow themselves to give the game a good score, even when it's shit and that's not just true for Nintendo, it's(was) Sega, Microsoft, Microsoft's partners(tecmo) and so on. Sometimes they have to give hot titles a good score, but they always make sure it's a notch down and the opposite is true to hot Sony titles, it's a notch up. The bias is toward Sony. For example their second(or third) perfect score was Chrono Cross and they gave 9.9 to Soul Calibur, now I'm not sure it's still the case because sometimes they regret their judement and change it after the damage is already done to get away with it but anyway. Compared to Soul Calibur for its genre Chrono Cross definitely didn't deserve that perfect score and that's just one of many examples.

I've been a reader of Gamespot ever since the begining of their existence and it's always been like this. To whoever said Nintendo games might actually suck, that may be true to their Gamecube titles, yes, but if you mean that in the DS case then you obviously don't know Gamespot.
Deepthroat would disagree. :lol
