PolitiGAF: Can we have one thread of honesty?

I don't enjoy mincing words. Can we have one thread where we don't bullshit each other about candidates or the issues and just be real?

I feel like the other threads are all brown nosed.

What do you even mean?

He's talking about people spinning the intention of his points. I know what's it like as I got butchered for a simplistic comment that gotten taken the wrong way. Rather than ask people to stop something that most don't intend just clarify your statements and only respond to those who remain respectful.

GAF isn't the best place to have a dissenting opinion in terms of politics anyway.

You just have to be ready to rumble. You gotta know your stuff. Just like the gaming side.

I'd like to find one place on the net that is. Here I can discuss the subject with more like minded people and have fun with the many photo opportunities that present themselves.

It's pretty funny when posts like this get made... normally its made by conservatives/republicans who feel that GAF is far too liberal/slanted.

as a regular of poligaf, I find far more often then not, liberal members can and will back up their assertions with studies and articles... where as conservatives will often talk about debunked talking points (if they're new), or if they're the few that stick around and have been honed by months and years of withering arguments and debates, will have developed the most appropriate responses to the arguments posed by other members; shucking and jiving... or rather, ignore salient points and respond to strawmen.

So... I invite you into the poligaf thread. Just be ready to back up your assertions and have an argument. If you're proven wrong, don't pretend it didn't happen... think for a moment... for yourself what exactly you're supporting.

There is no honesty in politics. It would be dishonest not to lie about them.

Your post is too liberal.

Personally, I'm pro-labor. Go Ruddy ruddy rudd rudd!

it the candidates themselves were real I'd be all over it

"Lyndon Johnson is a politician, you know the ethics those guys have. It's like a notch underneath child molester. "

There are plenty of mixed political forums on the internet. Poligaf is not the norm.

There's nothing more laughable to a libertarian than reality. And vice versa!
Perfect example

I'm seeing some republicans finding themselves unable to support McCain, so all of a sudden, both Barack and McCain suck. McCain can't stop lying, so it's they both are pathological liars. It's now,'It doesn't matter who you vote for. You're foolish if you expect anything out of either candidate. But really, I don't blame them. Nobody really wants to be seen as a party traitor. At least they aren't defending the undefendable John McCain.

I think PolGAF would welcome conservatives/republicans who can think for themselves and put up arguments beyond talking points and religious rhetoric. If you think you are that guy, please go to the thread and make your case. There are plenty of things conservatives shouldn't like about Obama, so let's hear it. Just make sure you have sources for your facts.

you can tell when some people are being disingenuous and when some people are being straightforward with what they believe is the truth.

Politics is going to be subjective in many cases so I'm sure the "real factor" is relative to your political compass :P

Sometimes people try to ban you when you know your stuff and are very polite and straight-forward, just because the kneejerk banner can't stand another perspective, particularly when it shows they don't have all the facts.

I don't really think there is a point to that.

First of all, you don't vote on the candidate's policies, you vote for the candidates themselves. So when you hear about your candidate doing something stupid or having a policy you don't agree with, you inherently forgive him for having good intentions and bad execution, or that he was misinterpreted which happens a lot, often on purpose.

Besides that, if you have done your research at all, you should know where you stand and nothing should surprise you. We have been talking about this election for over a year, you should know where the candidates stand on every issue that is important to you. If somebody on NeoGaf can Google an article in 30 seconds that makes you want to switch candidates at this stage in the game, you haven't been doing your homework to begin with.

PolitiGAF...after all the hard work we've done establishing the PoliGAF name, you soil it with this nonsense!

A PLAGUE ON BOTH YER HOUSES!

This is why I respect the Ron Paul supporters more..

In all honesty, this

Makes me LOL everytime I see it.

Since we're being all honest, I'll admit I respect libertarians far more than republicans, and consider them equals I tend to find they've studied and read as much as I and came to the exactly opposite conclusion than I have and sometimes the right conclusions (see gay marriage thread), I give them a hard time because on many issues I do think they're very wrong (sometimes laughably so just as they think I'm wrong on many issues) but we need them to have some actual smart conversation (when they're not assuming your views for you).

BUT I respect objectivists/libertopians far less republicans. And as stereo typical as it sounds a libertrarian to me is just a republican that's bothered to study and has stayed true to what the republican party once was. Lastly,
