Irish voters are overwhelmingly in favour of Hillary Clinton becoming the next president of the United States, according to the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll.
Just 6 per cent of people said they would like to see Republican Party candidate Donald Trump elected president, as against a massive 82 per cent who expressed support for the Democratic nominee Ms Clinton – 12 per cent had no opinion.
The poll was carried out last Monday and Tuesday, before the latest controversy to engulf Mr Trump and before the second television debate between the two candidates.

Women voters were more strongly in favour of Ms Clinton than men, with just 3 per cent of them saying they would like to see Mr Trump being elected president, as compared to 8 per cent of men who took that view.
Across the social classes, the strongest support for Mr Trump came from farmers with 12 per cent backing his candidature as against 78 per cent for Ms Clinton.
Middle class voters were more enthusiastic about Ms Clinton than working class voters but there was still massive support for the Democratic Party candidate across all social classes.

Like pretty much all European countries except Greece. You'd still think Donald would have a fighting chance here if you believed Boards.

Guarantee that 12% is Youth Defence and Iona.

I posted in the debate thread last night that I was at a friends house here in Ireland who supports Trump. He hated Clinton. But yeah the vast majority of people here, including myself, think the man is a borderline sociopath. Especially after watching the debate.

What's the point of this news / thread? It's already well known that most europeans would rather vote for Clinton and aside from that it doesn't really have any relevance at all what Ireland thinks.

Its quite telling that most of the countries that seem to back Trump are the ones with totalitarian regimes.

It's not really a surprise.

Most, if not all of the western world wants a Clinton presidency. It's only dictatorships and extreme regimes that want an incompetent windbag at the helm of the most powerful country in the world.

The only relevance one can hope for is that within the more 'macho' elements of Irish America that may be more Trump leaning, the realisation that even their motherland hates him might turn a couple of heads. Although that's probably too much to hope for.

(I note, however, according to recent polls that Irish Americans are the segment of white America least inclined toward Trump anyway).

The know that Leprechauns are very temperamental beings and constantly promise fortunes that are physically impossible to achieve.

As an actual Irishman in America, this never works. They'll just tell you some more or less polite version of "you don't know our politics."
