A retroquestion for the nostalgic here;
in this period thanks to the emulators i have completed some Desert Strike versions i hadn't the pleasure until now, like the SNES US version and the Master System one.
Actually playing the Genesis version, and the DOS version will follow.
It's interesting how each port seems to fit greatly on each target platform, with gfx, sound and slight gameplay differences too.
I had this on Amiga back then, always loved the first (probably still my fave chapter), but i like the entire serie, until Nuclear Strike on PS1

I'm wondering if you have a favorite version between all the different ports that were made for the first one?

Only ever played the MD version. A buddy of mine had it on snes but seeing EA games on that machine always seemed a little strange to me. Something about the snes colour palette made them look a little too clean.

Only ever played the Amiga version so have to go with that.

There is a modern inspired version if you fancy.

I was reading about Desert Strike in Retrogamer a few weeks ago, I couldn't for the life of me remember if I had it on my Megadrive.
Quick search revealed I had Jungle, but not Desert.
I'm so anal and ocd so I have no idea why I'd got Jungle before buying Desert.
The isometric controls always flummoxed me as a youth and I can't remember being especially good at it.
But I digress.
Megadrive. Just for the memories.
Edit: I realise the irony in my last statement.

One of the few Amiga games that released without copy protection on the disks. Strange for EA though I suppose their train of thought was that it would have been on a BBS a week or so before official release so what was the point.

Still have my big box original too.

Indeed an interesting choice, i had the original too but i discovered much later that wasn't copy protected

Strike series is excellent on MegaDrive, among the best games and really a ton of fun to play even today.

The Master System port was fantastic, they really did a ton of effort on it. Sadly the Game Gear version is entirely different and not smooth at all. Same for Urban Strike on the console. However, the Jungle Strike port is nothing short of amazing on the Game Gear. Incredibly close to the 16 bit game (but without all the missions sadly).

Also, why isn't there a remastered collection of these gems?

I only know the Amiga version and from I understand it's thankfully not one of the inferior ones.

A shame that Cleared Hot is a PC-only release, I'd buy it to scratch that itch.

I think I only played Desert Strike at someone else's house on a computer. It did not quite blow me away like the Urban Strike I already owned on the Genesis.

P.S. I had no idea that there were so many Amiga owners...

I only ever had access to the Genesis versions, but they were some of my favorite games of the gen. Back when EA felt like EA.

Also, controversially, I think the Amiga version of Road Rash is the best version too.
