Polygon: Knack 2 is an atonement

Art department didn't get the memo. The visual designs are still as ugly as ever.

I don't get why people think the last act dragged on too long. It slowly went from small Knack to enormous Knack, so that alone I feel justifies its length. One shotting what were essentially mini bosses earlier in the level was great.

On topic - It would be a shame if The Order wasn't given another chance too - Concept-wise it's more imaginative than anything ND has come up with in the last 20 years.

I love the orders universe........there is so much potential it could be truly fantastic.

Sucks that as soon as you got to enjoy the gunplay and weapon it was a cut scene :(

Orgasms, eating your favorite ice cream, laying in bed after a long day, playing Knack.

These are the four best things life has to offer.

As it stood, Knack became a drag. But I kept thinking it could have been a wonderful platformer/brawler and that the potential was there.

Do it, Cerny.

Yo check this shit out

  • 4 1/2 stars average user score out of almost 800 reviews. The people have spoken and they want more Knack
  • Still $59.99 new, despite being out for 3 1/2 years. Nintendo games wish they retained that kind of value
  • The coveted "Amazon's Choice" banner that suggests high quality and best value

I'm always so baffled that people's "solution" to Knack being bad is "play it on hard." On Normal the combat was punishing and tedious, which is what made it such an infuriating slog. "Inoffensive" is not a word I would use to describe my experience with Knack at all; I hated every second of it. I only kept playing because it looked pretty and there was hardly anything else on that system at launch.

That said, if they make something worthwhile out of this sequel no sensible person asked for, I'll take a look. Cerny certainly has the pedigree to allow him the benefit of the doubt.

Phil Spencer should swoop in and lock this shit down for MS. This is the 1st party title they need. Knack 2 or bust.

HOW?!

The memes did come solely from that first week UK sales thread, though.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=726565

The point being, if Knack had outsold Mario for one week and then dropped out of the charts while Mario characteristically managed to maintain a consistent placement afterwards, then that whole comparison between the two would've died out pretty quickly. Instead it became more prevalent and morphed into a meme beyond that thread you linked because Knack had legs longer than anyone had expected. Mario was nowhere to be seen in the top 40 and thus it became a running joke.

Mario sold way more worldwide in the end, so the whole joke is irrelevant in a way, but the narrative some people try and push that Knack only outperformed Mario for a week or two in the UK has a strong waft of salt emanating from it.

the problem is this might not be a joke. Some people genuinely think knack drove consoles or lit the charts on fire. Truth is the bundles and launch status made it a high seller. Yes it outsold the last mario game... on one of the worst performing consoles of all time. SMO will obliterate knack 2. Barring bundles I'd take a ban bet on that.

I don't think it actually outsold 3D world worldwide unless it sold like 6 million since 3D world was at 5.6 the last we saw. But it is pretty funny. He's got that swagger it's generally considered to be a poor game and yet it's getting a sequel.

It's unfortunate that of all the IPs that could have been much better games after getting a sequel this is the one Sony chose, to be honest. But I guess they want to make more games for families and it was easier to pick this than going back to an older IP or creating a new one.

I didnt hate knack, didnt love it either. It was pretty and reminded me of a simpler time in gaming. To me it was ps4's ryse. A solid game but sort of unremarkable.

I just know some gaffers made/make a big deal about knack outselling mario as if there's really any merrit to the game as a system seller or a popular franchise. The bundles are what moved it and again the launch status.

I generally enjoyed Knack. It was more a brawler than a platformer but I was fine with that. It was also surprisingly challenging and a fun little co op game. Not perfect and certainly needed some work so I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Holy shit these changes actually sound great, I'm in! They should really release a demo around E3, like announce it on stage with trailer, so that people would were soured on the first game can get there hands on it and actually feel the changes themselves.

give it to us via ps+ and let us decide for ourselves

What I want to know is how exactly did he convince Sony to make this thing

needed a "kids game" at launch? gonna assume that the budget wasn't super high either. seems to have sold ok. enough to greenlight a sequel

In all seriousness I did like the first game. I thought it was a pretty and solid launch title. Co-op with my wife was a lot of fun and it wasn't too hard for her as the second, indestructible Knack. That said I did think checkpointing was an issue, that there were odd difficulty spikes and I wanted more control over when Knack got big and then small again, which only happened in scripted moments. It sounds like they're fixing those issues so I'm genuinely and non-ironically pretty excited.

You really can't argue with these facts, finally understand why people want this on ps+. I hope the second game is legitimately great though, nothing would be more wild than knack 2 being the best platformer (an actual one this time) of 2017

It's good for Naughty Dog that concepts don't make fun or fulfilling games on their own then. That whole tricky execution thing and all.

It would suck if Mario Odyssey gets delayed to 2018...

I got Knack as a lunch title back when I received the PS4 around Christmas 2014. I've played it maybe once or twice and it's just bare bones mediocre.
