Polygon Rumor: Xbox 720 revealing in March or April, might have subsidized version

I'm looking forward to their announcement. I wonder if they will 'update' the existing 360 controller.

They should do something with the controller, but nothing to make it more complex. Adding more and more buttons and features is not what I want to see.

Looks like Sony has won this one!

I can't go into detail, but Microsoft is certainly scrambling as well as Sony. Sony is just scrambling ahead of Microsoft at this point. The engineering departments at these companies must be on suicide watch with trying to make sure parts are available and will be produced in time for release.

Don't tell me the parts aren't finished yet!

The whole point of contract based consoles is to sucker in the poor. Here buy this 400 dollar console you cant afford for 700 over a few years.

It's possible to be able to afford the monthly cost without being able to (or wanting to) afford the upfront cost, even if you're paying for that privilege. You can make that same stupid argument about anything. "Here, buy this 400k house you can't afford for 3 million over 30 years"

Sensitive? Hardly. Problem with your post if it was intended to be a joke is that it is very similar to others that have sprouted up over the last couple weeks. I'm buying both consoles day one, so the fanboy nonsense around here is just REALLY annoying noise

Is it really so hard to just ignore the "trolls" and annoying posts? I swear the responses outnumber the trolls 2:1. And don't get me started about the responses to the responses ;)

I don't understand why people keep making WatchESPN such a big deal.
The app is available on PC, iphone, android and is only availble if you already have the tv sub.

*not dissing the console, but I just don't know why people think the app is some major dealbreaker.*

Because iPhone and Android devices have small screens where as the Xbox is hooked up to the TV.

Also, like I said before, many share accounts with family members; some even split the bill.

So yeah, it's pretty huge that there's a way for people to watch all ESPN content on their TV without having to pay close to $100/month.

His argument was about 360 living up to expectations and PS3 not, which was largely true. Sure, there were a lot of "Xbox 1.5" comments, but Microsoft showed a lot of stuff even at launch that was way beyond the previous gen, they revealed Gears of War and that was probably the first real "next-gen" title that showed the possibilities of the system.

I just don't see Sony pulling another PS3, showing a lot of CGI footage that they will never be able to adequately present in real time on future games.

Nor do I see Sony as having a lack of content to show.

I was just commenting on your claim that Xbox 360's launch was easy sailing for the most part; it was nothing of the sort.

As for who will show more pie in the sky footage, who knows. They're both guilty of sometimes getting ahead of themselves, Sony most notoriously with Killzone and MotorStorm, Microsoft with Project Natal vision videos. In the end, it doesn't matter. Announcements are important, but the whole leading up to launch and the launch itself will matter much more.

It better have a user accessible cablecard slot. That's all I ask. I'm done renting boxes from Comcast. That might work for some people though. $200 for the 720, and $30 a month which includes Live. Something along those lines.

It should be a cool product though. Jumping the long awaited Apple TV.

I really don't need the PS4 out yet. I need them to squeeze more out of my PS3. Durango? Fuck it, sure. We could use a system that could do Halo 5 in 1080p.

how would that be suckering someone?

if i cant afford it now, i really would not mind paying extra if i can pay little by little.

The Microsoft doom spreaders about this report make me laugh. Lots of Microsoft negativity here.

People don't realize Microsofts main goal was living room. From the very beginning. Not just games... Everything.

Control the living room.

But people seem to think Microsoft is in a panic mode because they aren't reacting to Sony - and that they're adding more revenue streams and potential game changers to their gambit.

Microsoft doesn't fuck around. People run around and scream "first parties! First parties" thinking that MS is clueless. Do people forget how quickly Microsoft ramped up their development studios prior to Xbox 1 launch?

Microsoft removed a lot of studios because they went risk averse. They needed to make Xbox profitable.

Now it is insanely profitable (E+D quarterlies don't paint how great Xbox is performing), they are in a position to become market dominant (momentum, revstream growth, have core and casual attention, Xbox being a household name) and they are going to come out swinging. No you won't see the ridiculous releases MS had in their first outing but you will see more B, A and AA titles coming from them as they now have the revenue streams to back up the risk. This is the make or break generation and they aren't going to skimp their way through it. This is Microsoft. This is their version 3.0. This is when they typically shine.

This system isn't just about games, it's about everything. Microsoft is NOT going to be ignoring core or just letting third parties do all the heavy lifting. They now have the ability to do some amazing stuff without ballmer breathing down their neck thanks to being profitable. They can now take ample risk to ensure market position strength.

I am excited to see what happens.

It is.

But even then it still fails. COD was one of the worst reviewed games in 10 years. That game was suppose to be the "it game" to make people want to buy a Vita

What does the failure of a craptastic game has to do with :

a- The hardware of the handheld?
b- Its ability to run console like games?

Your posts don't make any sense...
It is as if Sony, when unveiling the product, promised that COD would be great...Hint, they didn't develop it.

MS was also hyping E3 early on, no? There was some talk about GDC and a bit before E3 too. Guess the plan seems the same.

I couldn't care any less about any TV or social features, to be honest.

I'm just hoping the actual reveal for both is actually interesting. If they are really launching this holiday, it would be nice to have games to show and not only a bunch logos.

Personally, the idea of an all-in-one entertainment box never appealed to me. I like having a few different fallback options because, you know...shit breaks sometimes. I don't want to be without everything I pay monthly for if my 720 dies from being on all the goddamn time.

But at the same time, I don't have to use it that way. I just hope it doesn't take away from it being a video game system at the forefront.

I'd still be willing to bet Microsoft unveils the next Xbox within 30 days of the PS4 unveil. I just can't see Microsoft letting GDC happen and have developers talk about PS4 games while having to remain secretive on the new Xbox

Just like any heavily subsidized service or good. You get the equipment upfront for free or at incredibly low price and then commit to pay a monthly fee for a a few years. It would be more or less appellative if that fee includes some games and other extra services or not.

But I am just waiting for these last gen shackles to be cast off. I can't WAIT OMG

You ain't kidding. I feel like I am trapped in the movie Groundhog Day. This has been an uncomfortably long generation, and I hope one never lasts this long again.

That being said, dammit Microsoft, hurry up and at least show the thing. Do not allow Sony to start building its thunder so early and then have an even bigger blowout at E3.

Also, PS4 sounds like it is going to be a single unit and none of this multiple dumbed down version shit. It is starting to sound more and more like Sony has its shit together this gen whereas Microsoft doesn't know exactly what they want their next system to be or do.

Starting to get a little worried

Microsoft, listen to me and stop being stupid. One powerhouse, dedicated gaming system, one SKU, $499 and all bells and whistles included. The end.

I do think sony holds back on specs...so as to trump MS either through superior specs or spin after MS announces.

I see no reason for that, at all. The differences won't be anything to brag about.
February 20th will be about SPECS and overall philosophy (Cloud, Online...) behind the machine, with E3 serving as a plateform to show games and discuss pricing and launch details...

This is why I didn't go for it when the U-Verse guy asked. I've already replaced one of the things.

However, if they were going to give me an Xbox 720 at a reduced price with subscription, I would be tempted.

C'mon, man, haven't you ever watched wrestling?! Being announced last is always the best.

Sony has MS on the run.

Mind games and playing it like a game of Chess.

Kaz is going for the kill! My guess is that Sony will unveil the PS4 this month but hold back stuff for later to ruin the MS party. MS unveiling later also runs the risk of being overlooked when Nintendo show off what they've got.

Looks like Sony has won this one!

Reading this post reminds me of the bloodbath of bans the console announcement period is going to generate.

Bring it on.

It's Brera though. Although it's funny how the console war has already started with people not having seen a single freaking game for these machines which is why we buy them to begin with.

Focus testing makes more sense with a device than it does for a creative work honestly. But you can still have the same issues (what's that Ford quote about faster horses?) and as usual the problem with focus testing seems to be when they design by it, not simply take it into consideration as another opinion.

Funny how the GAF perception seems to be MS will fall flat on their face and Sony will hit a 1000 yard bomb out of the park :)

To be fair, the 360 console shell has not been really mindblowing.

Well the S model was pretty damn good

Either way they want to avoid another Xbox 1- while I loved that design, not everyone agrees with it. Needs to attract a lot of people and not just a small segment of the target audience.

It's basically the same thing that happens every E3. The reality is that MS usually falls on their face and Sony does as well the next day

Wait !

CELL could render games natively in 1080p...Where is the CELL Sony ?
It was ten times powerful than 360's cpu ?
bla bla bal terraflops calculations bla bla bla
Sony would use it as a gpu bla bla bla

Ok, sony..Our bodies and minds are ready for your new bullshits...

Controlling live tv with voice and gestures will be pretty cool. One thing you can bet on is that the next Xbox will have lots of content at your fingertips.

I am sure that the most important aspect of game console focus testing would be the controller. Yes, of course they will focus test the aesthetics of the console itself...but the controller must have even a higher priority.

They also will be focus testing the UI of the console, menu, dashboard, etc.

Some Sony guy said in reffering to ms, "powerful specs won't win this generation". I wonder if the Xbox will be more powerful or if this means nothing at all.
