I hate to break this to you but they've been pulling that bullshit in $60 games for a while now.
A lot of EA games have booster packs in multiplayer. Not new unfortunately.

Seriously Crytek, make this kind of work when it comes to the engine for other companies. They will love you for it. I don't think they know how to make gameplay that doesn't involve a gun...
I like how they admire what the character is doing, like "whoa look how he uses his shield to kill him" rather than "watch me use the shield to kill this guy". There is a visible shock to what the character does like it simply picks from a random kill animation. I think animations also need to be unlocked whether by game progress or other means wasn't clear.

Is this a joke post? You get HP for killing enemies in NG, GoW, Bayo,etc.
the only EA game i bought in my recent memory was nhl 2013 and they did have the card packs; which i didn't like much either (i admit tho;spend some money on that
). However that was EA and i knew what i was getting my self into when i bought the game. What I am surprised at is that 'first party' games are doing this.
Ryse is painful to watch. Awesome setting which looks to be marred in a boring, janky game.
Who is getting super excited about these execution moves. And the spear, you can spear a guy and it sticks in him as you fight him! Who cares lol.

god of wars combat is not only in another league, but in another universe.
Played and beat all of them, game is just run around slash and QTEs. Its mindless fun. Ryse looks to be the same, Im not seeing the OMFG ITS SO BAD stuff you guys are seeing.
Maybe im just not super negative hate everything like a lot of GaF this last month or 2.
That's....if you want to compare Ryse's combat to any game, compare it to Assassin's Creed or Arkham Whatever.
And at this point, I would like to mention that those games also heavily feature other gameplay mechanics and an open world.

That's cool, I'd love to share your taste here. The game just looks gorgeous. But again, not my cup of tea, but I'll check some more streams. I want to see the other chapters.
Dynasty Warriors also has you running around and slashing enemies, but it is nothing like God of War either. Don't boil the game down to that simple of terms to try and make your comparison make any sense.

You seem to be glossing over the many, many ways God of War is different from Ryse. It makes me wonder why anyone would consider your opinion of either one if you can't see the differences.

There's definitely more than 3 buttons you need to press in GOW. Yes it is mindless, but it's a bit more complex than what Ryse looks like.
You could also describe Bayonetta as run around and slash with some QTEs but that, Ryse, and God of War play nothing alike.

I don't think the combat looks horrible but then again I would purposely start as many fights in Arkham and Assassin's Creed as I could because I enjoyed the combat.

Assassin's Creed (now) sure, but Arkham? I know know. Arkham's combat may be simple to grasp, but there is at least some depth.
And I would argue that Assassin's Creed prior to 3 was trying to have some depth going on, but they threw that all away after Rev, so eh.

Christ, yes, Assassin's Creed *exactly*.
It's like Assassin's Creed's combat system put into a linear hallway/arena fighting game. DMC level design, Assassin's Creed combat. Worst of both worlds. :-|
Hope this is better than the PS4 stream.

God of War can be played mindlessly, but if you want to you can get creative with it. Ryse appears to force mindlessness through its very limited systems.

I wasn't talking about the depth, I would agree with you on this. It's more the "hit enemy until the counter sign shows up then counter." type of combat that I meant. You can of course have different levels of depth here.
In exactly the same way, God Of War and Ninja Gaiden feature the same type of combat, though with vastly different depth.

god of war has more variety in settings, characters, puzzles, level design, combos/moves list, weapons....just about everything. The hell are you talking about?

Well I am definitely looking forward to getting and playing Ryse this weekend. But it's pretty apparent from the get-go that God of War and Ryse are nothing alike. Ryse has it's own thing going.
