Polygon's marathon Xbox One live stream

They are actually quite level-headed.

Going into both consoles' pros and cons, praising the PS4 at least as much.

NeoGAF shoutout.

Says if you want to watch Netflix the Xbone is better than PS4 because it has a remote.
Doesn't mention that Netflix is gated behind XBLive.

Well it's not like he isn't going to have Gold. I have to agree with him on the remote thing. I HATE that I can't use my lovely PS3 official bluetooth remote on the PS4. It was all I ever used for media on PS3.

Switched off after the remote control talk

wtf

He was basically like all bow down guys, amirite?

Why does it have to be a joke? DS4s battery life is Eh, and I'd prefer to just use my rechargeable batteries too.

No it's fine, I honestly couldn't tell. The thought of having to bother with battery replacement is horrifying to me, but eh, whatever floats your boat friend!

The "PS4 has no games, XB1 has games" idea is so skewed

I think he said something more like 'the PS4 doesn't have the games that convince me to recommend this at launch, and the Xbox One has some', which isn't a ringing endorsement for either launch lineup.

"If I just wanted this for media, even if it is just Netflix, I'd get the xbox one" Not a direct quote

Really . . . really? Because everybody likes to extra for things they are already paying for

Well the 5 minutes I watched were pretty good. They were balanced, granted they didn't have nearly as many people at the table, so maybe it was some assholes bringing everyone else down for the PS4 one.

EDIT: Yeah the Netflix argument seemed uninformed or just not thinking about the paywall.

They didn't say that though did they.

Yup, they sure did. Maybe not those precise exact words, but they said it.

That's what I was referring to, only they expressed it as fact, not opinion (i.e. "for me").

I won't lie, I like AA batteries better too. I have two charging stations already for Wii controllers, and always have charged batteries ready to go. It's nice to not have to worry about a long cable when I forgot to charge my controller. Not to mention being able to just buy new batteries once they start degrading and not holding as much charge (anyone with a launch or 2nd revision PS3 controller, or an orignal 360 play-n-charge kit can probably appreciate that).

It's just an extra expensive that isn't necessary. I would be pissed if the DS4 had AA batteries.

Of course the context of the actual use cases the pointed out are irrelevant, who needs to bring that into the equation?

Forza is basically the big difference between the launch line ups, in terms of games worth a damn. I guess Zoo Tycoon too, but that seems like a neutered version of that franchise. So cute though.

Doesn't mention that Netflix is gated behind XBLive.

Games journalists get XBLG free so they can't accurately represent the interests of the consumers who actually care about managing their finances like that. Then they call gamers "entitled" for caring about things like this.

Definitely something Sony has to address in a future firmware update, I'm fine with using the controller since I'm really the only one in the house who uses the PS3.. and soon the PS4 for Netflix, but there's a lot who do prefer the remote.

They were just bigging up the PS4 controller and saying how well Sony did with it, of course people won't post about that on here.

uh....

Both commentators say they dislike the Xbone's shoulder bumpers. "It's like a step back."
Say they prefer the PS4 controller, which is surprising to them because they both preferred 360's last gen. Praising the headphone jack on DS4.

They agree DS 4 > Xbox One. Chalk one up for the bad guys.

I agree on everyone apart from McElroy, he just bugs me.

They are talking about TV overlay, some good points but no mention if the limitations on surround sound and image quality. You know Nilay Patel is jumping on during the Verge hour and ripping this to shreds.

Just now PS4 controller > XBOX controller

all before you as well

The "PS4 has no games, XB1 has games" idea is so skewed

Where was that kind of narrative in the last 4 years when 360 had almost nothing? It was entirely absent.

Now with meaningless launch lineups it's all about "has games" and "has no games" though. This fucking media drives me insane.

The thing about Polygon is that sometimes, they feel very uninformed for what is supposed to be a representation of gaming press.

Gies saying crazy stuff like "new IP, MS only."

Grant's ignorance about the indies or PS4 games that are in launch window. He keeps talking inFamous, inFamous, inFamous as if Sony only has that one game in Q1. And his stupid Titanfall mistake.

Plante is... he's a joker. Fun guy, but I dislike his brand of humour.

I am really enjoying seeing all your posts about "lol Polygon MS shills" while listening to the Polygon guys talk about how much better they like the DualShock 4 than the Xbox One controller.

Come on, man. It's at least a case of confirmation bias on their part. They went into these streams and "reviews" knowing full well who was going to get the better score off the bat.

The reason netflix on xbox one is better than ps4 is because it can use a remote controller instead of gamepad? Really? A gamepad is just another form of controller.

They didn't say that though did they.

They did, after a fashion. It was odd. I think they'd be better served having said that both consoles have games, the PS4 has a lot more gaming coming out in the short term, but the lineups of exclusive content will be down to preference. Saying that the PS4 doesn't have games to be worth buying the platform for, or that the ONE has 'unquestionably the better lineup' is just bias.

it hasn't been that bad so far. the remote control thing is amusing but the guy was using it to contrast the priorities of the two systems, which was a decent point. all games journalists are bad at mentioning the xbl pay gate because they get it for free and don't think about it. everything else has been even-handed.

gies will eventually create a black hole of awfulness though. it's only a matter of time.

i will use the ps4 for netflix because i don't have to pay a subscription fee to access it

but games jounalists get xbl for free sooo
If you want to get involved in online play at all you have to pay up for Live or Plus. If you are buying these new systems I think it becomes somewhat of a given that you are signing up for the yearly subscriptions they offer.

There must be some other way to indicate low health besides de-saturating the entire screen and that red smear.
Developers stop doing this please.

I like the Xbox One controller approach, especially since the batteries can be recharged without taking them out of the controller. So on the surface, it's no different than PS4.
However, charging $60 and not including the two rechargable batteries is where it goes wrong for them. This greedy nickle and diming is horrible.

AA > inbuilt rechargable. Aside from the fact that Eneloops are better than any similarly sized battery I've ever used, I can have a set fully charged and waiting to switch in when the two in the controller die. So not only does my controller last longer, but I NEVER have to plug a wire into it.
Don't most people have at least one more controller? I always have my second controller charged and ready to go. Besides I find swapping controllers every time I play extends their life significantly, which I do for both my 360 and ps3 controllers.

Also I'm still running an original sixaxis and one of the first DS3 controller both work fine besides the analogues which feel looser.

Wut? Just buy a second controller for local mutliplayer and rotate the controllers when you are playing games by yourself.

That doesn't sound like a much more expensive and labor-intensive solution than just spending $10 on some Eneloops that are always ready no matter what?

AAs are better for me as well, by far. If my controller dies I'm out a whole 15 seconds. When my DS3/DS4 dies I either have to stop playing or go sit next to the damn thing with a cord attached. For me, that is stupid. I'd buy a replacement DS4 that took AA's in a heartbeat.

It's just an extra expensive that isn't necessary. I would be pissed if the DS4 had AA batteries.

As opposed to buying a second controller so you can rotate them out as they charge? Or buying the extra long cable so you can charge while playing? Or just sitting on the floor next to your TV and use the short cable? No thanks. At least the AA's have the added benefit of working in a ton of other things around the house. Also, buying replacement AA's is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a whole new controller.
