Yah

You don't think most of those games between GT1 and GT4 were eventually sold? What do you think happened, they were shipped back and burned somewhere in New Mexico? The only reason it says "shipped" is because GT5Prologue is a current game.

2004/12/28 Gran Turismo 4 (Japan) 1.23M
2001/04/28 Gran Turismo 3 A-spec (Japan) 1.89M
1999/12/11 Gran Turismo 2 (Japan) 1.71M
1997/12/23 Gran Turismo (Japan) 2.55M

So Gran Turismo 2, 3, and 4 didn't beat the original GT's sales in Japan? That's... surprising.

Yah. Because there are soooo many copies of GT1, GT2, & GT3 still sitting in stores...
You know, I'm often surprised at how the stores in my area (Wal-mart, Target, Sears, etc.) are littered with PSone Greatest Hits and often sold in packs of 2 or 3 (Tekken 1-3 are also common titles).

PSone had a damn long lifespan. 0_0

Really nice numbers..
Numbers-wise, seems that the series peaked with GT3, then GT4 did around the same GT2 did (though '4' had Prologues].

The series has dropped a lot in Japan and NA, but maintained momentum in Europe.
A very strange trend.

Well, I had friends that I used to play a lot of LAN (over firewire) GT3 with, and we were all into GT, but very few of us got GT4 (I wouldn't have got it if I didn't get such a good deal, got a DFP and GT4 for $99 at Best Buy). So going from 7 mil to just under 3 mil in North America doesn't surprise me at all.

Perhaps the GT series is picking up in Europe due to the expansion of the Rally portion over the iterations?

In another thread I commented on how Sony allows PD to take their take and doesn't pressure them into any release window, because they probably realize that PD's perfectionism translates to megasales.

Well Sony does give them release dates to meet, Kaz says they just ignore them though.

48 million satisfied electronics departments
There's a Meijer store closing here and they have literally hundreds of copies of A-Spec that they must have had stored away in the back and pulled out when they had to get rid of them.

Imagine if it was actually advertised! I've only seen 1 commercial ever for GT2.
Something tells me if GT5 arrives before the holidays this year, Sony will advertise the shit out of it. That franchise is capable of moving systems like no other exclusive PS3 game.

I think everyone realized that GT4 was going to be the same freaking game that GT3 was (which was the same game that GT2 was, except with an incredible graphics update). Are they going to be making GT5 the same freaking game that GT4 was, instead of giving it a shot in the arm? I sure hope their sales expectations are in line

Oh ok, didn't know that, thanks.

So I guess they don't put up a fight as they know it's the polish and attention to detail that sells the game.

Well if GT5 does come out with all the features promised for it...it'll be a large leap. Compared to the previous iterations, I think this is the largest leap in features yet.

Yeah he basically just says that while they want the game out at a certain time they give them the time they need to release the game they want.

America loves GT3 more than Europe, but Europe loves GT4 more than America.

Let's see who wins GT5!
Japan!
