Popular games you just don't get/like.

It's pretty obvious from this comment you haven't put much time in Gran Turismo. Some moments in GT4 create such an incredible sense of speed that frankly it has yet to be matched in any product I have encountered (not including Forza, I have not played that).

You're absolutely right. I didn't put an excessive amount of time into it. However I couldn't bare the torture of getting to the good stuff. The beginning cars sucked so hard it was ridiculous. How it compares to real life is beyond me. Anyway, I'm more into arcadey type racers , so the game felt broken to me. different strokes for different folks I guess.

To those who think it's retarded to like GoldenEye single player over HALO, stfu. Seriously. I played just as much fps console games as anyone else out there and I still to this day love my experience with goldeneye the best(for consoles anyway). The level design was great.. The mission system was kickass. The way enemies reacted to where they were shot etc... It was just pure fucking awesome. Halo didn't compare to me. It felt like a generic space shooter. I don't see why people busted a nut over it.. and before you label me a Nintendo fanboy, i do have an Xbox and love it. But guess what games I don't have? halo/halo 2. lol

I still don't think anyone has topped Goldeneye for the type of game it is(the only game close is perfect dark). EA sucks at attempting to recreate the magic. No PC game comes close either. The only game I have hope for is Perfect Dark 2. You Xbox fanboys may finally see what kickass really is when that sucker drops!! *rock*

Halo is my most epic experience on videogames.
ok, I will stop now

Oh, and you shouldn't buy Dropship, because you think Ace Combat is hard. Clearly you aren't ready for a balls-out badass air combat game. XD

hmm interesting, i need to check this game out. But I still love Ace Combat, the presentation, graphics, music and the gameplay (for me) is a lot of fun.

Metroid series (Metroid Prime games were fun at first, but backtracking is simply much more boring in a 3d environment).
Agreed. The lack of screw attack or boost boots to speed up the later stages of backtracking made things even more tedious. Part of the reason backtracking is actually enjoyable in the 2D games is that by the time it's really extensive, you have the abilities to blow right through enemies you've encoutered before.

Aiming felt shitty and random to me, especially with headshots, seeing the end of the laser beam was also REALLY hard (on my TV)
Have you had your eyes checked lately? (not meant to be rude) I always found it really easy to see the red dot, even on small objects far away like flying crows, etc. Or maybe it's time for a new TV? Shouldn't let that get in the way of your enjoying a remarkable game.

Final Fantasy 7: I assume the rest of the Final Fantasies as well by extension. May be a bit of a leap of faith, that, but I played this game and felt like I was just slogging through it for no good reason other than to see the next cutscene in a story I didn't really care for.

Metal Gear Solid 2: I actually finished and more or less enjoyed the original MGS. But I never finished Sons of Liberty. Just didn't find it all that fun, but the graphics were nice. And the story ... oh, the story... sheesh. There are better stealth games. Hell, I like Manhunt better than this.

Tekken: I've played 1, 2, 3 and tag, all a fair bit. I thought that they would, at some point flip a switch and I'd see the goodness. I haven't and I've given up. They're alright, but I'd rather play Virtua Fighter.

Gran Turismo: A series I used to really enjoy. I bought my Playstation (my own -- I was on the road and didn't have access to my brother's I'd used until that time) to play this game, and I played it a lot. I bought GT3, and got bored with it quick. Rented GT4. Felt the same way, in spite of the wicked cool photo mode. In fact, that mode is the only reason I even rented the game.

Zelda (any): So I've played Zelda, Zelda 2, and Ocarina of Time. I know they're popular, but I just can't get into them. I guess you can say I'm not one for puzzles (which is true), but it's more than that, because there are puzzly games I've played and enjoyed.

Mario 64 (and by extension, Sunshine): I played and liked it enough for a while -- it was game #2 or 3 I got with my N64. But it got tiresome to me pretty quick, and in the end it was traded away.

No, I called someone an idiot for saying that Halo was a "generic PC FPS" and then creaming over Goldeneye. You can pan Halo for poor level design, poor weapon balance, and poor whatever you want, but it certainly doesn't play like any other FPS out there (because of the shield). Goldeneye didn't do anything that PC games weren't doing - it just put it all together in a nice package. That's the difference. And I don't give a shit if you own an xbox or not, you're clearly letting fanboyism get in your way of good judgement if you feel any other way.

Edit : And if you read into my argument, I'm not saying that Halo is an innately more likeable or better game. I'm just saying it inroduced gameplay elements that weren't part of a FPS before, so therefore it's not derivative. Oftentimes highly polished games that are just well-developed are simply better (look at Blizzard games for an example of this), so if you like Goldeneye more good for you. Just don't start flinging shit when you don't know what you're talking about.

Gran Turismo (and all "driving simulation" games) - I guess you have be obsessed with cars in general to enjoy these games, because I'm not, and this game was boredom on a disc.

These threads obviously have a cathartic usage as we see them every month or so, but a suggestion? No getting worked up into a defense of your favorite game getting shit on. Your favorite game is going to get shit on.

Key reason why most people don't get Halo or think it sucks=they suck balls at it.And people who think GE is a better game really must love that auto aim, haha.

Fact! :D

Anyways...

GTA=Broke ass controls, lame missions that rely more on luck than skill, did I mention the awful controls?Seriously,it feels like a PSX game as far as controls go.

Really the only game I have a problem with...I've bought all 3 of them on PS2 even though I know at the end of the day I'll become bored with them.

Sports games in general. I just get very frustrated because I feel like I'm not in complete control of what's happening. I used to love them though. I still play them once in a while.

The Resident Evil series - until RE4.

:lol so true... every big name game has been shit on in here. multiple times. :lol

Gran Turismo series- played 1 and 2 on PSone. Never really got THAT into them but put some time into both games, but with 3 is when i realized that the racing aspect just isn't that fun to me. I can respect the time and effort polyphony puts into it, but its just boring to me.

Madden - crap game every year with little to no improvements

Final Fantasy - I simply cannot get into any of the games. The battles, pacing, and just about everything about the Final Fantasy series bores me. I was one of the few people during the FF7 launch that wasn't really "wow"ed by the cinematics of the game.

I can't believe how many of you hate GT. Cars must not do much for you. Ah well, it will still sell a gazillion copies.

If it's any consolation, I'm just indifferent. I prefer my racers to have arcade controls, not sim controls.

I thought the same thing in regard to the Zelda haters.

I almost understand the Viewtiful Joe hate. Some people are just weaksauce gamers. ;)

Everyone loves this game so far:

I know I'll get flamed for this, but I hated NiGHTS. Even with the special controller I don't understand why it's fun. You just hold right while occasionally going up and down to go through rings:P

I didn't realize I didn't know what I was talking about because MY OPINION is halo feels like a generic pc game I've played a million times before. Name one game that has successfully duplicated Goldeneye's experience(besides possibly perfect dark?)? I never said anything about it being ground breaking, I just had MORE FUN PLAYING IT. It was a tighter package to me. The levels were smartly designed from beginning to end. The missions were a blast to play through etc.. Halo was run and gun and that's it. Sorry, but that shit is stale to me. You have a problem with that mister sensitive? Jesus. :lol

Yeah same here. That's why I haven't mentioned Forza or GT series. Not a fan of the sim genre as a whole. Gimme an arcade style racer with a ton of licensed and/or customizable cars and I'm happy. :)

Kotor

the game was ugly, and well, just not enough action for me. I heard the story rocked, but I would rather watch it with some popcorn.

Of course, very few RPGs do it for me

These are games that I just don't get:

Virtua Fighter 4 - Mainly to put 30hrs mastering a single character. If I want to learn Karate, I'll subscribe to a karate school.

Anything from Rare - I thought I might like Banjo-Kazooie but got bored after finding the 500th things (out of 4000 probably) I had to collect.

Sports games played alone - When you're with friends, ok. Alone, I don't see the fuzz.

PS2's platforming games - They look good but I'm just not drawn to them

Mobile games - Come on, buy at least a GBA to play a decent version of CastleVania!

And so on...

H A L O 1 & 2
Metal Gear Solid series (3's story was good though)
Any MMORPG
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Splinter Cell (all of em)
Any Dragon Quest (thats right bitches)
FFVIII, X, XI
Any GTA past 2
Madden
Pokemon

I read a couple, and most of the time the people that don't get a game (i.e. Grand Theft Auto or Halo) are people that didn't play the game enough or aren't informed enough.

Welcome to gaming.

Pikmin - First game that made me fall asleep on my chair. Definition of boring

Metriod Prime - horrible controls, backtracking sucked all the excitment, enemies and samus herself look generic and dull.

GT - I tried out 1,2 and 3, they all suck. im crap at sims which explains my hatred for the genre (loooking to buy Forza soon though)

Eternal Darkness - Horrible game, tired environments, poorly executed combat

Tales of Symphonia - I actually hate this game, i hate everything about it. Crap characters, crap dialogue, crap story, crap music, everything about this game sucked. Had no real direction in terms of story, characters were totally forgettable, i will never buy a tales game ever again. Unless we see some major improvement.

Phantom Dust - Depressing, crap combat

Welcome to gaming.

Ive played gta and halo plenty. thanx

It is not like I made it up. You acknowledged your lack of skills in racing games as the key to your hate for them. I changed some words to reflect your lack of skills in other games.

:)

Ths is like when you're at the market and you want to follow some dead beat mom outside and watch her loose it on her screaming kids. I love to see you guys loose it within these threads, heh.

How can hating Zelda be possible? Of course people are entitled to their own opinion, but wow.............

I can generally except every type of game and find some enjoyment in it

Ok one more game on my list...

God of War.

I like it actually, but it's over rated. I almost turned it off for good just now but I upgraded my blades and thought the new attacks were cool and kept on. I'll still finish it but so far (imo!) there is NO WAY God of War is even close to the 9.8 ign gave it or 1up's 10 iirc. Those scores put it on the same level as Resident Evil 4 (probably my all time favorite, tied with Ocarina of Time/Mario 64).

Edit:

Btw why were people saying God of War has a fixed camera? It moves with kratos (not behind him) just fine and I haven't had any problems with it so far.

Majora's Mask

Pretty much any non-AKI wrestling game

Yes, and this is fact. I watched in vain as a guy at Gamestop going around to each person that worked there to say something, to provide the smaller glimmer of hope that that new Wrestlemania game for Xbox was good. Even other customers were shitting on it. This charade went on for 10 minutes. Against all bad press, he bought it anyways. And to think, I hate the PS2 ones more. 15 Stone Cold Stunners in a row might have something to do with it.

Halo 1 : Played it and got deja vu all over the place.

GTA : entire series I spend 5 minutes blowing civilians away then 5 minutes blowing cops away, 5 minutes blowing the army away and am bored for the rest of the day.

Splinter cell 1 : I observed some one finish it and disliked immensly the fact that you could get away with killing just about every one on the levels. I mean stealth people!!!!!

Halo - Controls are nice but the story is a jumbled mess and it suffers from hideous level design

Any EA sports game - I have no interest in sports, why would I wanna play a simulation of sports?

Sim Racing - too dry for me

Anything from RARE, especially Goldeneye

Any Squad Based Combat games, WWII/Vietnam games, and Stealth games that aren't Metal Gear

The Sims - what the hell? I like playing *games* not clicking on stupid people

Zelda:OOT - Thought the 2D ones were much more fun to play

For everyone who is ragging off on turn-based/Japanese style RPGs, STOP LISTENING TO LAMESTREAM GAMERS/GAFERS.

If the issue is ADD/need to have frantic action, then there's nothing that can be done about that.

But if the issue is the absolute mindlessness of archaic battle systems introduced 15 years ago, yet is still implemented today, then stop listening to popular opinion. There are quite a few excellent examples of jRPGs that have evolved the genre into something that's fun to actually play, and not read. Grandia, Growlanser & PDS all show that turn based (well, actually semi-realtime) can have a lot of strategy and depth.

Gran Turismo
Grand Theft Auto
Splinter Cell
KOTOR
Viewtiful Joe
Jade Empire
Shenmue
3D Mario games
Metroid Prime 1&2
Smash Bros
Madden
Jak
Nintendogs
Every Zelda game besides OOT

Zelda (any incarnation) : I just don't get it. There's absolutely nothing special about these games, oh, and, Beyond Oasis/Legend Of Oasis were miles better.

GTA : Everythng feels too random for my tastes. I hate the graphics style, the controls, the stories, etc.

Metroid Prime : First person game without first person ajusted controls, count me out.

Need For Speed Underground 1 and 2 : Race at night in a city where it seems to rain everyday, and customize your car to make it look good. The customization "community" is already retarded as hell, as it's looks over usefullness, but they look like brainiacs compared to the customization "virtual community" where it's "cool" to customize a car you don't even have for real. Face it, you got no one in the game to impress with that.

MGS and Splinter Cell series. I just don't know who came up with the idea that stealth games are fun. Feels like an out control hype machine created a horrific genre.

Capcom Zeldas: They just are no comparison to Nintendo Zeldas. I gave up on Minish Cap after the obligatory minecart dungeon.

LEGO Starwar - Never played it, but I don't get the block/movie connection.

Top Bottom
