Portal 2 TV Advertisement Revealed

Supposedly Pyro has been done for years, but they've been sitting on it because they want it to be the last one. I shit you not.

I really hope we get another ARG before the Portal 2 release. Preferably one that culminates in the announcement of HL 3, but another one all the same. I know "something" is coming, but I'd imagine Valve would want to do something different.

I think they've stalled Meet the Medic this long because it's going to cost more to bring in Robin Atkin Downes for VA work than it would the other voice actors (many of which are just employed by Valve, IIRC). He was the first class to get a class update, yet the only class to receive absolutely no new voice work then or since. My guess is they want to backlog as many possible ideas for what they need from him as they can, have Meet the Medic as done as it can be, then bring him back for one marathon recording session and get it all done.

I thought it was "Meet the Medic" that has supposedly been done for years, but they keep on going back to it and changing the video because they haven't found a version that they are happy with.

I was going to get the PS3 version too since its just a free console copy. But I'm only going to play it on the PC, so I'm just buying it on steam. I cant wait for the single player. Co-op should be good too.

April 21, right guys?

Fuck.......that's not enough time to finish the Half Life series.......

Yeah, that's the Aussie retail release date, although I imagine the Steam version will unlock on the US release date.
I hope as much!

April 21 lands on a Thursday...

So if I pre-order from Amazon..

It should be there by the time I come home from work.

Who is going to co-op the night away? Those of you who thirst for HL related info will jump right into the SP, I suppose. Right now I feel like coop... getting enough story drilled into my skull (and in a not so friendly way) as it is.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they have region specific Steam unlocks.

I can't recall if the Orange Box (well the Black Box in my case) unlocked according to the US release date, and I still don't own L4D2 due to the censorship.

He has a point. The best game of the year tends not to win usually.

Skyrim, maybe. But after what happened to DA2, I don't like how Bioware handles their sequels.

E10+? i'm surprised there's no blood. or does this mean the player character is a robot now? FUCK, DON'T TELL ME

There was no blood in the original Portal, aside from the messages on the wall.

And because I wasn't sure I was remembering correctly, I Googled "Portal wall messages" (minus quotes) and found an example of such that has log-in details for Cave Johnson.

I had no idea he was referenced in the original to any degree. Or maybe I'd just forgotten.

I had a hard enough time with the original Portal in single-player.

...but I can imagine nailing down coordination with a second player is going to be hellish.

"Shoot an orange one over there! Fuck, no, too late, dammit, try again. Alright....NOW! FUCK TOO EARLY GODDAMMIT!"

And so on.

Here's hoping the piddling Radeon 5670 in my iMac is up to the task.

That they would be adding those as pre-order items. Pre-orders have been active for some time now and the game's just a month away.
They clearly just aren't done with the Engineer PDA replacement!

There was blood when you got shot by the turrets. they prolly took the blood out (which would do nothing to the game)

welcome to the year 1998/2007

I've only played half of Half-Life 1 and that was several years ago on the PS2...

Same here. I never had a machine capable of playing Half-Life. So while I've played its sequel and the sequels "episodes" at least a half-dozen times I've never played the original game.

I was planning on picking it up for my Dreamcast but we all know how that went.

Edit: The TV ad for The Orange Box was fantastic as well.

It's hard to hate GlaDOS' voice.

Ah, that's right, haha. Portal being given a Teen rating seems a bit harsh when compared against something such as the Uncharted series, so perhaps the ESRB were a little more forgiving this time around.

I doubt they've taken the blood out entirely or even toned it down. It wouldn't make much sense to do so. In fact, it would be impossible to tone down the blood effects without removing them altogether.

I think they could. The amount of blood was quite a bit in the first game. Smaller splotches could get them a lighter rating

What would be the point, though? It's not as though Valve's intended audience for the game falls below the "Teen" demographic.

*shrug*

We'll find out in a month!

BUT It'S E10! The game is for babies now. Valve is going the kiddie route

First time playing through Portal was one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life! I'll never forget the several "Ah-HA" moments I had. Portal 2 has been at the top of my list since the E3 reveal, and while I'm anxious for the single player, co-op portals with my friends is shaping up as possibly the biggest highlight me. This TV ad is great for introducing the mechanics to a large audience who have probly never heard of Portal before. Day one folks. Day one :D
