Possible cyberattack against US internet infrastructure

Maybe. Too early to know. Could be another state actor it could also be a non-state criminal attack targeting Dyn.

Looks like it's getting worse : http://downdetector.com/status/level3/map/

Ya, the attack has spread to the West Coast:

I can't wait to change a million Passwords in about an hour.

just turn on 2factor for the important ones. i don't even bother using different passwords for a majority of my non-critical accounts now. hacker gonna post as me on gaf and get me banned? lol

Damn. PSN, Spotify, Reddit and Twitter. They know where to hit us the hardest. Once they get to the porn sites we are all doomed. Doomed I tell you!

Why would you have to change passwords? Isn't this just a DDOS attack? They aren't stealing passwords right?

Whoever "They" are wants to be doing something that they don't want anyone to see. Whatever that may be. Probably just on the safe side to start changing passwords and 2 stepping anything that can be.

YUP.

One of our company servers was offline for 2 hours this morning.

It's already back up though.

We temp-switched to another DNS host.

Comcast was running fine all morning though, so we could connect to all the usual spots as normal. We just had a single remote server that we had to reroute.

In fact, it think it's over now.

Whatever they used, it was pretty easy to adjust to. For us anyway.

So I'm not anywhere near the affected area, but if that's the case then folks can just switch to Google DNS and call it a day, right?
The area map is where the servers you are trying to access are located, not where people are browsing from.

I'm using Google DNS and access to companies using Dyn are being flaky and some are being slow to load as it tries presumably additional DNS servers.

Note I am in the UK, not the US East Coast.

Somebody call up Trump's son. I hear he can do unbelievable things with computers. Things ordinary people would think are hardly doable.

So we can rule out state actor?

lol I have no idea who launched it.

It looks more like a spam attack than a complicated SQL attack. All you need is a couple thousand PCs or virtual machines to spam a server or even a single port to screw up web connections.

I have no idea where it originated from though. It's probably being blasted through proxies anyway, so good luck tracking them down.

It's pretty smart to take down DNS. The sites aren't actually down, but they might as well be down since user's computers don't know how to find them. Talk about your single point of failure.

I can report that Sweden is affected by the DDOS attack or another one. Our cinema servers(taking care of the whole of Sweden) where ticket info etc are have been knocked out snd similar reports are incoming.

Looking forward to these attacks to grow and more and more businesses will be on board with internet 2.0. Some people have to ruin things for everyone else.

From Germany and my Twitter app doesn't load images (and occasionally doesn't load Tweets at all).

Spotify works fine.

Didn't Russia bring down Sweden's Air Traffic control recently?
