Technically it's this:

Maze (Cartridge 4) on the Rowtron Television Computer System

But, to be fair, that's a simple 'get to the end of the maze' puzzle; no real structure other than that test. The first game of any substance I beat would probably be:

Witchfiend on the ZX Spectrum

Can't believe I was so much better at gaming as a child.

Today I wouldn't have the patience or skills to get half-way through this game.

I've grown soft. :(

I'm adjusting the rules, OP. I'll post the first game I remember beating that hasn't already been posted yet. :P

I don't remember what it was. It could have been Kung-fu but I remember finishing Contra and Trojan for sure. That's the earliest I can remember finishing something.

I am pretty sure this is the first I properly beat. Spent so much time playing the first portions of games back then and never beating them!

It would've been Super Mario Brothers, but it was too difficult since I was really young. Or at least that the excuse I've been telling myself.

Not sure if I actually beat it or not, I was too young to remember, but it was definitely the first game I ever played, and I did so extensively, so I guess I probably did:

This one I'm certain I beat and if Alley Cat wasn't my first, this was:

Yep.

Prior to this, the concept of "beating" a game was a purely abstract concept to me. None of my friends had ever beaten any of their games, and while I knew it was possible, it was like... It was possible I could grow up and be president level achievability...

I had to stop at blockbuster multiple times to read the strategy guide in order to get past some of the more clever parts. Then had to rent the game after owning because my game had a scratch that would not let me past a certain section of the game, which I thought was just a puzzle ended up being a glitch. My first game beaten that opened the doors for new experiences to be tried and accomplished. A great game indeed. :)
