Post an image that describes your perfect game

Another one for me is this illustration from Chrono Trigger. Theres a bunch of these but this one illustrates really fun gameplay, a tactical approach and a fantastic world thats extremely appealing to me.

With more time I can probably find a "better" image, but for now this will do, since it illustrates several ways in which Resident Evil 4 is as close to perfect as a game can get for me.

In this picture, Leon looks like he can be overwhelmed by a large group of enemies. However, it shows why he won't: The absolutely flawless combat mechanic in the game. The laser sight allows for more precise and targeted aiming, and the over the shoulder camera angle while shooting allows you to see pretty much all of the enemies. I have yet, to this day, engage in more satisfying combat. (Tomb Raider 2013 does come close in the combat satisfaction level, though).

This game was a watershed moment in my personal gaming history. Prior to this game, I played fighting games exclusively. After this game, I started actively seeking out and enjoying games in other genres -- shooters, action games, etc. But this game remains my personal favorite, and this screenshot is a great way to illustrate that.

*EDIT* Ugh I got beat, even with the same image lol

Pretty much shows everything that's memorable about this game. Easily one of my favorite memories running away from that chainsaw fucker holing up in the houses.

Liked the original concept of Horizons where other players in the persistent online space are the content.

Myriad of player races including distinctly non-human species, each with special circumstances and environments. For example: Ssslik are cold blooded reptiles whose stats are affected by, among other things, ambient temperature - primarily applies to their speed and movements. Player dragons that take lots of time (two years irl) to mature into Ancients, the most powerful, and whose stats are affected by their treasure hoards - raiding parties would be require to PvP them down with the reward being their treasure hoard and body parts for crafting gear.

Immersive mech pilot experience. Kind of like what Steel Battalion was trying to do but with optional (awesome) huge controller. Open world with central hubs and private hangars for players and guilds. Customization wet dreams come to life for mech / pilot avatars.

Dynamic narrative based on player outcomes.

Jagged Alliance - a diverse roster of fully voiced, unique characters with relationships that make having them on the same team easier/harder.

I'm not crazy about the first Zelda game, but this art speaks to me on a profound level about what the series means to me and my childhood:

Yup this is mine for sure, saw it for the first time during my lurking on gaf days and always wanted a Zelda game open like that artwork since i saw that. BotW will surely be my dream game.

I agree so much, it emits such a sense of wonder an adventure, and thats the thing I love about snes rpgs, you had these amazing box arts than the obviously limited game, but because of that imagery you filled in the blanks yourself and it just made for such amazing atmosphere, particularly in the mana series

well said. there's a novelistic quality to many snes and older rpgs where your imagination just runs wild.

I'd love to see competent developers make modern games based on the above pieces of box art. Those would be the best games in the history of video games.

sigh

I never get tired about whining how often people don't bother reading before they post.

The image is from ffxiii-2. Granted i disliked xiii so much that i've never played the sequels, this one image is what a great rpg would be: interesting looking world, multiple characters on screen, good graphics, etc etc.

"Map" ouuuuh.
"Skills" *moan*
"Crafting" oh yes!
"Progress" ... "XP" ... "some kind of currency!" *climaxes*

the "Co-Op" is kind of a turn-off, though, ... but i'll just leave the lights off.

Futuristic open world with a large amount of vertical exploration, rather than across flat empty land.

Pretty much. Like GTA but more vertically oriented, with flying vehicles and shit. I don't even need it to be futuristic, get creative and let me explore!

We get so many beautifully detailed sandbox cities, but most of them are just recreations of places we can visit in real life. There's so much untapped potential.

Should this be real-time in-game graphics I would melt. Perhaps the Switch will finally make it possible. Or really, just make a MegaTen with an updated P5 engine that's actually PS4 native, not PS3.

These are the standouts in this threat in my opinion. All of them just make me want to go on an adventure.

Here's my contribution. I've always really loved this piece. It screams "brutal, depressing, isolated, dark fantasy adventure" to me.

I've been itching for some kind of underwater exploration game for a while now. These kind of photos and illustrations speak to my love for swimming and desire to return to the ocean, where I haven't been since I was a child. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

Have you ever tried Endless Ocean 1 or 2 on the Wii? They seem like exactly what you're after. I hope they'll make a spiritual sequel to that on the Switch.
