Post your favorite Castlevania tracks!

The very first stage in Dracula's Curse:

This song will never leave me, i know SMB stage 1 is more iconic and basically represents the Nintendo Entertainment System as a whole, but to me Castlevania 3 music will never leave me, i keep humming it to this day. Even during my play through of Lords of Shadow, i turned this song up.

It would be easy to just throw down the entire SotN soundtrack (Dracula's Castle, Crystal Teardrops and Wood Carving Partita being my favourites).

But for varieties sake i'm going with...

Jaws of a Scorched Earth
It pleases me to see this one in Arukado's list but I have to mention it myself, the OoE soundtrack has this nice moody style to it that I think is quite underrated or at least not often spoken of, this track is easily my favourite from the game.

The Pinnacle
While it's not quite the finale of DoS when you reach this point this track conveys that feeling of heading up the final stretch.

I could keep going but there's enough in this thread.

Aria of sorrow version gave me goose bumps.
The only thing holding it back was the GBA, and then Harmony of Despair came to the rescue.

This is actually my first time hearing the origins of Crucifix Held Close which was always one of my favourite tracks in PoR, didn't The Hidden Curse come from the same game?

Most of the music in Harmony of Dissonance was forgettable. Except Corridor of Marble, which is a banger. Just wish it were composed on something a little less tinny.

I forgot about that one! I hated most of the soundtrack, but I recall really enjoying corridor of marble. It layers very nicely. The game was a lot of fun, and really weird.

I really like "after confession" from DoS.

and I think it has the best version of bloody tears.

What other Castlevania had a version of this, or am I just hearing the parts "borrowed" from the tracks of the first two games? I played CV3, but it was probably the one I played the least out of the classics, yet that song is instantly recognizable--I swear I've heard it much more than simply from that game.

Okay, GAF, I forgive. my boy Richter getting a lot of love on this page. :D

Speaking of which, anyone here still play Harmony of Despair? 360 or PS3?

Wrong. And the explanation is already in the quoted post: "Some people can't recognize good music unless it's 8/16 bit"

Shadow of the Colossus' fantastic soundtrack is "generic film music" for you too then, right?

This explains nothing. Castlevania has excellent CD quality music entries in its library to build off. You're making it seem as though SoTN had chiptunes.

It's music that is mostly reminiscent of the upbeat chiptunes of earlier games in the series.

Just because LoS's soundtrack isn't that doesn't mean it's bad. These are actually fucking amazing compositions.

Normally, I'm not really into orchestral music either. All that epic LotR stuff does nothing for me. But the LoS and SotC sountracks are something else. Especially the calm tracks.

It wasn't bad actually, just lackluster and for a franchise that prides itself on the music selection, 'generic film music' was a monumental step back.

SoTC got away with it because there was nothing to compare it with (not that I'm calling SoTC's OST lackluster). LoS doesn't get a pass.

It was neither lackluster nor "generic film music". Get yourself some taste, man.

"got away with it"... jesus. You don't get music, do you?

Wow, Last I checked I promoted music from Lament of innocence, which isn't part of 8/16 era. It's mostly all new stuff too.

So Get a grip. If you like it, more power to you. LOS's composer decided to do his thing and I found it not very intriguing, generic. Hell I don't like GOW's music either. You ain't gonna change my mind about it.

Nice choices!
Thanks! I forgot some games thought (AoS, DoS, CoD)

Is mine too, no doubt. It's the reason why I played the game.

To me, Castlevania Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness had the best soundtracks ever for a Castlevania game.

I love love it when it's sorta dark mix of classical and electro music. Less gospel possible.
A song that got me instantly when LOI came out was Anti-Soul Mystery Lab.

Yamane is a God.

This. And IMHO, Lament of Innocence is the best Castlevania game out there together with SOTN. Haven't played Curse of Darkness much enough to rate it. But the PS2 Castlevanias are two diamonds.

The problem is the music in LoS is just background noise. It may be technically accomplished and enjoyable to listen to on it's own but it does nothing to really lift the game or make an impression. CV64 soundtrack is nothing like the previous stuff either but every track is distinctive and immediately brings you back to that moment in the game. It still creates a roadmap of the game that LoS fails to do. The problem is video game music has different goals than a film score does. They are two very different mediums and the LoS composer failed to realize that.

I haven't seen it posted yet, but one of my favourite Lament of Innocence tracks is Leon's Theme:

The piano work is excellent, I love how it starts to get epic about a minute in, goes through some old school Castlevania style at 1m15 and then kicks into all kinds of awesome at 1m55. Lament of Innocence's soundtrack is one of the best in the series.

I really need to sit down and listen to the soundtrack again. I was too disappointed with the rest of the game to pay much attention to it at the time.

Actually, LoS soundtrack fits the style of the game and more importantly - the flow of the gameplay/moment to moment action - perfectly. You can't have the same kind of upbeat, catchy and repeating tune in this kind of game. I'd be overbearing and wouldn't fit the progression at all (because it's not as steady as in the 2D sidescrollers or the N64 games, the pace changes a lot). And, at least for me, there were many instances where I actively listened to the music and thought to myself "awesome!". Especially the calm moments stand out when songs like Waterfalls of Agharta start to play. And I do remember these moments and connect them to the songs.

The real problem here is similar to the "we wanted a 2D Metroidvania instead!"-arguments. You want the catchy, upbeat songs. But those would only fit to a very different game.
