Post your gaming fears!

in·san·i·ty
(n.) \in-ˈsa-nə-tē\
  1. A deranged state of the mind; extreme folly or unreasonableness
  2. Doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result
  3. Still believing, in 2014, that Steam is, in any way, in danger of going under

All because Steam has an extremely low probability of going under, doesn't discount the fact that the thought generally scares some people.

Steam shut down. All purchases not downloaded lost forever.

meh
cracks, and the community will save the mp for many of the games with projects like WON2

Worse would be:
Gabe dies (or just quits) and Valve proudly announces that they are taking the company public!

I'd much rather see steam just go under than have that happen

Zero Escape 3 is cancelled and Kotaro Uchikoshi is fired from Spike.

The next King of Fighters game is mobile pay to win/pachislot

Platinum Games going bankrupt and being bought by EA

All Wii U/Vita support from respective companies being completely dropped

The next generation becomes completely enthralled in mobile free to play "games" and handhelds die in 10 years

Games as a service.

Every publisher starts doing the "EA Access" thing.

Decline of consoles and rise of mobile gaming.

The Last Guardian being released and being crap.

Having my consoles stolen.

And then EA buys a majority stake!

Borderlands 3 sucks just having general bad game decisions, has in your face micro transactions, or is an MMO.

Next Elder Scrolls takes all the worst parts of Skyrim to streamline it even more or picks a shitty niche location (like the whole game being a desert or wasteland).

Certain online multiplayer franchises (or games in general) being dumbed down for the masses - thus in part losing their depth that made them worthwhile in the first place.

The demise of Sega in the arcades and home console business, and the proliferation of movie games that you mostly watch instead of play.

I'm living that nightmare. (Embraces Wii U in the middle of the night.)

That wouldn't even be neccesary.
Just them going public would make them beholden to shareholders, change their entire structure and way of doing things and would just turn them into another ea or ubisoft

Yeah but with EA running things they would be way more obnoxious about it

Virtue Last Reward never getting a sequel.

This would pain me greatly as the franchise is fucking good. It would all be for nothing =(

Nintendo goes bye bye, we are left with unscrupulous companies that define themselves by micro transactions, day on/on disc DLC, paywalls, F2P mobile gaming, mandatory online fees for multiplayer, and a fear of risk and innovation...

Please God.... Please.

Short term fears I feel are likely:

Significant visual downgrade of FFXV(E3 2013 build was made on a "high end PC" prior to final dev kits being available/ also a multi-plat title)

Persona 5 gets pushed back to 2015 in Japan/ 2016 North America

KH3 doesn't come out until 2017

Long term fears that I hope are just me being delusional:

The death of Japanese console development.

Game development costs and turnaround times continue to climb alienating most types of games. (we already have experienced this to some degree, but we haven't gotten as bad as the movie industry yet)

My biggest fear is that the annualization of games like COD and AssCreed will cause developers to lose what little creativity they have left, in favor of sequel after sequel, causing a second industry crash.

forgetting to save intermittently if a game doesn't have auto-save

console freezing during crucial moments in game

shitty exclusive games

Nintendo going out of businness

I'll basically roam the lands like the Silent Wanderer with a modded Zapper, teaching the Verb via Snes emulation

Now that I'm working full time I find myself spending significantly less time gaming. Definitely fear that it will drop out of my life for good. Need Destiny to kick start this hobby!

That people will forget how fucking shady Microsoft tried to be at the end of the last gen and the start of the current one.

That people will forget how unwholesome and dishonest of a publisher that EA really is.
