Post your gaming fears!

Final Fantasy Tactics 2 for iOS. F2P. Classes 0.99 each, graphics with that weird embossed look seen in games like FF Dimensions. Really gimmicky mobile gameplay i.e. swipe screen to limit break. Spin a wheel once a day to win a chocobo egg. Raise chocobos on chocobo islands. Wage war with your chocobos against players in real-time online battle.

Speaking of which, why hasn't SE ripped off those dragon-raising iOS games with their own Chocobo Raising game.

Also, every game from your childhood now with this added:

My biggest gaming fear is getting to the very end of a long rpg and finding out my save has been corrupted at which point I hang my head in sorrow and while looking down I realize that my penis is gone.

Losing everything that I'm entitled to. Companies making money. People keeping their jobs. Not getting my way. Microsoft. Sony. Not Nintendo. Slopes especially slippery ones. Buttons. Consumer rights. Gamers thinking for themselves. Games journalism. YouTube personalities.

The word access.

But seriously can you imagine a Nintendo dominated games industry?Fuck.

It is kind of happening now. DLC taken to the extreme, every game has a season pass, content is being cut from game for a later release, gameplay in most games is repetitive, do this, go there, collect that, a shit load of reused assets, developers making the same game but giving it a different name and story. Yea some years ago those were my fears. oh yeah and my final one is people letting all this shit happen and being grateful for it.

Windows dies and stops being the main PC gaming OS.

All the fucking games that would need to be recoded and alot of them probly wouldnt even get done.

I'd cry

My fears with scariest at the top.

1. Everything is Free-to-Play.

2. You can no longer buy physical copies of games. Only licenses or worse, just subscription services or streaming.

3. A way to play a past game is lost forever (I want there anyways to be a way to play DDR with a dance pad).

4. Japan stops releasing Japanese-style games on home consoles.

5. Local multiplayer dies (I have plenty of local multiplayer games to survive on).

6. Nintendo no longer making home console hardware (Consoles as they are now have two at most generations left I'll like Nintendo to stick around as long as possible).

7. There won't be a Metroid on Wii U.

8. Ridley isn't in Smash Brothers 4.
Sakuraaaii!!!

9. Nintendo completely drops Wii U support at the end of 2015 (I'm fine with just a few 2016 releases).

My biggest gaming fear is Nintendo no longer making games or consoles anymore. Always have loved alot of the stuff they release and would be really sad to one day see them not making games anymore :(

It's already happened. The decline of Japan. Some studios are still doing amazing things--Nintendo, Platinum, Atlus, Konami, SE (sometimes) but it seems mobile is what that market wants.

I don't mind mobile per se. I would love more control options, however.

Every publisher selling games in tiny chunks riddled with Microtransactions, F2P elements and gated away publisher subscription fees.

That AA gaming is gonna devolve futher into focus-tested junk with no indiduavl style or substance. Just prettier graphics and cutscenes, no innovate game designs.

That we are gonna be flooded of remasters of the same games over and over again.

We are more than halfway there.

A sudden disability in the hand, like arthritis or losing a finder. I've been so dependent on having working fingers for both games and work that I honestly wouldn't know what I'd do if something happened.

Death of Nintendo.

Death of physical buttons.

Digital only (only because of the unreliable permanence of intangible objects.)

Games becoming DLC & IAP dependent, requiring additional purchases to access the full game.

Things like my games being burned in a fire are unlikely. The aforementioned are all inevitable which is what makes the fear hyperreal.

Microsoft, inspired by the success of Tomb Raider, goes on a crazy buying spree snatching up exclusivity to the best 3rd party games in the industry, thus forcing gamers to buy their inferior hardware or go without.

That my hands and/or eyes are rendered useless by age before getting to catch up on my back log.

That Nintendo never lets Retro make another Prime Game.

That what ever brilliant craziness that Portal 3 would be never happens.

That a single 'unnamed' online shooter game continues to dominate the gaming landscape and undeservedly suck billions out of the industry for all of gaming eternity.

Eh, I think a lot of my fears have already come true to a certain degree/percentage so I care less and less as these things progress.

My main concern at the moment would be "games as a service", people complain at the moment reading what EA/UBI/Activision may have in planning but most of these gamers are already in a subscription based environment where they wont have access to some games anymore when they stop paying so I think this is a bit hypocritical, I don't see how this will not grow stronger and people will just adapt to it like they did with everything else that was once a hot topic on gaming sites like gaf.

-Save file permanently lost
-Lack of physical game releases on console (already dead on the PC)
-Death of single-player games
-That the only games coming out of Japan will either be cellphone games or smut filled waifu sims.

But seriously can you imagine a Nintendo dominated games industry?Fuck.

I have already lived through a Nintendo-dominated industry in the 80's. I would rather have that than go to an industry where the dominant company imposes always-online, games-as-a-service platform, with DLC and microtransactions up the wazoo. It's really a good thing that Microsoft backtracked on their initial plan due to public pressure. Imagine if they succeeded with their vision.

That people will forget how fucking shady Microsoft tried to be at the end of the last gen and the start of the current one.

That people will forget how unwholesome and dishonest of a publisher that EA really is.

You mean like how people forgot how shady Sony was being at the BEGINNING of the last gen?

Corrupted saves.
Gaming goes through a fad wherein escort missions become extremely commonplace.
New special "season pass" that allows you to buy playable content that downloads to your system...BEFORE the actual game comes out.

I'm afraid in the shift in culture that's getting overly sensitive about game themes. Whether or not it leads to actual censorship, teams won't want to tread near "dangerous" topics like sexuality or even some humor out of fears of puffing up various groups.

Oh, I have many:

  • Losing access to digital content on any platform
  • The masses flocking to the Amazon box or something similar, with Sony, Nintendo and MS forced to follow suit or exit the industry completely
  • Japanese developers totally abandoning console support worldwide in favor of mobile
  • Consoles/PC malfunctioning after the warranty has expired
  • Sony, Nintendo and/or MS going full digital
  • Any of the big three coming back with a DRM plan like what was presented at XB1 reveal and the public loving it
  • Reproduction carts totally replacing actual carts in the retro game market
  • Nintendo's QOL program not involving games and timeless franchises left to shrivel up and die
  • The Last Guardian canceled
  • Game industry moves to some kind of subscription model, leaving game ownership out in the cold
  • Not being able to compete in FPS or fighting games online due to slower reflexes as I get older
  • Nintendo's next console is equivalent to 7 Gamecubes duct taped together, as opposed to 5, in the case of the Wii U
  • Retro game collection is lost in a fire

Consoles dying and everything is Android/Iphone gaming...

People catching me fap to lolis.. :O

I actually don't though tbh.. And don't find the appeal to hentai.
